Great food but did service go on vacation for summer? Have loved this place since my first visit and definitely has been a top two of West Seattle but tonight was the first time I went when more than a couple tables were occupied and the service was terrible. Seemed to forget our salad we ordered with drinks (given our hunger and the occasional wait for food there). Thirty minutes later we were still without salad and any additional food ordered. Once they took our order and we asked about the salad, it appeared five to ten minutes later. They did comp us the forgotten salad (a favorite of mine) and the rest of the food came at a normal pace until dessert which was delivered another twenty to thirty minutes after dinner was cleaned up (when the restaurant was basically empty). I was told my tea was coming. Another ten minutes passed, it didnt come. Eventually my un-steeped tea was delivered as my baby was reaching her limit (commendable considering it had been 2.5+ hours since arrival). I can appreciate a leisurely meal but I wont be rushing for a return trip anything too soon.

Cant recommend this restaurant highly enough! The menu changes all the time and everything is always good. The chef has an excellent sense for how to combine sometimes surprising ingredients into really delicious dishes. We often get the scallops because theyre always expertly cooked. Blackboard also does prix fixe menus on special occasions like New Years Eve or Valentines Day, which are reliably delicious. They like it if you make a reservation ahead of time, even if they dont appear to be full. Kind of pricey, but worth it and great for special occasions.

The plates that Jacob comes up with are absolutely wonderful combinations. The menu changes frequently so there is always something new to try. Recent adventures or favorites include Elk with quince bbq sauce, apple salad with manchego and chive, and whole roast suckling pig. Oh and dont forget the bread with brown butter infused with pumpkin seeds.. This is a really nice restaurant that is a bit out of the way, tucked between the Admiral and Alaska junctions on California.

Fine food in a relaxed atmosphere. The Chef here knows his stuff. Good place for family style sharing of plates. Menu changes daily, mostly local ingredients. The cuisine is hard to label but mostly European in technique, but focused on what is fresh and in season. The portions are good and it is not expensive. Excellent for a date, it is classy but not pretentious. A hidden gem in West Seattle.

The dishes we ordered were thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented. The green beans with red & yellow cherry tomatoes were topped with a truffle/walnut vinaigrette and served with avocado whipped cream. The lemongrass skewered lamb was tender and delicious, and the ribs were also perfection. Im planning on making this little restaurant a go-to spot!

Food was excellent, service not so much. I ordered an Old Fashioned and the waiter asked how to prepare it. No bartender at 6:00 PM on a Friday night? My wife and I ordered soup before the meal. Fifteen minutes later the meal arrived, no soup. "Im so sorry," was the response. Thats not good service.

Stopped by on a Wednesday night in December and was informed that children werent welcome after 6pm for some reason. Granted, theres some pretty bad parenting so I do understand, but a blanket ban seems a bit much. Thankfully there some other choices near by. It did smell good from the street.

Great food. Everything is made from scratch. They only make a spacific quantity of each item in the menu so if it is better to go for an ealy dinner. Very good service and atmosphere. Try their gnocchi, they are fantastic. They also have good vegetarian options.

The most amazing constantly changing menu, you never know what good stuff is on it. We always try to get a seat at the bar because not only do we get amazing food but its like we are catching up with one of our long lost friends! And she makes an amazing cocktail!

This place has such an amazing chef. There are always inventive items on the ever-changing blackboard (menu), and youll want to try everything. Share a few items with others for a nice sampling. Everything we had was delicious, and we will definitely go back.

Definitely put yourself in the chefs hands with the tasting menu! For $30 per person we got six courses, all delicious. The pork cheeks were succulent and tangy, and the not on the menu dessert (goat cheese beignet or some such) was outstanding.

This restaurant is amazing. We have never been disappointed. With the menu changes it is like a new restaurant everytime. The service is outstanding and the atmosphere is wonderfully relaxed. I highly recommend Blackboard Bistro.

Some of the best food Ive had anywhere. Go with a group and order as many different things as possible. Orders are served to share, as a series of courses, and youll want to try everything on the menu.

Whenever I need to impress someone I take them here. Local gourmet food that you dont have to drive downtown for plus portions that are generous enough that Ive actually had to take some home!

Small, charming spot with a chef driven foodie menu. Each dish was bold, creative and unique. Plenty of option for non-meat eaters like us. Highly recommended. We will be back.

Had a romantic dinner. The drinks were good and so was the wine. The appetizers were fantastic. We had the Brussel sprouts and the halibut. Both were spectacular.

We had a great meal, but service was a little off because they were short a member of their wait staff. But the quality of the food made up for it.

Quite atmosphere, dark, great for a long dinner. They typically serve family style and stagger it like a course meal.

Liked the food, waitress was very considerate of kids due to food taking a while. Bill was about average for 6 of us.
