I will start by stating I love Indian food and I myself have been a server for years so for me to even write this means something because I always give servers the benefit of the doubt. My friend had a reservation for 18 people. Some of us were early some of us were late and they set the table for 16.. we sat down and there were lunch menus set out with specials when I asked if those were the only menus for the day the server said they didnt have lunch specials and that was the wrong menu then asked us if we wanted to see a dinner menu... which of course Id like to see a dinner menu since it was my first time there... Anywhoo, we ordered our drinks and got them slowly delivered to the table... and started ordering our food. We had 2 people that were still missing and arrived as soon as we ordered. The server then said there would be a problem in the rotation in his list and said it would mess everything up... we continued anyway being patient with him.. some of us got buffet and some of us got dinners. Everything came out at different times. I had to remind my server about my Naan bread and sugar for my tea in the mean time... once we ate the plates piled on the table and another server came by about 20 minutes later asking us if we were done with some plates.... Then came paying... splitting the checks... I know it can be time consuming but splitting off 5 tickets isnt that long... we sat for about 20 minutes again for the checks. Some of us had groupons bought for a birthday occasion which was the celebration. We stated we had groupons and he then said he can only use 1 groupon per table and stated since their system was a certain way he had to split off the person using a Groupon to a different table (therefore I would think we could still use ours since by technicalities we were "seperate tables" )and he then changed his answer to "I cant use the Groupon on a split check" which the Groupon never stated. The one thing that peeved me beyond the horrible service we all got was the gratuity that he added to the checks. NO WHERE ON THE MENU DOES IT SAY THEY CHARGE GRATUITY!!!! He added a 20% gratuity which is un heard of!!!! I told him and he wasnt even apologetic about it. I will never come back to this place. The food was mediocre in comparison to places like Taste of India and the service was the worst service Ive had in over 6 years. Especially for a birthday celebration he ruined it. If I could give it 0 stars I would...

At here for lunch for the first time today. Normally, I eat at Gateway Indian in Longwood, but I happened to discover Shaan yesterday as I drove by their storefront. I saw they do lunch buffets--which my co-worker and I do at Gateway about once a month. I thought it would be worth checking out Shaan since its MUCH closer to our job than Gateway. For lunch today, I placed my order online. When I arrived (about 20 minutes later) I was greeted by a very warm, friendly, and inviting staff. It seemed as if they hadnt noticed they had an online order, though, and apologized. They put my order in immediately and offered me a Mango Lassi while I waited, and also gave me a couple bites of the Gulab Jamun in with my order to apologize for the wait--which was very kind of them, and unexpected. I couldnt have asked for better service, and the food came out quickly enough to where it wasnt much of a bother. I took my food back to my busy desk. The smell of the food was so good, it drove my co-worker to go out to find something to eat. I ordered the garlic naan, and Navratan Korma. The garlic naan was incredible; if you like nice-sized chunks of chopped garlic on your naan, you will not be let down here. The Navratan Korma was also very delicious. Im no expert in Indian food, but I would expect big chunks of cauliflower in my Korma. Cauliflower is one thing I *really* look forward to when ordering Indian, but this was quite literally the only disappointment from my experience. Overall, the food was fantastic, the service was fast, and the staff were exceptionally pleasant and welcoming. After my little lunch "interview" they have definitely passed the test. I will definitely be returning often since its much closer than Gateway, and just about on the same level of good, quality, tasty food. EDIT: Now that Im eating my leftovers, I noticed there *IS* cauliflower in it. Its just cut a lot smaller than what Ive had at other restaurants and is a little overcooked. Im leaving my comment in case management reads this, so they can use it constructively: For vegetarian dishes, having something replace the meat is very important. Cauliflower, when cut larger and cooked so that it is still crisp can replace meat very well. Otherwise, this just seems like a side dish.

Today 7/13/14 we stopped in to try their week-end lunch buffet cost $12.95 pp. This was our first time at the restaurant. We believe this location is 5 mo. new. All the food was tasty, hot and delicious. We especially liked the vegetable samosa appetizer. We also liked the mango chutney and tamarind chutney sauces. For entrees, the cabbage mutter, chicken makhani (butter chicken) and the Tandori chicken were excellent. My husband’s favorite was the channa marsala. I loved the hot Masala tea. Although it wasn’t Chai tea, which I would like to see on the menu, when mixed with cream, it had a similar taste. On their buffet the desserts they offered were rice pudding (my favorite) and gulab jamuns (DH favorite). The rice pudding was made with basmati rice, coconut milk, cashews and raisins. The gulab jamuns was a light pastry (that looked like donut holes) soaked in honey and sugar. They were very delicious (and sweet). Our waiter was polite but not horribly efficient. However, everyone had a good attitude and the chef was very personable and friendly. We would definitely come back and recommend them to anyone. We would rate them an “A”. We would have said an “A+” had our waiter been more attentive. All in all we had a good time and felt that we got our money’s worth.

I just came from having a truly fabulous meal at Shaan Indian Restaraunt!!! I was greeted and seated by owner Brian. We ordered the dinner for two which is a fantastic deal. You get to try a little of everything, which is right up my alley! I was able to get a true picture of the quality of the food. I am a person who likes a little spice but can feel overwhelmed very quickly, they nailed my Chicken Makhani " Butter Chicken" perfectly. I am really picky, so this is saying a lot! The person that I was with likes his Lamb Vindaloo " Indian Hot" and again it was, perfect! To put the cherry on the top, Brian was attentive and charming. I could not have asked for a better place to spend my Friday night. I cant wait until next time. This will be a new regular place to dine for me! Give it a try, you wont regret it!
