This place gets a ONE star owing to the dumbness of the customer service. I am originally from India and have seen my share of horrible customer service back in my native country and this place reminds me of it ! Wow I was shocked by the absolute imbecility shown by the manager (At least he acts like a manager). I went there twice, and BOTH the times it was like a horrid experience. Maybe I a stickler for good service especially while Im eating since it de-stresses me. I will narrate my experiences and you might think Im making a big issue out of it, but i can only describe them in words and not the expressions and tones of the manager.. 1) The first time I went there was with my girlfriend who had come to visit me since currently we live in different cities. We went there around 6:30 and were surprised to find that the entire place was EMPTY ! Now does that tell something about the place ? We didnt know. We sit down anxiously and begin to gloss over the menu. Meanwhile, the chefs (looked like it was them) and the waiters were in the same room. Now thats OK. But they are constantly chattering in their own language, shouting and laughing which was very very irritating. An imbecile (manager) comes to out table and asks if we were ready. We tell him we need some time. A sincere waiter comes to out table and serves a padadm and some chutney, we tell him, well be ordering a take out dinner. He says OK and still keeps the padam on out table. That was nice. Now the imbecile comes again and confirms if we were not going to eat in the restaurant indeed. When we say YES, he grabs the papadam plate and takes it away ! That was SO insulting ! I was SOOOOOO furious, I wanted to get out ! But my gf insisted we stayed, order and just get the hell out of the place. We got the food and went home dissatisfied. The curry was fine but the rice was very bad, almost stale. I thought MAYBE, I had a bad experience once and should give the place a second change. 2) I went there on a Sunday afternoon for their buffet. This time its NOT empty. I say to myself, this started well. There is no one to greet me or help me find a seat for quite some time. So I go towards the buffet and ask the waiter if I could start eating. He doesnt even look at me and say YES. I grab a plate, fill it with food and grab a nice place near the window. I was alone and felt awkward so i wanted to enjoy some outside view. The imbecile (manager) comes to me when I am JUST about to start my lunch. He asks me and I quote, “How many people”. I say just me. And to my horror he says, and I quote again, “SIT THERE” and he points to a place exactly in the middle. Now I was occupying a place that was meant for four people AND there more than half of the restaurant EMPTY so there was not reason for him to worry. I sit at the table and he makes me get up again and says, “NOT THERE, HERE”. According to him I would be blocking other people walking towards the buffet. There was at least 5 feet wide space behind me to walk !!!!!!!!! I get up again and occupy the other seat. I eat as less and possible and just the hell out of the place. People do yourself a favor. Avoid this place. Maybe this place was better some years back, but it’s a rat hole now.

Unlike that other person I dont go to a buffet to have a conversation with the server/owner. But server was bored when I got there cause the place was empty and only had one filled table, which worried me a little since low traffic usually means bad food. But GOD DAMN, I was really impressed by the chefs taste buds. The two boneless chicken dishes were perfect in sauce thickness, saltiness, chosen spice flavors and the meat was cooked perfectly. The tandoor chicken legs and thighs, perfect; not dry at all. The lamb, just as great!! I will admit, I do not like my food too hot and for me it was good mix of being almost hot to mild, but taste wise, the food was AMAZING. I dont eat much veggie items, but my wife said she loved the saag even though it didnt have paneer in it, but she said it was one of the best saag dish she had tasted. I cant imagine the other items were any worse. But I will end this part with to each his own but for me, 4th Indian buffet Ive tried in the MKE area, and definitely my top 2 contesting for #1. I will definitely be coming back so I hope they get more traffic and stay in business. Hoping my visit was just a fluke that day for traffic. If the chef/restaurant people read this end part, please consider using ground spices in your sweet dish, the khir/rice pudding, Vermicelli dish and the gulab jamuns. Biting into those cardamom seeds when enjoying the sweet dishes was very irritating. Even more so because I love my dessert and was the only part of the meal I couldnt thoroughly enjoy. I really hope my experience wasnt a fluke because I am usually not impressed enough to want to leave a review. Maybe Ill update after my next visit.

I took My father here for dinner as soon as I got off of the plane. The staff was very cold. not welcoming or inviting at all. I already knew what we were going to order my father has never had Indian food so I order what i normally get or make at home. which is lamb biryani and Butter Chicken with Garlic Naan bread. their Naan bread was pretty good, knowing how they like to use spice I asked for our food to be "not spicy" for two reasons my Dads stomach cant handle it after having his pancreas removed, and because I am a baby when it comes to spicy food I can handle a fair amount but Indian food tends to be extremely spicy. So he said okay we will do it medium Im like okay but Nope By the time we got half way though our plate of food my dad was dripping sweat. I am just happy he didnt get sick. but Besides it being spicy it was good not the best I have had but it wasnt the worst either.

We were so impressed with Royal India. The location and decor are unassuming and the waiter was quiet and unintrusive, the music lovely. And the food ... Wow! It was truly delicious and such a mouth-watering treat. We just went for the lunch buffet and it was very reasonable and filled with fresh, authentic, made-from-scratch fare. We usually go to Maharaja and this is just as good, and different. From what we tasted, I think the flavors at Royal India are a little more complex and the food slightly less heavy. I am still thinking about how delicious everything tasted. I was also pleasantly surprised that they charged only a minimal fee for our two small children and seemed at ease that we had brought them. I love a restaurant that loves my kids - and I love that I can expose them to such delicate and beautiful flavors. Wow! Well be back again and again.
