While we have enjoyed our visits to Hess in the past for their simple sandwiches made with good bread & German meats, the coffee and the pastries - our latest visit to the restaurant was disappointing. Service in the dining room was very poor. I thought the servers didnt like us because they kept ignoring our table, such that we didnt buy any pastries...but when we went to check out, 2 groups of senior citizen-regulars were complaining about poor service as well. Hope its better next time!

I have to tell you, there is nothing worse than finding out you are a Celiac and cant eat gluten when you have been raised eating the pretzels from this bakery. I danced ballet above this bakery when I was a child, and we always visited them for candy or rolls after. I ate sandwiches and meats from them for years before I was diagnosed. IF YOU CAN EAT GLUTEN GO! EAT THERE! They are amazing, and their customer service is lovely.

A reasonably well stocked European market deli full of traditional imported cold-cuts cheeses and freshly baked goods. Across the hall from it is a timeless German bakery and dining area. This dine in/ takeout place is good for a simple deli sandwich and cake or confection with coffee or tea. It is worrisome that a majority of the tables house older folks. I hope its cheesecakes are still around in 20 years.

All the baked breads and pretzels are delicious. Price is reasonable. The meats I dont think are made there, but they have a good standard variety of German lunch meats, etc. All the other German groceries are pricey, but remember this is a small operation and not a high quantity chain store. Since I live close by, I go there often. Its also nice to have the Pastry Shop next door.

Something great going on here. They are very traditional though, so dont be asking for Miracle Whip on your sandwich. Its whipped butter or delicious mustard. When requesting mustard on the side, said "we dont really do that". Butter cookies better than Mom used to make (my Mom anyway). Fresh rolls and pretzels in the small shop are party service good.

Ive literally been going to this German bakery my whole life. Its amazing! A birthday isnt a birthday without this cake! The Black Forest cake is my favorite, but you cannot go wrong with any of them. Truly German, not overly sweet or artificially colored like grocery store cakes. They are just light and delightful! They have food, coffee, and pastries.

Awesome pretzels! You can choose meat and cheese from the deli and theyll make it into a sandwich for you. Great place to find a variety of bratwurst, Haribo gummies, German chocolate, and German mixes for sauces, dressings, kaiserschmarrn, etc. Staff is friendly and willing to provide recommendations if youre not sure what you are looking for.

The only authentic German deli in the South Sound area. Fresh home-made pretzels, cheese bread, pumpernickel, rye bread and rolls, INCREDIBLE deli meat and cheese selection. Where else can you get pickled herring, 3 kinds of mortadella, 8 different kinds of salami, Westphalia ham, and more fresh cheese than you can shake a stick at?

Clean, orderly, amazing staff. Great selection of German specialtys. The deli has a great selection of delectable meats that includes deli cuts, smoked and cured meats and sausages. The fresh baked breads are to die for and who doesnt want a delicious fresh baked soft pretzel the size of a childs torso for 4 bucks.

Get your German fix here! Soft pretzels, homemade mustard, sandwiches, boxes of dumpling, gravy mixes, its all here. A regular German grocery store with a in house bread bakery and deli. Across the building is a sweet bakery for cakes and pastries. They are not related or connected. A great local discovery

Absolutely outstanding little German gem with historical significance. Quality goods at quality prices, and a great place to get German ales as well. Wonderful staff that tends to be bilingual as well, which is always convenient.

Best darn pretzel rolls Ive ever tasted. If you like trying new foods (German in this case) you need to give this place a try. The rolls are freshly made each morning and throughout the day as needed. They also make normal rolls.

Great food, friendly, helpful staff, always greet you with a smile. What more could you ask for? Hard to find if you dont know its there, but well worth the effort to find it. A real treasure, worth the drive from Seattle.

The sausages are wonderful and the breads are on point. I havent been to the delicatessen side. A little pricey, but the product is worth it. The staff knows their stuff and questions are answered appreciably.
