My family just returned from our first trip to Kamei Japanese Restaurant. We had heard the food was excellent and were looking forward to finding a new local place for dinner on those nights when I dont feel like cooking. Much to our shock, a cockroach crawled out from my sons plate of teriyaki chicken...My older son killed the bug with his napkin. We were only a couple of bites into our entrees...my boys hadnt even touched their plates yet. The restaurant was packed and we did not want to make a scene. We quietly asked for our waitress. When she arrived, we QUIETLY explained what had happened, and showed her the dead bug. She asked if my son would like another dinner. We said no, that he had lost his appetite. My older son couldnt bring himself to eat another bite. It was very unappetizing, to say the least! Soon the waitress came with our bill...and was planning on charging us for all 4 dinners! She asked if we would like my sons dinner wrapped up to go. We explained that we did not wish to eat the food, given the bug incident. My husband courteously explained that we did not feel we should pay for the 2 untouched dinners. The waitress said, "Well, I dont know...you will have to talk to my mother about that"...and walked off in a huff. A few minutes later, an older woman (apparently her mother) presented us with our bill. The price for the 2 untouched entrees was removed. If we had owned the restaurant, we would have apologized profusely and comped the entire meal. Needless to say, we will NOT be going back to Kamei. Beware!

Got to check this place out for lunch the other week. We were the only people in there, so that didnt seem like a very good sign. I ordered a couple rolls and my friend ordered a bento box. HUGE portions. I only ate half of each roll and my friend didnt even eat half of his box. My rolls were OK. They tasted fresh but seemed a little heavy. I also ordered the gyoza and they werent bad. Id be willing to go back and try more items here.

Weve only done take out since we live so close but so far have enjoyed the food very much. The restaurant is prompt with our order and has wonderful customer service. We love their sushi and sashimi options and have found every piece to be fresh and properly chilled.

Food here has always been delish! The family that runs this place is always very sweet and they keep the place looking nice and clean. Sometimes on the more expensive side but much cheaper than some other sushi places and the sushi here is just a good!

My family has been coming to Kamei for the last 8 years. It has never disappointed. The sushi is so fresh and delicious. Everything on the menu is good. Its family run, and the owners daughters have been waitressing since they were young.

They have gone above and beyond in service for example on my girlfriends birthday they made us a giant heart shaped sushi roll just for her on them, they knew us by name on our 2nd visit, they ate simply wow!!!

We eat there all the time. One summer we didnt have a kitchen so we basically ate there every night. Great prices and great sushi. My favorite is the beef yakisoba. The beef is thin sliced and tasty.

Family run Japanese restaurant. Good, inexpensive food with nice portions. They have a sushi bar as well, works perfectly if you want to grab lunch/dinner by yourself without waiting for a table.

Really love the classy spin they out on dishes. You arent served on paper boxes. Sit down with table service from friendly staff. Teriyaki sauce and other sauces and dressings made fresh daily.

Unpretentious, great sushi and good prices. Run by a family (I think). Sometimes the daughters are the waiters. A solid place that gets overshadowed by a fancier sushi place in the area.

I usually enjoy this sushi, but the pieces of nigiri sushi have gotten overly thin. For $5 an order I feel the sushi cut should be thicker. Please dont be stingy. Otherwise fine food.

This place is great when you want simple and satisfying Japanese food. Nothing fancy, but you always know what to expect and it is really affordable. Huge portions... Be warned!
