First off... I want to say that I love Over Easy. Weve gone here several times in the past and have always had excellent service. We usually sit at the counter and the people serving us are always nice and cheerful and the food has been excellent. Ive written reviews to this before in the past. Im compelled to write another review, though, because the last few times has been completely sub-par. To start, when you walk in, theres a particular hostess that acts like shes bothered by people coming in and, for whatever reason, she refuses to smile. She mumbles at you and just seems like youre inconveniencing here by simply coming into the restaurant. Other reviewers have mentioned that one of the hostesses doesnt smile. This is probably the same one. I would just blame it on a bad day except that we went 2 days in a row and she acted the same way with 2 different groups - a total of 4 times with 100% consistency. Moving on to the wait staff, theyre average. Out of all the times weve gone there, the people at the bar/counter are always the most welcoming and on point when it comes to orders. The normal servers are neither exceptional nor horrible but just really, really average. In their defense, the last few times weve gone it has been overly busy. Im not sure if theyre just unprepared for that level of business or if theyre overworked. In either case, they get a completely neutral review from me. The most heartbreaking part of the recent downturn, though, has been the food... The spinach loaf is *to die for*. The chicken and waffles are *amazing*. That being said, I dont know if Id trust either of those things based on our last few visits. Most recently, I ordered the Loko Moko (a Hawaiian dish with a hamburger patty on rice topped with eggs). I ordered my eggs over easy (which you think would be a no-brainer as its the namesake of the place) and was horrified to find that there was raw egg white in the eggs. The outside edges of the egg were fine, but the entire area around the yolk was runny on one half and transparent on the other. I made the waiter aware of this and he took the plate away. Someone else brought the plate back (I think it was a manager based on previous interactions) and said "Im sorry about that; We scraped the egg off and gave you a new one, this time over-medium, and some new onions". Im pretty sure that its a cardinal rule of restaurant service that you dont scrape off undercooked food and keep the rest of the food if the undercooked part was on top of it. Prior to that, weve gotten cold pancakes without syrup. Weve gotten home-fries without onions and peppers. Those were all super minor compared to this last one. It seems to me that Over Easy is just getting too busy and too crowded for its own good. They seem to be rushing food out when it gets busy. Their wait staff seem to be miserable because they cant catch a break. This has to be one of the busiest spots in that part of Gilbert (on par with Joes or the Farmhouse) and theyre just not keeping up with the demand. I dont know if its the attitude of the patrons thats causing this or just the inexperience of being so busy, but it makes me reconsider going there in the future. I think most people that go to a place like Over Easy realize that theyre going to have to wait for some good food. Good food takes time. I have an extra few minutes to wait for a cooked over-easy egg. Maybe others dont, but I wish they wouldnt sacrifice the quality of their food on the off chance that itll save a few minutes. More often than not, it wont.

Eating at Over Easy was severely disappointing. The food ordered between myself and my friend consisted of the carmelized banana and pecan brioche french toast and the chicken fried steak meal. Amazingly, the french toast meal tasted like absolutely nothing. I tried sopping the burnt french toast in the minimally drizzled caramel but found no respite from the aforementioned blandness. How could a caramel sauce taste like nothing? Why were there less than 10 thin slices of banana on the french toast? Why where these banana slices halfway to dehydrated banana chips? It was poor at best. My friends chicken fried steak was a mix of substances that resembled hashbrowns, eggs, gravy, and chicken fried steak, but again tasted like the blandest food he had ever had. They dont offer combinations of pancakes and eggs or anything like that, but they will trade your toast and potatoes out for A SINGLE pancake. Wow. Youll take away half of my meal and give me ONE pancake? Amazing. Anyways, after all of my dramatic writing you should take away this: tasteless to bad tasting food, overpriced, and ridiculously disappointing.

Delicious pancakes. Ill give them that. The lemon ricotta pancakes were amazing. Unfortunately super over priced kids drinks. $3 for a milk. $3 for apple juice. The whole kids meal itself was only $3. We were surprised and couldnt figure out how we missed that. Except its no where on the kids menu. No mention of the pricing of kids drinks at all. When we brought it up to the waitress we were told there was nothing she could do it about. Instead she argued about how the meals used to be $6 and include a drink. But they changed it. Which is great and all but no help for anyone coming in during the present. I was surprised there wasnt even an offer to take one of the drinks off or something. The waitress just didnt care at all. We probably wont be back. There are just as good breakfast spots out there. Those lemon ricotta pancakes were good but not that good.

Over Easy is a can’t miss. The service was attentive and friendly but not in a fake, overbearing way. I ordered the Wolf Pack: 2 eggs* any style, bacon & choice of cheese between two layers of hashbrowns. I ended up taking about half of it home. It’s a good amount of food. If you like the typical breakfast foods this plate bundles them all together nicely! Wife had the blueberry pancakes. It is hard to get perspective of their size in the picture but she was able to eat about a quarter of that and ended up with 2 more meals from the left overs. Prices were very reasonable, especially considering the amount of food they serve up. I will choose this place over IHOP or Denny’s any day.

I may be missing it, but I didnt see all the fanfare for this place. Decent service, decent food, 15 minute wait. Nothing to complain about, but nothing I would write home about either. I tried the chicken and waffles for the first time. The review on the menu stated it was rated one of the best. I found the waffle to be the best part as it was light and fluffy. As for the meal itself, again it was just average. Glad I stopped in with the wife to try something new. My search continues for the best breakfast restaurant..

This place is my favorite for breakfast, my kids love the pancakes and so do I even though I always fall for the banana french toast, its delicious. My only complaint would be the hash browns are inconsistent all the time, it seems they cook them on high heat so they come crispy on the outside undercooked inside and a little dry, they need to be cooked in medium-heat with butter so they get moist. I would also like to see the addition of crepes which I love but that is for another day.
