I work very close to the Velvet Grill & Creamery, and Ive very rarely had less than an excellent experience. This restaurant has classic small town charm, an excellent menu, and friendly wait staff. The decor is very nostalgic--something between a country cafe and a 50s diner--but without that too-sleek Red Robin feel. It feels genuine. The menu is a hodgepodge of American favorites, several of them with their own unique twist. This will inevitably disappoint some people--my own father was once annoyed and refused to finish his rocky road ice cream because it was made with walnuts rather than almonds. And another gentlemen reviewing this restaurant ranted for several paragraphs about how he hated the Velvet Creamerys take on Corned Beef Hash. But with very few exceptions, the menu gives very clear descriptions of the entrees and details ways it may differ from traditional preparation--take a look at the menu descriptions for the "Un-Club" and "Un-Reuben." There are two things I always recommend to people whove never dined here: the ice cream and the bread. Both are handmade in-house. Their breads are phenomenal, and compliment the expansive sandwich menu brilliantly. The ice cream is ridiculous--dozens of flavors, several of which are completely original (including my favorite, "Brownie Avalanche," created by one of the waitresses). There are even rotating seasonal flavors. For entrees, if you need a place to start, I recommend the sourdough velvet chicken sandwich or the mega-grilled cheese. Wholesome, delicious classic sandwiches with a slight twist to keep them fresh and vibrant. Ill see you at the Velvet Grill!

My wife and I decided to have breakfast this morning. We had a couple of places in mind but seeing we were close to the Velvet Creamery we decided to eat there. This was a bad mistake. I noticed that on the menu they offered Corned Beef Hash and eggs, one of my favorite breakfast. My order comes and the waitress sits it down in front of me. I asked her if I read the menu wrong and didnt it say Corned Beef Has? She informed me it did say just that. I looked at my plate and told her this was not corned beef hash. It was very thin sliced corned beef, like you would buy at the store sliced deli style and tossed into my hash browns. This was one more thing that upset me, what cook would toss lunch meat into hash browns? She told me this was Velvet Creamery corned beef hash style. Are you kidding me? If you advertise Corned Beef Hash then you had better serve Corned Beef Hash and not some made up crap. This cook needs retraining into how to serve whats on the menu and not just fly by the seat of his or her pants. Next time Ill bring a can of hash to show them what it is suppose to look like and taste like. An experience i never want to have again and so to see i dont the velvet creamery is off my list of places to eat. I took a picture of my plate and was hoping I could include it in my review. If velvet Creamery has a Facebook page look for it there.

Velvet Creamery felt very comfortable, cozy, and looked great. From the outside you wouldnt imagine a diner type of place, but inside its like you stepped into a 80s feeling type of diner. The clothes, the leather seats, and the atmosphere all match that feeling. Their food selection was very wide from Cheeseburgers, Sandwiches & Clubs, Pasta, and more, I had the "Mega Grilled Cheese" and it was phenomenal and so cheesey like the name implies. The single issue is not enough of their amazing french fries come on your plate! I am definitely coming back here to try more, I recommend anyone interested in a new spot to try The Velvet Creamery!

Fantastic food and clean and relaxing atmosphere! We were seated right away and the entire staff was extremely nice. You can easily tell its a well run establishment. Very diner-like in many ways (decor and oldies playing in the background) but sensible too with things like squeeze bottle ketchup instead of glass and tablets for the waitresses so your order is ready very fast. We ordered the Avocado and bacon burger, and the classic cheeseburger, which were both great. Fries and onion rings were also very good. I also ordered a root beer float and it was one of the best Ive ever had, and Ive had many. Overall it was a great experience!!

I had a great experience at Velvet Creamery Restaurant on McHenry Avenue in Modesto, CA. I had the Low Carb Breakfast #2 meal for lunch. I like my eggs sunny side up and it was delicious. The sausages, bacons and fruit cup was the perfect serving size for me and every part of it was very good. The prices are fair. I highly recommend either this location or the Dale Road location (only places I ate) for those who are interested in home-styled meals.

The food is always excellent, the staff is helpful and attentive. They have excellent gluten free options. I particularly enjoy the salmon, chicken, and prawn meals. Their deserts are divine. You can sample any and all ice cream before you make your choice and substitute different ice creams in the specialty deserts. I go back as often as I can for a good, casual, friendly, and not too expensive meal.

Got an overpriced mushroom and swiss double burger that came with a salad. Soon after i got diarrhea. at least it wasnt full blown food poisoning. I wanted to get a scramble but it only came with toast or i could substitute ONE pancake for the toast only and would cost 10.99.....wtf?

The food was great and staff friendly. Only 4 stars because the French Dip Sandwich was more like a slider than a sandwich. It was delicious and came with a large serving of crispy frys, but it really is a tiny sandwich. Will try the burgers next.

Old school, diner type place on the inside. Nothing would ever tell you this was a diner from the outside. Burgers are on point, ice cream is on point and they have a ice cream bar. The service was decent so I definitely will come back to this one.

Great place & great people working here. If you dont finish off you meal with one of their "mini scoops" of fresh home made ice cream, youre missing out of one of the BEST things Modesto had to offer.

Good food. Great selection. Friendly staff. More ice cream selections then I ever imagined. Will split plates and allow substitutions. 60s Diner atmosphere, oldies on the radio. Family friendly.

The fun and friendly staff serve up generous portions of comfort food classics and original specialties. Pro tip: on Sundays, be sure to come before 10 to beat the after-service brunch crowd.
