Third visit there in 10 years.... The second visit some months ago was an excellent experience, a friend and I had ordered à la carte several plates that really pleased us, the ambiance was great and the service had been done in a good manner. This last and third visit was very disappointing. My husband an I this time followed the Willamette Week suggestion to not order à la carte but to go with the Chefs menu. So we did so and we also decided to go with their wine pairings. So $32 for 3 courses and $28 for the wine pairings, per person. I really felt pressured by having always 2 glasses of wine at the same time to deal with, this is unacceptable to me. One wine at a time please, and coordinate your wine with the course it is suppose to go with. It got all mixed up, and the last course being chicken in sauce and a dry sausage, served with the red wine from Southern France was a sign of lack of seriousness here. Sorry we wont come back!

This is hands down my favorite restaurant in Portland! Its not the most expensive or the cheapest but it is definitely easy to spend a lot of money there as they serve the food so that it can be shared with everyone. I love the ambience, the service, the wine selection, and the constantly rotating out specials of unique and extra tasty food. Ive also had the best Foie Gras of my life at Navarre, I died and went to heaven that night! The only complaint that I have for this restaurant is that their desserts are lack-luster in taste. Which is a shame because they look gorgeous in the glass cases that they are displayed in. Despite this one issue though, I love the place and continue to enjoy its wonderful and unique menu.

I work in Kazakhstan, and this was my last night in the US for some time. My family has lived in this neighborhood for over 30 years, and I wanted to take folks out to a special dinner before I left. I took my son, daughter, brother, and a close friend to Navarre for the Chefs Choice tasting menu. I found the whole experience to be unique. The food was original and a great treat. The wine recommendation was not expensive, but went well with most of the food and our Portland summer weather. I suggest from the tasting menu that we savored this eve - the duck pate, the roasted lamb, the steamed trout, the crab cakes, the yellow bean- corn-and peach salad, and last but not least, the red velvet cake. Bon Appetite.

Took two out-of-towners to Navarre last night and walked away just blown away. Beginning with our cute, charming, young waitress who picked out a tasty French Red for us, all the way to the final Red Velvet cake, the night was wonderful. We ordered the "We Choose" which is 12 small plates hand selected by the kitchen. The dishes included baked broccolini, scalloped potatoes, braised duck, roaster chicken, two types of wonderful salad, two types of olive oil with bread, at some other goodies that rocked our world. If there is one must-order dish in the joint... it is by far... the Red Velvet cake with lemon zest. Holy Heck!!! It was dy-no-mite!!! So good.

A sophisticated and yet, warm and welcoming atmosphere. Our group of four tried ten small plates over dinner. The regular and specials menus catered well to our split group of vegans and omnivores. Everyone loved each dish sampled, with a few standing out above the rest. Namely, the marinated mushrooms on the regular menu and stuffed prunes from the specials menu. Our server was quite helpful in identifying the veg-friendly items, as well as describing a few of the unique wines. She even offered us tastings of three Lebanese wines, which we knew little about. Well definitely be going back, likely with out-of-town guests or for a special occasion.

I wish I came here more often. Navarre is a beautiful little space with walls lined in mason jars full of pickled goodies and European products-- so cute and quaint! We came for brunch, and while the menu was a bit confusing, our waiter was patient and helped us along. The plates ranged from small to large, and everything we ordered came out beautifully. You can see and taste how fresh their produce was (its spilling out of a woven basket at their front counter like a freakin cornucopia). Ill definitely be back again, and again... (PS the owners wife owns the shop Una across Burnside from the restaurant thats definitely worth checking out).

Ive never thought of Navarre as Mediterranean food, but maybe thats because its hard to categorize in general. Everything John and Giovanna serve they make their own, adding beautiful and delicious twists to every dish. The food is best enjoyed family style so youll get to experience as much of it as possible. Try getting out of your comfort zone and ordering something you wouldnt usually order--it will surprise you how much youll enjoy it! The steak cannot be missed, though! Perfect for a romantic dinner for two or a gathering of friends, the setting manifests intimacy and enjoyment.

We had high hopes based on its Willamette Week write-up, but sadly, left as quickly as we could and were disappointed. I get what they are trying to do, but sometimes I think they would do better if they focused more and tried not to be so many things. We samples 6 different small plates and found them all to be bland, greasy, and all disappointing. The wine list is overpriced, not many glasses for under $10. We were so disappointed, we left as quickly as we could and took what was left of our appetites to a familiar place we knew wed be satisfied at.

I live very close to Navarre and have eaten there twice so far. We have enjoyed our meals and our service on both occasions. The wine suggestions were awesome, so much so that we ended up buying a case of wine (of a local Pinot that he carries and is unavailable elsewhere) from the owner. As we ate our meal the owner went to the trouble of calling the man who makes the wine and arranged for it to be dropped off the next day for me to pick up. Thank you! The food was great and well designed and we shall return.

Our second, and not to be the last(!) time here. What a treat! Extraordinary offerings; intelligent and delicious platings; wonderfully gracious and helpful wait staff. Our dinner last evening was truly one of the finest meals Ive ever eaten. I remain in the glow of that wonderful experience, and hope to return soon, and glean some idea of exactly how a particular dish was prepared. Go now; go often. And btw, I am not even a PDX resident, and have no economic interest whatsoever in this establishment.

This is my favorite restaurant. Yet I never feel like Im eating in a restaurant. I feel like Im eating in a diamond poem (sorry....but I dont know how else to say it!). The staff treats us like family. We arent even super regular customers and its not a "good customer service" attitude either. It is deeper than that. This is the real deal. I am having a hard time putting it into words. Okay, the best I can do is this: Navarre is perhaps the most special restaurant Ive ever known...
