I wish I could give this place no stars honestly. Yesterday I decided to try them out for the first time because coworkers mentioned them. Wish I went somewhere else to eat instead. I ordered the jerk chicken lunch special with a Pepsi. I thought the chicken was ok, but it had a weird after taste. The drop of mac and cheese they gave me was bland as ever, but the yams were ok. Any who I began to have stomach cramps while at work and until I got home yesterday. By 2am I began throwing up and having chronic diarrhea from the food I ate here. Fast forward to today and Im still throwing up green and yellow bile while having continuous diarrhea at the same damn time. If I could I would sue this place for giving me food poisoning, not to mention I missed work today and Im on 90 day probation to where I cant miss no days. This is by far thee worst experience I have ever had eating out somewhere. Also too Tropic Island please leave the red beans and rice to the Creole and southern folks that know how to cook it. Your version of red beans and rice is horrible. And to all of you lovely people from Illinois that continue to eat here may God be with you. In Indiana we have a place called Jerk to Go, if you want real Jerk thats where its at. I dont think Ill be eating from another establishment for a while due to my experience here.

OVERCHARGED!!There are two jerk chicken restaurants in the same zipcode that are far better than this one. I just happened to be in the area a few times. The meal was $9.24 with tax because Id been there before. He told me I owed him ten dollars. When asked him about my total he pretended not to understand then started calling me baby...as IF that was supposed to rectify that you just cheated me out of such a small amount $0.76. If I cant trust you to give me an honest total I cant trust you to cook my food! On top of that this night (as if the food alone isnt mediocre bbq): the rice and peas was watered down, and the chicken was OLD!! Please get it together black businesses! I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone! I called and complained the next day and they said that it was the OWNER THAT CHEATED ME!!

Terrible jerk chicken, the worst I ever had. It was old stale chicken and bread. The sauce was absolutely tasteless. Old dried stale precooked chicken. They only reheated that mess in a mircro wave!!!!! The place needs a heavy cleaning and remodeling. The people didnt practice hand washing and a fifth garbage can was in the kitchen in full sight. Dirty place to eat food from. Mine went in the garbage. People need to be more aware of eating places.

My favorite place for authentic jerk chicken. Ive been patronizing Tropic Island since their humble beginnings on 79th and Vernon in Chicagos South Side (that location has since moved to 79th and St Lawrence) I remember when the Calumet City location opened as a small buffet eatery the buffet is gone but the taste is still the same AWESOME.

I usually dont give bad comments but this by far is the worst restaurant I have ever came across. I called in a order they said would take 30 mins I got there in 45m. They said when I got there just another 15m. So 45 mins later they told me that they were out of what I ordered. I waited for nothing. Never again!

The only reason I go there is because its close to my home. The workers are rude after reading some of the other reviews I have had similar treatment. Im not surprised if the owner was cheating customers. Just because you know how to cook dosnt mean that you can run a business, this place is a prime example.

I should have listened when I read the other reviews (call your order in first).. It takes them a min to get your food to you when you walk in and order your food. It is hard for me to even find Jamaican food Cuz Im a Tx native in town visiting but this place is awesome there oxtails are the bomb!

I have to drive 30 mins to get here but its worth it. I only ordered the jerk chicken white dinner. But its next to home cooking for me. Its smoked but like BBQ without the sauce. Ive had one bad experince but not after that..Its delish!. .Id def order again and again

This isnt real jamaican food! Im jamaican I rarely ever complain about our food, but these people dont know how to season food or cook it right, it has no taste, and no white rice!?? seriously! hou yo agu eat curry goaat wit no white rice?? total disappoinment!

Best takeout jerk chicken you can find. Plantains, greens and sweet potato sides are also good. Wait times are typically longer than fast food joints and if they run out if something youll have to come back another time. Smoking chicken takes time.

The jerk chicken was good, the curry chicken was just ok. I would say order online to avoid the wait, but whatever system they are using seems to NOT give the staff notification of incoming orders, so call first to avoid a wait.

The food is ok its jus the workers. Dont go there if ur on ur way to work cause the cashier will lie about how long it takes to prepare ur food. She will tell u 10 mins. When its really 40 mims.

Food is ok but had better plaintains. Plaintains were somewhat overcooked and the mac and cheese was too soupy. Maybe I came on a not so good day. But all in all the JERK CHICKEN WAS GREAT!!!

Got the jerk chicken lunch. Big portion of rice on the side was tasty, the mac n cheese lacked flavor, candy yams where good, I also felt that the serving of chicken was a bit small.
