Sono Bana is the absolute best sushi restaurant in Hamden. If you think Sushi Palace or Kumo is good, dont come here; your pallet likely isnt refined enough to actually appreciate the highly perfected rice nor the fantastically fresh fish. You noobs who wrote poor reviews should have stayed home; this place is too good for you! If you like rolls then I highly recommend the Isobe Maki, Crunch Roll, Rainbow or Rainbow Special Rolls, Tripple Roll, or Sakura Maki. If you prefer sushi (rice with fish laid across the top) then take advantage of the Sushi Set Special (blue piece of paper handed to you in the wooden basket with your oshibori): 10 pieces of sushi and 1 special roll, all of which are fantastic - I have tried them all - or just do it big and get a boat! This is not an all-you-can eat restaurant so bring some money and enjoy yourself. Order in abundance, be a frequent customer, and tip your servers nicely as they work hard to ensure you enjoy your experience here. Tip the chefs as they are consistent and constantly refining their artful craft. Do not bash this place if you only ordered a California Roll and found it to be disappointing - CALIFORNIA ROLLS ARE NOT REAL SUSHI AND YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF FOR ORDERING THIS ROLL. If youre afraid to eat raw fish, dont come here; although their cooked dinner menu is also extraordinary, you should really get some sashimi, sushi and tons of sake. The restaurant is busiest Thursday through Saturday between 6 and 8 oclock, however it is always worth the wait. You know the food must be good if the Yalies are daring to venture down Dixwell to eat here as they rarely leave their natural secluded fantasy-world habitat downtown.

Girlfriend got the TonKatsu which was flipping delicious......and shes japanese so she knows her katsu.....I tasted it and it was supreme........I myself got the Bento Dinner Box which you can choose from a variety of 30-40 different variations, and my friend also got a Bento Variety Dinner Box. EVERYTHING was absolutely salaciously wonderfully tastebud poppingly yummy. The Miso soup however was just average, but besides that, WOW. Best Japanese restaurant in Hamden, CT so far. Not too pricey, 40.00 for three dinners and drinks........Highly Highly recommended.

Weve come here many times and we just love it! The sushi is very fresh and authentic. Their elaborate and beautiful special rolls have converted me, who until a few months ago never touched sushi, into a sushi lover. Their soba and teriyaki chicken is also good, but youre really coming here for the special rolls. The atmosphere is nice, and the waitresses have always been very courteous. Even if you dont like sushi, just give it a try!

Excellent and authentic Japanese food served in a relaxing environment by very friendly staff. The prices are easy on the wallet but the food is nothing less than extraordinary. If you like spicy tuna then try the Isobe Maki; you will love this roll! Big thanks to our server, Gero, who made some excellent suggestions and kept us comfortable the whole time we were there. Well be back soon!

This is a wonderful restaurant-my family and friends have gone here for many years, even before they changed names! Not only is the food delicious with lots to choose from, but the atmosphere is peaceful and you can easily carry on a conversation with out having to shout or strain to hear the others at your table.

This place use to be amazing. Now they give you small cheap pieces of sushi in one of those cheap trays that you get at the mall and charge you the same price. I use to not mind that they were a bit expensive but they were good. might as well find a cheap place now.

Food is good, ordered online. Hidden fees of $4.00 that did not show up until the charge went through, this kind of thing is frustrating...wait time is an hour (for delivery)...makes it difficult to remain loyal to this business.

Good, fresh, tasty sushi. Several different "column A, column B" types of choices so you get a good variety. I specifically tried something crazy-different, I ended up not liking it, but everything else was so good I didnt care.

Ive had a lot of sushi, nothings come close to the freshness and quality of Sono Bana. Worth the 45 minute drive for me. The atmosphere isnt as fancy as some places but the food speaks for itself.

By far the best Japanese place Ive been to. some of the best sushi rolls are the dynamite roll, crunch roll, sweet roll, and tempura maki. I crave their food all he time!

From my experience it really wasnt good. The tempuras were all soggy, the sushi lacked flavour and the shumai were burnt. Go to Wasabi in Milford. Its 100% better

Sushi was awful, literally threw it out. I asked for no mushrooms and yet I got them. They also overcharged me by $9. Never ordering from them again.
