Absolutely disgusted at what just happened at this establishment. Wait until the end of this review for the dirt icing on the crud cake... We only had a few nights here in Ventura. We went out for a late dinner here at the Lure our last night. First off, while looking directly at my 6 month pregnant wife, the server offers the local wines available. Ill give her the benefit of the doubt as she probably didnt see her baby bump... Ehh, oh well, its all good so we order. Our server disappears... 20 minutes later we get our appetizer. We saw the plate sitting on the counter for 10 of those 20 minutes. As the server brought our plate she let us know the plate was super hot. No actually, it was cold as ice... We finish the artichoke and another 30 minutes go by with no entrees. Again, we notice 2 plates sitting on the counter, this time for about 20 minutes. Were thinking, gosh, I hope those arent ours... Sure enough, thats the order. Heres the worst part... As they were sitting on the counter for those 20 minutes the server swept and scooped up the whole bar area. Hand on brush broom and dust pan sweeping filth, the server sets them aside and walks toward the plates. Were cringing, no, no, no, no... Yes, she did it... Without washing her hands she proceeds to pick the plates up and walk them straight to our table. Absolutely disgusting!!! We got right up and walked right out. We had to eat at Burger King because over an hour went by and all the local restaurants were closed that late... Before heading to this place please think about going to Cafe Fiora next door... We had one of the best meals of our life there the night before.

When first in the Ventura area and asking everyone what restaurants they like, the one that kept coming up was Lure. After eating here, I can see why. As I said when we were there, “I think this is what Red Lobster aspires to be.” That’s pretty much all you need to know about Lure, it’s seafood (slightly chain-ish), with great service and a decent drink selection. We tried: two dozen oysters, charbroiled oysters, cup of the New England clam chowder, Lure crab cakes and grilled fish tacos (what, we were hungry). Oysters: good selection, fresh and tasty. Small demerit for no mignonette sauce, but really, that’s not that big of a deal because these are fresh oysters. Charbroiled Oysters: not covered in breadcrumbs or anything, just pure oyster goodness with butter and garlic. Highly encourage you to check them out. They’re just cooked through and not tough. New England clam chowder: this is a decent enough clam chowder. I think there’s a hint of sage in there, which through me off when I first tried it, but it’s still pretty darn good. Lure crab cakes: these are decent little crab cakes. They’re not jumbo lump or anything, but they have good crab flavor, aren’t too breaded or have too much filler. Grilled fish tacos: nice fish tacos. I enjoy having a not deep fried option on the menu. What I do is get a couple, dump them out and pretend like they’re a salad (it was happy hour). Our server was attentive without being annoying, exactly as you’d like. I can certainly see why all of the locals recommended this place and you won’t be disappointed if you’re itching for some decent seafood.

There was no wait time as we came in. Convinient Parking lot close by with a reserved gated section just for this restaurant. (Dont forget to validate). Hostess was nice. Our server was fantastic. Food came in a timely manner. Food was flavorful not bland. I ordered a Local Halibut$23 and it was perfect!(wasnt impressed with the rice pilaf I would try the clam chowder soup/salad instead) It had nice golden crisp top and the fish was cooked to perfection leaving the inside to fall apart with the fork going in. Cant speak much about hubs shrimp pasta but hes a picky eater and chowed everything down (that says alot). Not overly $$ but not cheap either(because of DT area I suppose) Definately have to give this place a shot. Was happily pleased @ portion servings also. Will not leave hungry for sure! BTW Few beers on tap.wine available, our server mentioned that they use local produce to muddle into ur drinks ie. Local lime/oranges/I even saw levender ect.

Modern atmosphere and vibe . . . great food. Tends to get busy and crowded so its best to go on a weekday. Only one issue, the chef (or one of the cooks- not the server) brought out my food. As soon as he arrived at the table, he laid a HUGE sneeze on us. It was such a big sneeze it made everyone around us stop talking and eating and stare. He turned his head away from my dish, but he couldnt cover his mouth because his hands were full. Anyhow, after that night, I ended up being sick for two weeks (cold & sneezing) which Im sure I got from the guy who brought my food. I was perfectly healthy before I went there, so that was a big bummer. I dont think restaurants should let kitchen staff work when they are sick. It was apparent he wasnt feeling well and he had no business being in the kitchen with the food. The food and concept is great though, especially for corporate types and meetings.

For a West Coast fish house, this place was absolutely on point. The vibe was trendy and abuzz with people crowded around the entrance, at the bar and the length of the oyster bar plus at least a 30 minute wait on a Friday evening at 7pm. My meal started with a House Cab and calamari to share with the table. I then decided to go out on a limb with the Swordfish entrée adding roasted local brussels sprouts and sweet potato fries for sides. The meal came out in a timely manner, our server was incredibly attentive to our needs even with a packed house and the food was cooked and presented perfectly. We were pleasantly surprised with this restaurant find and our dinner experience there!

If you are big fan of flavor, especially garlic and butter, then go for the charbroiled oyster, which are cooked-to-order. However, if you are fan of the natural flavors of oyster, then stick with the raw oyster platters. I prefer this much more to the charbroiled alternative. I would recommend avoiding the ahi tuna cerviche; its a little flat and underwhelming because the tuna doesnt really add to the cerviche. I finished with a clam chowder, which was very rich in chowder flavors (which I liked) but lacked in the clam department

Food is good, but beware. If they are packed (like a 1 hour wait) and you have parked in the "Lure reserved" parking area next door, they got you. You will either suck it up and wait an hour or pay for parking. They will not validate even if they are totally packed. I left to go to Dargans down the street and had a wonderful dinner with my family and feel that was a much better choice. We left "The Lure" feeling liked we just got black mailed in principle. Not a good customer experience.

I was really in between 3 and 4 stars. The place is definitely on the more expensive end of restaurants but they do deliver on their promise, I received a very fresh fish. However, it wasnt seasoned as well as it should have been for a $16 plate, even though those sweet potato fries were killer. That leaves me kind of in the middle. Maybe if you order something else youll like it, but I dont see myself coming back here often, unless its for something fancy.
