The sign out front said they had special priced sliders. When we got inside and asked for a seat the greeting waitress said we dont have any sloppy Joes here. which was their advertised special, but she quickly asked another employee and confirmed they had enough supplies to serve us on a slow Sunday afternoon. We were seated, then after being seated , by a second employee advised; "this isnt happy hour yet the burgers are at standard cost" Of course, we stayed for the meal, it took over five minutes to be brought our drinks. When the server brought 3 sliders he brought one plate for two guests. Then asked us if we needed a second plate. As for the food, the buns were cold and not properly toasted, meat quality was okay, bbq sauce was sweet and mild semi impressive. The entertainment during our wait and dine was excellent, other than staff, a good amount of the best sports all at audible but reasonable volumes. Though it wasnt super inviting. At 1pm they were less than 1/3 of capacity, but our sever was eagerly over our shoulder only after the 5 minute wait for the drinks. Then to top it all off the tab was $1 more than advertised and the server couldnt wait until we signed the check to try to clean off the table and dropped the pen further inconveniencing us. Not likely to return. Had the food not been decent it would had been simply a one star, customer service is a large part of the experience. $1 more

I love my BBQ. I mostly cook my own ribs influenced by my southern upbringing and I was skeptical about both spending time and money pursuing eateries that boasted big claims about having the best ribs. I recently visited Phils BBQ in Santee and I thought the baby back ribs were both flavorful and tender but were disappointed that their baked beans were not sweet or creamy. I also was surprised that they didnt have BBQ wings or corn bread so I decided to look for a place with more variety without compromising flavor or an inconvenient travel. It has just been too hot so far this summer to BBQ so I found the BBQ House online and my goodness I could not believe how delicious and tender the pork ribs were and the baked beans and mac n cheese is better than homemade. The chicken wings are the bomb. And the BBQ sauce was sweet and tangy. I drove all the way from Santee after work in Friday traffic and would do it again for such a wonderful experience. I cannot wait to share with my friends and co-workers just what delicious food you have.

I have been coming here for MANY years to start. 2 years ago I would of gave 5 stars, but since the renovation things just arent the same. Little things like quality and service have went down. Also you can seat 100 people but your bathroom only holds one at a time? Dont get me wrong the food is still good, but you guys sold out for the money and the business has suffered. And that blonde waitress that does drugs in the bathroom while on the clock... Haha if I noticed that mess of an employee, Im sure many other customers did. I havent seen her recently so I am sure she was fired... I would hope. A+ for the effort guys.

Food was good, service was just terribly slow. Got seated right away, but waited a while to get our drink order. Then after drinks, waited a while to get our food order. Sorry, I dont have exact times. Took another half hour to 45 minutes for food and had to ask for drink refills. Then took a long time to pay. Whats even crazier, is that it is a Thursday and not all the tables were filled. Chicken was good, but kinda cold, due to waiting a while to be served. Sorry for the run on sentences and incorrect grammar, if any. Would like to rate higher, but I have had way better service at Dennys.

Wow...finally a place that I found that is up there with Phils. The BBQ House in OB is some really good food. And talk about filling. The entree selections are just as plentiful as Phils and I would argue just as tasty. The BBQ sauce here at The House is so tasty and the meats (ribs and tip) were basically melting in my mouth. And the beans and the slaw (both essential sides to any good BBQ) were both right on point. Its tough that I now have to go all the way over to OB to get this delicious BBQ but with NO WAITING LINES and really good prices, its worth the trip!

Something bad happened to this place. We ate there tonight like we have many times before and we were really shocked at how bad it was. Ordered, ribs, brisket and sweet potato fries. The meal was inedible. Ribs that usually fall off the bone were tough and it looks like the are not serving baby back any more. The brisket was pot roast not brisket. It was stringy and tough with no sauce. The sweet potato fries were under cooked. I just dont get it. Maybe they had a bad night but something has changed. Dont know if we will go back. It is such a cool place.

Have eaten here twice in the last four months now and plan on coming back for more. The prices here are VERY reasonable and the food is excellent. My favorite thing to eat is the Sampler... which is wings, deep fried Mac and cheese, seasoned fries and sliders (the pulled pork is amazing!). Its one block from the ocean and they offer both indoor and outdoor seating. Inside is a self-serve soda fountain which I definitely prefer as well. Five stars.

Sloppy joe was OK, nothing how I imagined sloppy joes from my own experience with eating sloppy joes in the past.. not your usual sandwich, tasted much more like a pulled pork sandwich. Didnt have traditional sloppy joe seasoning. Fries were great but portion size was small, even for one person. Outdoor seating was nice, service quick. Food.. so-so. If the fry portion had been large enough for a grown adult I would consider coming back.

My family loves this place. My dad and mom like barbeque, and this is their favorite -- Dad says the ribs and pulled pork are better than more well-known places (and hes right, for once). It has been in OB for many years, they are very skilled, and the restaurant is remodeled and very nice inside. Oh yeah, there is outside seating right on Newport a block or so from the beach -- the BBQ house has a lot going for it!

Sorry but if you just want to eat a fast sandwich the BBQ house is overrated. The sauce is not as good as the name "BBQ house" let you think and the prices are to high. The service was not very friendly. Atmosphere is good and for an OB spot it is pretty clean. Summary: if you just look for a quick bit go somewhere else, for some food and beer in the night could it be ok.

AMAZING BBQ! During our week long vacation in OB at the OB Hotel this March we went to the BBQ House twice... Both times were AMAZING! Out of the whole family we tried a ton off of the menu... Cornbread, chips, fries, Bacon & Cheese Sandwich, Coleslaw, Chicken Breasts/Thighs... OMG. Everything was delish and fresh. Definitely a place to try in OB. A hidden gem. :)
