Great little neighborhood French restaurant in the SOMA area. We went there for their Bastille Day special menu of a three course meal for $42. With a cocktail and half bottle of Bordeaux the total came to about $150. We had the carpaccio and ravioli to start, the duck confit and lamb shank for the main and creme brulee and almond cake for dessert. The food was fresh, tasty and quite rich, which is what I expect from French food. The restaurant says it is a Basque style of food, but I have never been to the south west of France so I cant tell if it is really authentic, but it does remind me of the great food Ive eaten in Paris. The service was abrupt but polite... again what I remember from Paris, and not too overbearing with quick recommendations on wine and cocktails. Might be on the little expensive side for some, but not out of the ordinary for SF. Would definitely recommend.

Being a European I really appreciate this place for being authentically french feeling. It has a certain je ne sais quoi that comes with having a french owner and staff, and its something you can feel in the service, the way the tables are set up, the really nice wine selection and in the flavors that permeate through the food selection - its just a very frenchy feeling kind of place, and I love that about it. The wine selection as mentioned is lovely and what you would expect from a class french restaurant, the food is what would be considered to be comfort food in France, but prepared with a subtlety that makes it quite the treat. And the ambiance is perfect for a romantic quiet dinner, or just a relaxing night out with good friends.

I wasnt expecting much when I came here but was blown away. The service is very french, and the waitstaff was very knowledgeable and attentive. One nice thing about hte restaurant is that it is pretty quiet in comparison to many similar restaurants. The food was outstanding. Lobster ravioli melted in the mouth and the sauce was perfect. The shrimp appetizer was also out of this world. I took a gamble on a dish I would not normally try the seafood basquaise and found it amazing. The mussels, pan-fried chicken, and ling cod also looked outstanding at other tables. Desserts were good but not great and I didnt think the accompanying vanilla ice cream was strong - I tried the apple tart and the chocolate cake.

Its not often that I leave five stars, but when I do, it has to be as balanced as nice Saint Emilion Bordeaux! Which is exactly what this restaurant has. My goodness, everything from the modest, yet powerful wine list, to the off the charts Lamb Chops. Fringale Restaurant has something for everyone at a discount compared to restaurants in the area. The wait staff and support staff were attentive and friendly, and the food arrived on time with each course exceeding expectations. The intimate, and warm environment set the vibe for one of the best dining experiences my family has had in The City for quite some time. Cheers!

Great neighborhood restaurant! We had dinner here on a night they were celebrating Bastille Day. The restaurant is small and modern. We ordered the special Kir Royale drink which they made dry for us. We both ordered the pri fixe menu...spinach ravioli and carpaccio to start, duck confit and lamb shank for mains, and creme brulee and almond cake for dessert. All dishes were beautifully presented and had great flavors. The carpaccio was so fresh. Everything was elegantly simple. Great service. Love it for a romantic dinner close to home :)

Vive La France. Celebrating Bastille Day in San Francisco as vacation vs. work, work wins this year, French country house has to wait. Took the family out. Its not fancy dinner but Ive heard plenty of good things about it. Its right next to my favorite winter spot in SoMa: Cockscomb, so its easy to find. Especially with the never ending construction, its perfect for a meal when everyone else wants to avoid that street.

i simply love this place, still going strong after all these years. this is the place in town for bistro french with a basque twist. its hard to choose what to have, but dont skip the pommes frites or the frisee salad. even my notoriously hard to please mother enjoyed it. if youre looking for a classic french bistro in san francisco, this is the place.

My husband and I both had dinner here on separate nights within a week of each other and both of us had our credit card numbers stolen. How do we know it happened at Fringale? The fraudulent charges began the next morning. One charge was a the Walgreens that is only 2 blocks from the restaurant. Beware!!! If you go, pay in cash!!!!

Great ambiance and service. I went on a weekday for restaurant week and it got quite busy by 7 pm but the food was served quickly nonetheless. All the dishes were delicious and they had great wine options to accompany the meal. Ill be coming back again for sure!

Great meal and the dessert was awesome. Unfortunately, the owner/managers attitude and the waiters service was severely lacking. They validate the expression excuse my French.... The Wine selection and quality was just as bad and didnt match the food quality.

Classic French Bistro options away from the convention crowd. Easy pre-fix menu offered. Everything, from cocktails to dinner to dessert, perfectly done!! Go hungry as portion is large, otherwise you cannot enjoy dessert. Professional and warm service.

Quaint, cozy, French. Food was delicious. The wine list is not tremendously expansive but you should certainly find something youll enjoy. Good local spot thats been around for many years in the heart of SoMa.

The food was incredible. Nothing truly out of the ordinary for a good French restaurant but with prices in mind I was pretty blown away. It was cooked to perfection. Service was great as well.

Perfect. Perfect. Fresh and not over sauced French-Spanish cuisine. Try the shrimp, frisée or beet salad appetizers. The duck confit, rack of lamb and roasted chicken are all exquisite.

Tasty, beautifully cooked food. Nice wine selection to go with it. Experience is close to what one gets in France, but the service is better. Food can be a little on the salty side.

Great food, wine, and service. The restaurant is small and not well ventilated. Go on a good weather day and youll be fine. Prices are also very reasonable.

French-style food (and service), with an ambiance to match. Great dishes, although certainly pricey in this upscale bistro. Id recommend the tuna burger.
