A Private User
We recently had to get foodstamps again after my significant other lost his job. He was out that way looking for construction work and he had our card. The card has my name on it not his. He is an authorized user on my case. He has permission to use the benefits and can sign any documents at the DFACS office or go to review appointments for me. Well, Fritzy refused to let him use the card to get something to eat for lunch. I called and spoke with her and she said she would have to speak with someone from EBT because they will lose thier license if they allowed him to use it. "It is for our protection" she said. Well, he has my PIN so he could not have stolen the card, This is the only place that has not allowed him to use it. I think she was just trying to give him a hard time. She only knew that the card was not in his name because it would not scan there and they had to type the number in. Now, he is on my file as a recipient of foodstamps on our card so it is unfair for them to make him go without lunch that day. They said they had to go for a seminar to accept the cards and were told not to allow anyone without their name on the card to use one. This is not accurate. The DFACS office was confused by this and said that as long as he had the pin they could not refuse. I think she should recheck her information. If someone stole the card the are most likely not going to know the pin and if they do then I must have told them the pin at some point. I have never had a problem with this before. We only have one car and he uses it on the way home to get groceries for our children because we do not have the gas for me to get back out after he gets home to make a trip to the grocery store. How can they refuse. For all they know I am disabled and have to send someone else in the household to get my food. They are rediculous and need to be straigtened out. The thing is that he has been going to this store his whole life. I think they were having a bad day and a really bad lapse in judgement. Hopefully, we will not need benefits soon and wont have to put up with people judging us because we do. They should not be allowed to accept EBT from anyone when they are not educated enough on the policy and procedure. Yes, I know that someone can give the card and pin to a drug dealer and they can go and use it but if she thought that was the case she should have reported him and not refused him. I can send someone to get groceries for me if I need to and they have no right to refuse. I was told when I got the card to be careful who I share the pin with and that my significant other and the father of my kids could use it as long as he knows the pin. They need to go to another seminar an recheck the rules. I guarantee they will learn that they were in the wrong.
