Hello, I am a resident of Gig Harbor, and have been to Mizu a couple times and loved it. The food is great, the chefs are great, and usually the waiters are great. Yesterday, Saturday October 3rd, I ate at Mizu under the reservation at 5:30 for our Homecoming Dance dinner. I wanted to say a few things about our experience, which was overall fantastic, but there was definitely some areas needed for improvement. We arrived at 5:20 for our 5:30 reservations, and were seated immediately which is perfect. As soon as we sat down, our waitress, who was also the hostess at that time, told us, "We have another big group right after you, so we are going to try to move fast." Not the best start to a dinner. As we began to review the menu, she gave us between 5-7 minutes to make our decision on drinks and food when it was very clear we were just trying to enjoy the company of each other on our Homecoming evening. I completely understand how busy it is for all Gig Harbor restaurants on Homecoming evenings, but our reservations were made at least 3-4 weeks in advance to the evening, so it was no surprise we were a large group and it was also no surprise when we were coming. Everyone in our group, besides me, was a first time customer to Mizu. Much of us didnt know what we were ordering, didnt know what was good, didnt know what the chef would cook in front of you and what would be cooked in the back, so naturally we had questions. Yet when we asked them, our waitress gave short, unhelpful responses and basically told us just to "try something". Then when we began to order our meal, someone in our group wanted to order the Pink Floyd roll and the waitress, who once again was also the hostess who seated us, told her "Dont order that, it takes a long time to make." Frankly that is just being rude. Our money is just as green as the next group waiting in the lobby. This was my last Homecoming, I am a senior in High School this year and I will never experience a homecoming again because I will be graduating and really, I was a little disappointed with how we were treated. The night was not all bad, our chef, whose name I do not know, was wonderful. He was a great man, who was fun, and exciting, and entertained us the whole time, not to mention the food was amazing. But in total, we were probably at Mizu for less than an hour because we were so rushed. And when we did leave, there was an empty table for the next group behind us, and only one group waiting in the lobby. I dont believe it was fair for how we were treated. Homecoming is a special night for everyone, and sometimes it is just nice to sit down and enjoy a moment. Especially for an event that, after that night, will be gone forever. I am not asking for a refund, or a complementary meal, or anything frivolous like that. I am simply stating how our evening went, and how we were treated. Our chef was a wonderful, enthusiastic person. Yet, our waitress was below average for any restaurants standards.

Tonight was the LAST time I will visit Mizu in Gig Harbor. The hostess/waitress continually got our orders wrong. She brought 4 bowls of soup for a table of 8 people. When I asked if the rest of us could get soup, she seemed surprised and asked, "You didnt get soup?" I wanted to point out that the lack of soup bowls in front of us would suggest that we did not. My soup finally came and it was very weak. It was almost like they ran out of soup and had to add water to make enough for everybody. I ordered double white rice and at dinner I only got a half bowl of rice. I asked about my rice and she said that they were out of white rice. One other customer didnt get any rice and eventually they offered her fried ice. For me, they said that it would be $7.50 for me to get some fried rice. I questioned this tactic, asking if they were seriously going to charge me more because they were out of rice. The nice man cooking told her to just substitute the rice for me, but at the end of the night, they still charged me for it. If they had just told me at the start of dinner that they were out of rice, I would have gone elsewhere (and no, this was not late at night. We were seated at 6:45 pm) The yum-yum sauce tasted like straight mayonnaise and was not good. This used to be an amazing place to eat, but no more.

Went for a family members birthday party. My gf and I wanted to order sushi while everyone else got habachi. Apparently that was a little too complicated for our server who brought out the sushi a significant time apart from when everyone was being served their food off the habachi. We saw our server twice the entire dining experience and were constantly out of water and had to wave her down to get chopsticks for our sushi. At the end we mentioned to the server her service was unpleasing where she apologized and said it was because they were short staffed. No attempt to remedy our negative experience was made. I will say, however, the food was great and we loved our hibachi chef. Advice to management: People get sick and call in, have a plan when that happens.

Great food and a great show but they need to get their servers to pay better attention. I had to ask for silverware but was offered cop sticks. I got only one drink refill the entire dinner and even had to work to get her attention for a good 10 minutes just to ask for that to happen, at which time I also informed her that four other drinks at the table were empty. Even then she didnt go ask if the others wanted more drinks. Good food and show but for $170 dinner I would like to be taken care of, not just given a plate of food and left alone for the rest of the night. Fix these issues and I will think about fixing my review.

The redeeming value of this place is the entertainment of the cooks while theyre making food on the grills. Other than that they offer poor service and low quality food at super high prices. Both times Ive been there Ive gotten sick, despite staying away from uncooked fish. The fried rice tastes like old dried out rice cooked in msg. The tuna I had last night was so low quality I wont even feed the leftovers to my dog. I like Japanese food but this place is so bad I may just change my mind in full, Ill certainly not be back here.

Food was great and the chef guy was awesome. The lady that seated us kept delaying letting us eat through because we were the only people at the table and she was hoping it would fill up more. It didnt. So thirty minutes after arriving we had the first salad part of the meal. Our meal for 2 adults and 1 kid with only water to drink was $80 before tip though. Personally, Ill stick to Sakuras in Tacoma where it would have been about $30 less, faster, and equally good.
