My friend and I visited Masala for our first time last night (Friday, May 5, 2017). The food was good, but the service was poor. It was a busy Friday night, and more than half of the tables were full, yet there were just two people that we saw working the floor. There were people cooking in the kitchen, but the service staff was an Indian man and an Indian woman who ignored us for the first 5 minutes we were there, and then the lady angrily took our order. We have no idea what we did to deserve such a poor attitude from the man and the woman, but they both continued to give us dirty looks (the "evil eye") while we were waiting on our food. We waited over 30 minutes for our food to arrive, and when I asked a question about an ingredient in the entree, she rolled her eyes before and after answering "cinnamon," and then walking off. Neither my friend nor I left a tip, as service was poor and the dirty looks from the service staff was unacceptable. The food was good, but we are unlikely to return to Masala due to the poor service.

First and last visit, Valentines Day after church on Sunday morning, just my husband and I (thirty-something business people, no kids). Buffet food was of decent quality, but nothing special. Desserts were limited. We ordered waters and Marsala tea (chi tea) and were advised that, no, tea is on the buffet, so we werent served at the table. We were seated less than 45 minutes in total and went to the buffet only twice each. We were quietly talking for less than 5 minutes after finishing the meal and were approached by the head host who asked for a small favor...others are waiting for a booth. There were at least 10 other open tables and only one family of three waiting to be sat. We didnt make a scene, simply arose from our chairs and walked out. This was an inappropriate way to handle the situation and we wont be back to this restaurant. Weve always had great experiences at Fifth Element or India House on Baymeadows Road and will return to those establishments.

I was travelling through the area and this restuarant smelt great from the parking lot. When I went inside, the service seemed ok. We were however then left for about 15 minutes before getting drink orders taken at which point we ordered as well. My samosas were flavorless, tasted like boiled potatoes fried in pastry. I then had a Jalfrezzi which tasted like it was made with italian spaghetti sauce. To add insult to an already bad curry, the rice was plain long grain boiled rice, not basmatti, no mustard seeds, cloves or cardamons. I was then told this is real Indian food by the Indian server. This was by far the worst Indian food I have ever eaten.I consider myself to be a fairly good judge of Indian food, having eaten it in India, the UK and the US as well as cooking it myself on an almost weekly basis. Next time Im in the area, i will avoid this place like the plague.

We completely disagree with the comment below When we read this below hostile review by Mary, one thing became apparent: We are not sure of any guest where we served food with that kind of spices at all. The reviewer hadnt even mentioned the Item name which is very basic information for the restaurant food before she wrote about it. The entire review is opinionated and hostile; it attacks the reputation of the Restaurant at every chance. Please consider this review as suspect and question the motives behind its publication. We can take a bad review, but not like this. Even the worst reviews that we have received commend our efforts . The majority of our guests love our gorgeous food. This review might keep new guests from ever trying our food they would enjoy.

This is the best Indian food in jax for sure. The service is amazing! The waitress always remembers to bring me extra ice, I didnt have to ask after the first time she just remembered and has ever since. The food is consistent and full of flavor. Its fresh and usually busy but not overly crowded so the food has a fast turn over rate and doesnt sit on the buffet for a long time like some local places. I dont think there is a better Indian buffet in Jacksonville Bc while the other restaurants offer 20 ok things this buffet offers ten AMAZING things. Id much rather quality fresh food then tons of just ok options that I could make just as easily at home.

7 months ago i wrote this comment and game them 4 stars. "Great food and service. Would recommend!!!". Since then my family and I have eaten there at least 4 times and I stand by my original comment. The reason for me now changing it to a one star is because yesterday my wife wanted to place an order of chicken tikka masala and asked the gentlemen that answered the phone a couple of questions. Long story short he told my wife "stop waisting my time because we are very busy". What a shame because we like the food. Neat less to say well have to find another restaurant with good tikka masala since we will NOT BE RETURNING.

The marinated Jumbo shrimp baked in a clay oven for is absolutely my favorite dish (maybe anywhere)!! The quality, taste, size, and the amount of shrimp you get is a bargain… “So much so” that I thought it was important enough to write a review! My wife and I dine here about once a month and she loves this place just as much as I do... She always gets the chicken Tikka Masala (Indian spicey of course). We’ve been to several other Indian restaurants across the country and no other establishment has come close to this place! This restaurant is always on our short list of places to eat… We highly recommend it :-)

Weve been to most of the Indian restaurants in Jacksonville, and while others may stand out for a certain dish, I think Masala is the best all-around. We live about 45 min. away and try to get there at least once a month, and have done so since they opened. The buffet is extensive, and a great way to try new dishes. Particular standouts on the dinner menu include the Kashmiri Biryani, Shrimp Masala, Chili Paneer (appetizer) and the Mutter Paneer. Service can occasionally be a little slow, but thats the exception. I have recommended this restaurant several times and have brought family and friends there too.

My wife and I have eaten Indian food for 30 years, had it prepared for us by Indian friends, and we lived in New Jersey where there is an abundance of Indian restuarant choices. Masala is as good, even better than anything weve had before. We had the lunch buffet which has an unusually high number of items. We tried them all and all the items were high quality in any food category you would care to measure. The staff are very friendly and attentive as well! The person who said that the food was watery and the naan was bad, was either on bad drugs or unfamiliar with Indian food.

Two stars because I did get a meal and something to drink.... The lunch buffet is just ok. It covers the bases. It was tasty. The chilly reception from the hostess/server will make this a one time trip for me. Never re filled drinks and when we asked for one, we were a complete bother to her. Secondly, the awkward "booths". Whose idea was it to put a mirror right next to each table? Mirrors should be for bathrooms. Also, the tooting of their own horn by having a (decade old?) News article pressed under the clear acrylic on the table is so tacky!!
