Last night the bf and I were craving sushi and chose Ebisu out of the endless list of 4 and 5-Yelp-star restaurants in the Inner Sunset (Funset!). As we passed the better-known Koo and eyed its fancy bar, we starting having second thoughts but trudged on through the blustery crap that was last nights weather. There was a long wait for 8pm on a Tuesday, which we took as a good sign, and went to pick out a movie at Le Video during our wait. We got back at the right time and were seated at the bar. We giggled excitedly as we hungrily read through the massive menu. We ended up ordering three rolls (Boston: my fav, Rainbow: good, #29: ehh, I think we had had too much tempura/shrimp by that point) and KOBE BEEF SASHIMI OMG it was so good. the bf, the former-vegetarian-of-12-years had a moment of doubt but his eyes quickly glazed over in happiness. The chefs were amazingly friendly and offered great recommendations, and we happened to be seated next to a regular of ~20 years named Robert. He decided to order us a round of oysters, which we returned with a round of sake. Soon enough it was an hour past closing and we knew his life story. In conclusion, the magic of Ebisus sushi bar should not be underestimated!

Ebisu has been in the neighborhood long enough that on a Sunday night at 6pm, there is a line of 15 people. Surprisingly, or maybe not surprisingly, Ebisu caters to a non-Japanese crowd. Unless youre into frilly sushi bars that make americanized rolls and fancy fusion-y appetizers, I suggest that you dont go to Ebisu. First, the prices do not justify the quality of food theyre serving. Although they get fresh fish like aji and kanpachi that $10 sushi bars dont get, its a shame what they do to the fish. And I dont think its excusable to get fish mixed up. Case in point: we ordered hamachi belly twice, separately. First time it came looking light pink, and the second time, more white and fatty. Any idiot can tell that they are not the same cut. Not really a mistake any sushi bar should be making. Moreover, their "bluefin" tuna was obviously frozen and defrosted, god knows how many times, or more likely the case, it wasnt bluefin at all. For the kind of money Ebisu is charging, Id rather go to Kazu Sushi and have a more authentic and intimate experience.

I give the food 3 stars, and service 1 star. When I walked into the restaurant the first time, it was 6ish in the evening, there were a few parties waiting outside and inside was all full. At least 3 servers were roaming around empty handed. They saw me & my companion, but "looked" busy and never approached us to greet us. The old woman at the front counter seemed to be directing the servers (maybe the owner?!); but she too ignored us. We took it that they were "really" busy and patiently waited. After about 10 minutes, we were finally acknowledged and was told would have to wait 1 hour for a seat. We ordered take-out and were told it would take about 15 minutes. During our wait time, I observed the old woman working like a sloth. Couldnt help but think that perhaps she should have retired already. Eventually, we got our take-out order after 30 minutes; and that was, asking several times about it. The sushi turned out to be average, & overly priced. Not going back!

I tried this sushi place on a Sunday afternoon. It wasnt very busy, as they were about to close for their break between lunch and dinner. I sat at the sushi bar alone, and the head sushi chef was kind enough to send some edamame my way as an appetizer. I ordered a spicy yellowtail roll and he asked me if I wanted the orange eggs and green onion in it. I wasnt expecting it, but it added to the flavor, so I was glad he suggested it. I then ordered some ahi sashimi. Perhaps it was because the ahi was a little sinewy that the sushi chef put a couple of pieces of white tuna on there as well. The white tuna was tender and buttery. Sometimes ahi can be a little hard to chew, and this was, however Ive been to places where this never happens. Pretty disappointing, because otherwise it was an A+ experience. Chef gave me a beautiful sliced orange for dessert. Waitresses were cute.

A million stars just wouldnt cut it for this place! The sushi is seriously excellent & its incredible how each & every piece just melts in your mouth. We love anything toro & tonight had the salmon & hamachi toro which were out of this world. The albacore toro was sold out by 7pm so we settled for the non toro cut & thank goodness we did as it was amazing too. Other superb standouts tonight: escolar & the scallop. We tried the red clam which was ok but not my favorite as well as the xxx yaki butter hotate. I thought it had a touch too much lemon. We adore this place & we highly recommend sitting at the bar & conversing with the sushi chefs....they are super friendly & have great recommendations!

I love sushi! Everyone knows that. Thats why all my friends take me to their favorite sushi place when I come visit. I havent tried the other sushi places in the area, but Ebisu has to be one of the best in Inner Sunset. Fresh fresh fresh! We ordered the kobe beef sashimi, omekase, deluxe nigiri, Romeo and Juliet roll, and live scallop -- everything was delicious! The best was definitely the scallop they used on top of the Romeo and Juliet roll though. Service wasnt the best, but not bad considering how busy they are -- this tiny place gets packed quick, and the wait can be quite long. But no worries, there are plenty of bars nearby for you to grab a drink while you wait.

My first time at Ebisu was just awesome. First of all, the interior is quite beautiful. I read that the interior design has actually won an award. We had seen a recommendation online to try the seafood salad and "anything with fish and lemon." Well, they were right! The first bite of the seafood salad and I could tell this was going to be an amazing meal. The Dexter Carter roll incorporates thin slices of lemon, my first encounter with lemon in sushi. It was fantastic. I also had the Family Affair because I love spicy rolls. It had a spicy mayo-type sauce which was yummy! Sit at the bar and enjoy the banter with the chefs. Very friendly! Im definitely going back!

I decided to try Ebisu after reading raving reviews online. I was greeted with a 20 minute wait--which was expected. Upon sitting down I immediately noticed the waitress was rushing our party. She asked us three times what we would like to order in the span of about 5 minutes. We eventually ordered and the sushi was good. I had the miso soup, edamame, spicy tuna roll and the Boston roll. I liked all of it. After paying our check the waitress immediately started moving our table to push it together with another--we werent even standing up yet. Overall, I liked the sushi--not the best Ive ever had, but still good--but did feel like I was rushed the entire meal.

Stopped for lunch on a Saturday. Was not busy at 12:30 but was filled within the hour. Had the lobster dynamite appetizer. Very yummy. Also had the rainbow roll and the Arch deluxe roll. Both were amazing. Ordered an Albacore Tuna Nigiri. I liked it, but my girlfriend didnt (she doesnt like a strong fish taste, which the Albacore has). Service was great, food was awesome. Im not a sushi snob, but I thought the quality and price was right. Interesting thing, the waitress would not accept our tip. I dont know why, she said we were too nice and personable. We left it on the charge bill. Overall excellent lunch. Highly recommend.
