This is one of the best old family style Italian restaurants in Sacramento. . I wish they had more appetizers on the menu but thats not really what is important anyhow plus the deep fried raviolies and calamari are great.. The meals come with everything Bread butter..and its gooood Minastroni..thats the best in town and especially combined with the bread and butter. .mmm Im getting hungry now and I just ate.. Awesome family salad bowl with 3 kinds of dressings on the side for everyone and a Plate of rigatoni pasta.. My suggestions are Veal parmasean Chicken parm Eggplant parm Minastroni soup You wont leave hungry and its not a place where midtown hipsters go.. With that said you get the oppisite of midtown here.. Very affordable Large portions rather than small fancy overpriced young culinary student concoctions.. The bar contains people that like bikes with gears and clothing thats not too tight..In other words regular people and more of an older crowd...even at the busiest times this place is more relaxing than anything downtown..except maybe zeldas if you are in the mood to get drunk and wait for dinner while the staff heckles you...haaa Zeldas is awesome. .. I have been going to this restaurant since I was....well my earliest memory would be 4 or 5 yrs old, and my family before that for many years. We used to order their soup and take it home. Their minestrone is the best I have ever had. When I was little they had another soup too that was a broth with stellini pasta. Tiny stars. Oh so good you just couldnt get enough. My grandma made her own rendition with beef short ribs and whole sweet tomatoes for the broth. I still make it to this day and it is very special because it cooks all day to get that deep rich flavor. Its a labor of love. No frills at this restaurant. It takes my back to my grandmas kitchen table. The heart of the home. I wouldnt want this place to change a thing. Nothing much has changed over the years and thank God for that. Thats its appeal. Excellent, home cooked food. Even the bread is still a Muzio French roll. As for the plastic bowl of soup on the table.....thats exactly what grandma would do. I love it!!!

Why wont they let you give 0 Stars. We went there for my moms birthday dinner. We waited almost 45 minutes after all of our I guess got there before they ordered our food. My brother and his wife didnt like their food and gave it back. The waitress told him they could only comp one. My brother said thats fine just wrap up one of ours she said we already threw it away. So they expected him to pay for a meal he didnt eat and they threw away. They said their policy is if you eat any of it you pay for it. My brother asked how do you know you dont like it if you dont try it. The manager or owner came in it was super rude and condescending didnt have all the facts it kept telling as they have been open for 90 years. Whatever that means it was a horrible experience and ruined will was supposed a great family experience period almost everybody had issues with their bills and I left my phone sitting right on the table. Dont go here only positive the bartender was awesome.

The four course dinner is incredibly filling. The soup is my favorite part of the meal, it comes in a huge bowl and you can ask for seconds. Salad comes on a small plate, its nothing special. I havent been impressed by any of the pasta entrees, but I like some of their daily specials, especially the chicken cacciatore. Comes with a small cup of spumoni ice cream to finish. I think the dinner price is a bit high, but the lunch is just right.

This was one of the worst restaurants I ever been to. The food was terrible overall and the service was even worse than the food, if that was possible. I do admit that the minestrone soup wasnt bad, even if it was served in a big plastic bowl that looked like 20 year old tupperware. Others I know have had similar bad experiences. Still, some people think its great. I dont ask the latter folks for other restaurant recommendations.

Simple, no frills delicious Italian restaurant. Been coming here all my life for the minestrone soup. The cheese ravioli with pesto is my go-to. Veal milenes is also one of their best. Get a salad with your meal too, it comes with 2 slices of salami and a kidney-garbanzo bean mix. After soup and salad, and complementary fench bread youll be taking half your entee home for a snack later.

So bad. Went in last night for dinner and the food was as bad as the service. Our waitress seemed to be unhappy to be working. We all ordered different dishes and everything tasted like it was heated up from being frozen. The only thing that we really enjoyed were our drinks. The owner came off very cold . it is not traditional Italian food. .

I had reservations for 6:00 on a Friday. When we arrived 15 minutes early, they were extremely busy. However we were seated right at 6:00. at a perfect table. The service was great. I really enjoyed being served family style. As busy as it was, we didnt feel rushed. I would recommend this as an authentic Italian restaurant.

Great Service and Really Good Food! Waitresses and Waiters are really awesome and the owners are super nice! Never had a bad meal, I have had almost everything on the menu and was never disappointed. (Burgers are also really good) I recommend this place to everyone who likes a good home cooked meal!

This has been a family favorite for a great many years. It was my husbands aunts favorite restaurant and since she has passed we have taken our family there whenever we are in Sacramento and the love has continued. You get lots of food, definitely your moneys worth.

As always, lovely attentive staff. Terrific homestyle Italian meals. I had Eggplant Parmesan full meal lunch and I was very full! Everything is homemade, home baked, every single day. All sauces, salad dressings, etc. My brother and I had a ball, as usual!

I love this restaurant! The food is very traditional and the atmosphere is more cozy and quaint than flashy. If you want an authentic Italian experience I highly recommend the Espanol. The staff has always been very polite to me as well. Never an issue.

I thought the food was pretty decent..opted out of the ice cream after watching a waiter scrape an un-eaten dish of it back into the freezer. Reeeally wish I would have seen that before I ate.. Btw waiter.. if you can see us we can see you. Gross.

Wonderful service and the lady who serve us was so nice and kind. From the outside you couldnt tell its a restaurant but the inside is nice and quiet. The menu is simple and food is great. Will totally be back.

Took my wife here for her birthday. Three of us had exception meals, so much we had to take some home for under $60.00. We met a fellow there that has been a customer for 60 years if that tells you anything!

Mushy overcooked pasta. They wont cook your pasta al dente upon request. Pesto sauce was not good. They pre-cook the pasta and reheat it in boiling water. Soup, salad and dessert were ok.

Its d bomb. Service is great even though they were packed. Drinks were stiff. Fried raviolis so Damn good. Soup like mama made, and my prime rib end cut the best. Be back next Friday!
