This is the best Ethiopian restaurant Portland has to offer,i dont even know where to begin with how great this Sengatera is.Being Ethiopian myself i noticed upon moving back to Portland that a lot of the Ethiopian restaurants were more so catering to the american crowd,and didnt even offer kitfo (in my opinion the best dish ethiopia offers).than i came to sengatera not only do they offer it but they have the best lamb tibbs and wot.Yonas and his brother who own the place are the sweetest people ive ever met.they are so nice.i would recommend everyone to come here,when my family comes we always choose Sengatera.tasty delicious food with people who are sweeet and great service! a review from a fellow amahara

My family and I have eaten here several times, and really like it. Its affordable and the staff is friendly and welcoming- a step above a lot of Portland service. They have a one mesab- the traditional wicker table and I havent found another Ethiopian Restaurant that has one (displayed in the window doesnt count). Food is served in a gebeta - the big traditional tray but they put the liquidy stuff in bowls so that you can dump it onto your injera, or not which I think is a nice touch. The Key Wot:was fantastically spiced (we nearly licked the bowl), the Kitfo comes with an amazing homemade cottage cheese and the Ye’abesha Gomen is the best Ive had in Portland. We will definitely be back.

I freaking love ethiopian food and this place is my favorite. Most places kind of Amercanize their food and dont make it spicey at all. These guys add just the right amount! Its spicey enough to make your eyes widen at times but not so much that its painful. I really like the atmosphere, though I could do without the televisions. They host music on Friday and Saturday nights. The guys who run the place are super nice. And did I mention theyre both midgets?

I love this place the service is amazing the food is good. The guys that work there really make us feel welcomed and like family. Oh and the espresso is to die for delicious for all you espresso fans. I always order the lamb platter with ijerra. I think thats how that is spelled... anyway go there you will love them and their food.

Excellent food, good service. Lots of vegetarian offerings. Meat dishes too. Got busy about the time we finished... I think the staff was getting swamped by that... Guess what Im saying is try to go when theyre not crazy busy. As an aside: My digestion is pretty sensitive, I had no trouble at all here.

I fell in love with Ethiopian food when I found it here in Portland, and of course tried EVERY restaurant I could find. Sengatera is the most flavorful and enjoyable experience of them all. Every time I tried a new restaurant, I wished I was at Sengatera instead. You cant beat it.

Delicious, flavorful and delightful. Sengatera was my first experience eating Ethiopian food and I was so amazed. Everything was delicious and very reasonably priced. Atmosphere was laid back and casual and service was friendly and quick. 10/10!

This is the only Ethiopian restaurant Ive tried in Portland (so far) and it was delicious! I ordered the assorted veggie platter and it was delicious. The restaurant was nice and quiet and our waitress was attentive and nice. I recommend!

Excellent food. Id never had Ethiopian food before. Id also never eaten food with my hands in this way. It was kind of interesting and a bit messy. The decor is really nice and warm. The Ethiopian beer was okay. I would return again.
