Misled by the South Sound 2012. The only thing worse than the food was the service from Hannah. We should have known it wasnt going to be good when the host in a denim jacket with candy bars in his pocket seated us. He didnt even fit the part of host. Then our waitress doesnt even like sushi or Japanese beer. She recommended the fried sushi. What? She described all the beers as the same, like Coors Light, and that she is an IPA girl. We came for sushi. She wouldnt recommend unagi because its chewy. The waitress clearly has no appreciation for Japanese food nor for customers who actually do. We were clearly a bother to our waitress, she also forgot to bring our soup, we never got our tea. We asked for another set of chop sticks and never received them. We did ask for a to-go box for my daughters $3 dried chicken that cost $14.95. The to-go box never arrived which was just as well since it wasnt worth eating. Our experience ended with "Do you want a scoop of ice cream or do you just want to go?" " Well just go thank-you." Then Hannah comes back with a fried oyster from the chef. The whole experience was from the Twilight Zone.

Probably the worst service and almost worst sushi weve had in a long time. Took 15 minutes after being seated before we had drinks and a menu. Took 25 more minutes to bring out two california rolls and an assorted sushi platter, and there was only two other tables with customers at the time. The california rolls tasted fine but looked like they were trying to use the worlds smallest roe on top with the least amount as possible. The sushi platter looked fine but didnt taste right, found a hair on one of the rolls. Half way through our meal a busboy was behind the counter grabbing the floor mats and shaking them and tamping them on the ground right behind the counter, couldnt believe my eyes, almost left at that point. 20 minutes later brought out the miso soup to go with the sushi platter but never brought a spoon to eat it with. Basically, just unbelievably bad service tonight and not so good food either. Bordering on disgusting in fact, wont be back.

Rey and Juan are not only amazing chefs but they really take the time to engage with each customer. They take interest in knowing their customers and provide a very professional environment. They have customized sushi rolls for me and have really put detail in their work. Both Rey and Juan have assisted in giving me knowledge upon each different roll providing suggestions on what I would like to order. Each dish is prepared to perfection and the taste is like no other. I love sushi and have been to several sushi locations but none compare to Fujiya Japanese Restaurant. They are one of a kind and the best sushi restaurant to visit in the northwest. I am a frequent customer and would highly recommend this place!

I really wanted to like this place but to be honest it didnt impress me. I had been craving ramen noodles for a while and this popped up as a good rating place overall. But we waited for almost an hour to be seated and to top it off the ramen was not good at all. The flavors are strong but has no seasoning what so ever, I poured soy sauce in hopes of making it better but it didnt even help, I almost poured half a bottle lol. I was so disappointed! The dumplings were bomb, I do have to say that but other than that, nope. ://

Its so nice to know some things never change, I used to go all the time when I lived there in the late 90s. I never miss a chance to go back in when I come down to visit now. Great food, and awesome service, I can always count on a "long time no see" greeting from Mr. Endo. He always remembers me and asks me about my mom. Great sushi standards and some fun new rolls also the hot food is wonderful if you have any non sushi eaters in your group. Start going in and in no time youll feel like one of the family. Love this place!

The customer service was excellent (Thank you Yuri and the Sushi Chefs), the food was delicious and reminded me of eating ramen in Japan as a child - good, authentic flavors, chewy noodles, nicely done. The shiso leaf wrapped spicy tuna tempura is one of the best appetizers Ive ever had, I will even try to make them myself at home! I rarely write reviews unless I find a particular experience to be exceptional and I could hardly wait to post this. Truly a great restaurant.

Ive been coming into Fujiya for many years now. I love the food and the people here. Theyre always corteous and the food is always good. If youre sitting at the bar Juan is always willing to to engage you in banter as he produces awesome works of art. I especially recommend the Jalepeno Nigiri, even if you dont like spicy things. Its worth it and unless youre even more of a heat wimp than me youll survive it :D

I have been here several times and the food has always been delicious. The fish is fresh with no "fishy" odors. The rolls are all well made, my favorite being the Miami roll. The staff get 5 stars from me. Everything from the preparation to the service is excellent. The prices are more than reasonable, for sushi. This is the best value play for sushi with Manecki in Seattle giving Fujiya value competition.

I have been going to Fujiya for many many years. Endo knows my tastes very well and caters to me above and beyond the menu selections. He does this with all his clients. His food is always excellent! His staff are very professional, friendly, and courteous. The atmosphere is fun and lively. It would be a rare day that the food and service at Fujiya would be anything less than a five-star rating!

Never even made it in. We got to the restaurant at 5 minutes before they were supposed to open. we stood outside, watching the staff move very very casually around the restaurant, occasionally looking up at the three people standing outside. By 5 minutes after the hour, wed had enough and left. The lack of regard for us waiting outside, in the rain, tells me all I need to know about this place.

ONE HUNDRED PERCENT AUTHENTIC JAPANESE CUISINE. I just came here for my birthday and had the makisushi and sushi plates with my husband. He is Japanese and we both know Japan and have been there many times. This is the real deal. The pieces of raw salmon, tuna, etc were phenomenal and huge! Cant believe it. Thank you for a great birthday lunch! Dillon Stenberg

Who would have guessed that Tacomas best sushi would be made by a chef from Mexico? Juan is excellent at his craft and the staff are courteous and skilled. The Ikura (salmon roe) and Fatty Tuna are particular favorites. Tucked away in downtown Tacoma is a hidden gem of excellent sushi. Sit at the bar and ask for the chefs recommendation for a great experience.

Amazing sushi! Seriously the best sushi I have ever had. Really nice staff. Sit at the bar and tip the chef, he may give you a taste of other dishes for free and its fun to watch him work. The sake selection is excellent. The price seems kind of high at first, but you get more than what you paid for. The quality of the sushi is very high.
