I heard a lot about the rio grill in carmel and while my wife and I were there on a weekend vacation we decided to try it out. Boy we hated it. First of all, we were given a table by the waiter next to a noisy group of people. Afterwards I had to ask the waiter TWICE to move us until he found an appropriate spot for us even though the restaurant wasnt full. After we ordered the food was not as great as I read online. I ordered the eggplant sandwich with grilled veggies. The veggies were over grilled and it had some weird sauce that tasted like burned out plastic. My wife ordered the pasta salad and got a bland mix of boiled veggies with tiny bit of pasta. She had to push a lot of veggies to the side just to find a few pieces of pasta. I asked her how it is and she replied that it tastes like hospital food. Bottom line - we were very disappointed! We will go back? not in a million years. Weve never been so disappointed from any restaurant before, and we eat out a lot. 1 out 5.

We love the Rio Grill. Whenever we are in Carmel this is one of our go to restaurant. The menu solid across the board, not all of it is uber/ultimate foodie dream food but everything we have had has been good and a few of the items are downright excellent. I would view it as a somewhat upscaled comfort food menu. They make a top notch duck breast, with the fat from the skin rendered just enough to make it crispy but still tender and juicy. This is the kind of place you find locals, the staff gets to know you and you feel welcome. Its a place you can unwind. Its where we like to go when we dont really want to go out but dont really want to cook either. If you are looking for Michelin star, Concours de Elegance, pinkies out dining then Rio Grill really isnt the place. But if you are looking for a welcoming environment with a nice combination of just enough elegance and "Lets have that second bottle of wine" edge then Rio Grill is the place for you.

On vacation with two teenaged girls, stumbled onto Rio Grill and were lucky enough to get Eric as our server. Food was outstanding first night: crispy pork shank, pasta farfalle, smoked chicken, and chicken breast. Dessert...bread pudding and chocolate flan, both excellent. We came back and requested Eric, had an artichoke appy (so good), duck, skirt steak, pasta farfalle and halibut. Dessert bread pudding again. Nice to meet you, Chris. Hold onto Eric as long as you can...he is a gem. Atmosphere Cali casual, very freindly staff, hostess was very apologetic about having us wait 15 minutes when we didnt even have a reservation; clientele seemed mostly locals (always a good sign). Highly recommend Rio Grill.

The atmosphere was upscale funky. The you are here sign with Blue Dog above was a great greeting. The hostess was prompt and polite. The waiter was quick, listened well, and got the orders right on the money. The FOOD was tremendous! The sourdough bread was hot, tender on the inside, crispy and flavorful on the outside. The burger with the works impressed my companion, a former chef. My baby back ribs were the best ribs of my life. So thick and succulent, oh my god, I could only eat three. The onion strings were tasty and fun and messy to eat. The Cactus Nectar cocktail was a delightful change of pace, as was our entire dining experience at the Rio Grill.

Alles TOP!!!

The food was great, the waiter not so much. I got the pork shank my husband got the grass Fed ribeye, the ribeye was way under cooked but still tasted great. The waiter was terrible, he only took our orders never asked to refill drinks, what we thought of the food, or how we were doing and to top it off he asked if we wanted bread and then never came back to our table we finished our plates and moved them to the edge of our table then he finally showed up 15 minutes later. I was very disappointed in the service after spending well over $100 and having such careless waiter.

I came in by chance thinking this was your basic shopping center restaurant where I could get a passable burger or something. I was wrong. Upscale southwestern food, I guess, if I had to classify it. Excellent selection of bottled beers. The crispy pork shank was unique and out of this world, perfect mixed green salad to start, and my waiter was personable and just the right amount of attentive. Great sourdough bread too. Oh, and the banana cake with coconut ice cream will put you under the table, but its worth it.

My half-sister is a trademark lawyer for Coke. We sit down for lunch, I order a Coke, and the waitress tells me that it "will burn your stomach". This was such an unexpected comment, but not unwelcome. Sometimes I wish my sister worked for a company that makes a healthy product. On another occaission, I found myself seated next to one of the Stahl Motors kids. The look on the bartenders face was priceless when I told Mr. Stahl about my experience with his fathers company. Rio Grill is an interesting place.

We visited from Orlando and found this gem online! Food was amazing. Entrees had generous portions even for the kids entrees. We loved the apps, "Candied Swine, Jolly Rancheros" and "Habaneros Deviled eggs"! Husband ordered the Pork Shank & it was the best.. I ordered the Pumkin Salmon and it was full of flavor. Teressa our waitress was great and so was the manger when we arrived.

Tomamos solo un filete y un poco de pasta y pagamos 60 euros. La verdad es que estaba todo riquísimo y la atención fue bastante correcta, pero quizá el precio un poco excesivo...

Located in the Crossroads Mall, it is surprisingly unique and eclectic. The ambiance is fantastic in the bar area, where there are cartoons of all local and visiting celebrities. Happy Hour food in the bar is a must; tiny tacos, quesadillas, fried artichokes and roasted artichoke with red pepper aioli (main menu item). Love this place!

Saw the great reviews and wanted to try it out. Appetizer : empanadas, dont waste your time or stomache. The chicken salad was a good refresher after trying the empanadas. And the dessert was good and very sweet. Was recommended to try the banana cake. Service was nice. Nothing to stand out ish .

A "must" on any trip to the Monterey Peninsula. The food is outstanding and there is always something to please everybody. This was formerly a restaurant of Cindy Paulson of "Mustards" fame in the Napa Valley, and the new owners have followed in her footsteps.

The food is really good! And the service is exceptional! Cool spot to eat if youre in the area. More of a fancy modern version of "TexMex" but even the burgers are good!
