I was slightly disappointed by Bouchon, partly because of its hype and partly because of some missteps. Good: - The bread was great. It came warm and had an interesting shape, it was crusty and buttery. Really awesome bread. - The warm asparagus salad was the best thing of the evening. The asparagus was fresh and was packed with flavor. The poached egg and hollandaise added great flavor and texture to the dish. And the tomato confit was a lovely color and flavor addition as well. Not only was I impressed with the creativity of the dish, I also think it was executed well since there were a lot of distinct flavors to balance. Meh, not so impressed: - The special duck gizzard and lobster salad was flavorful but was on the pricier side and was a small portion. - Bone marrow was good but the capers were very acidic and didnt balance well with the bone marrow and very intense savory sauce. - The oxtail ragu sounded amazing in description but was too heavy to enjoy fully. The cut of meat is already rich, and was drowned in a dark heavy full-flavored sauce with mashed potatoes. And when served with bread, it was just too much. The result was me being overstuffed without eating too much. The bone marrow plus oxtail ragu was too heavy. Perhaps it was my poor judgment, but the waiter should have warned me. I wanted to have dessert, but couldnt because I was so full. But then again, none of the desserts enticed me. They were all too classic and nothing interesting jumped out at me. Even so, I still give Bouchon 4 stars because, individually, each dish was still good on its own. But the entire meal added together was a little much.

I should first caveat that I entered this place knee deep in mimosas & wine tasting. That aside, it was a wonderful experience. Food was delicious, service was attentive and quick, portions were generous, and decor was lovely (a nice touch is that the menus are wrapped around the napkins). I ordered a moscow mule to drink, which came in a beautiful copper mug and tasted delicious (I cant say Ive ever had a bad one, though). We started with foie gras, salmon rillettes, and escargot. I was feeling adventurous and tried foie gras and escargot for the first time. I didnt vomit white eating the escargot (the idea makes me want to), so thats a good sign. I wont be having it again, but everyone else loved it. The foie gras, I have to admit, was actually delicious (and that grosses me out too). The salmon was really good--not unbelievable--but really good. It came in a mason jar with a layer of purified butter on top. I got the smoked trout for my main, which was unbelievable. The sauce was perfectly creamy, but not all over everything, and the trout worked really well with the purple and white thin potato slices. The fish was tender and fatty with the perfect hint of smoky flavor to it. The pork came in a beautiful silver platter and got rave reviews from my coworkers who ate it. The last caveat is that we were on a work outing, and food tastes better when its free. I know the bill was high, but give this place a try if money isnt your concern. Overall, it was a great experience and it was delicious.

Yesterday I went to the restaurant to celebrate our last day trip in California and all was going well until we sit at the table to order. My reservation was scheduled for 10 pm and the place was full of guest. So, the problem began at the time we had to choose the wine, we felt a beautiful disregard of our waiter who looked on with indifference face and offered us no better option. We received the food, I ordered "moulies" and my husband order the "steak" frites. The food was spotless and very tasty. But the waiter was In a hurry to take off our plate. We felt that we were not being welcome at that time but why did they made our reservation at that time? Unfortunatly The problems didnt finish as the time we paid The bill. We asked for wifi or Internet because we were far from our hotel "Napa River Inn" and we should have to order a " UBER" car or cab and they were not friendly With us. The barman asked for internet conection and The waiter that was serving us simply said NO, even when we tried to explain our situation. Im really disapointed about the service offered By this renowned restaurant and a high level of excellence.

We loved the place. We came in, party of 6 adults at 5:30 pm. Dinner started off with delicious bread accompanied with butter and white bean spread. For starters we ordered: two different dishes of Foie Gras (goose liver): one could mousse and one warmed chunk of it, both mouth watering. Then we had different salads, 1 onion soup, 1 mushroom soup, all very delicious. For main course we had the famous truffle gnocchi like version - this is in my opinion the flag dish. It came with 5 pieces of the dumplings and great amount of shaved truffle which melted onto the dish, it was like a symphony of colors in the mouth. We also had the special lamb of the day, pot Clay dish of 8 small pieces of lamb ontop of finely shaved potatoes with sauteed onions. It was DELICIOUS. The desserts were delicate orchestra of flavors and textures. Lemon cake and Creme Brule, like nothing else we tasted before. Jenny (hope Im not misspelling her name) was our graceful and talented host, she completed our great experience. The only down side is the level of noise -other than that its a 5 star place.

This is another shocking moment... how could I have possibly not written a review here? This is a place I dream of, nearly, daily.... and we go at lunchttime knowing its hours of gluttony. We order *EVERYTHING* (nearly without hyperbole). Oysters, Seafood... the Charcuterie is amazing. The onion soup is wonderful, and there are times it falls victim to all the other items we want to share at the beginning - the terrine de foie de volaille is amazing - chicken liver mousse with toasted baguette. It is *SO* rich. Just the best - I am no liver fan, at all. This is a must for when we go. The country pate is fantastic, but the rillettes of the fresh and smoked salmon is unbelievable. One of my favorites. Oh... I got the Onion Soup anyway. =) Much of the time we only end up going through hots doeuvres, salads, cheeses, and seafood. I mean, who can blame us. But we enjoy the Croque Madame quite a but, and a side of their remarkable truffle fries never hurt. This is once a year type of event, and we try to make that each day. ha =) CANNOT WAIT to return! =)

Luckily we could get a table after doing an incorrect reservation for another day. The main room was way too loud (I would say insanely loud) so we ended on the small terrasse by not following the recommendation from the owner who was saying we would not like it because it was too sunny. Well, it was pretty nice actually and ... much quieter. They messed up the order by forgetting the wine we ordered and also not respecting the "medium rare" request for my Steak Frites / New York Strip (it was way too red). On the other hand, the "Jarrets d’Agneau Braisés" was nice and we got free desserts for compensating not having our wine... All in all, I would give a "just good" overall rating as it it too much hyped for what you get. The food was "good" but not in the "great" range. I would definitively recommend John Bentley (Redwood City) as a better place to go and with similar pricing, a better quality of service and noise level (because eating some nice food should be done in a quiet ambiance, right?).
