Im super bummed about this place. Twice Ive had less than stellar experiences. Heres the skinny: I have friends who love this place. Super regular customers, they use it all the time because of various family allergies. And our daughter has a corn-allergy, and Im dairy-free, so we thought wed give them a go. The first time, I tried to order my daughter a birthday cake. At first, they assured me they could make it corn-free. But when I let them know about corns presence in powdered sugar (sugar, cornstarch), they balked. No problems (even though Whole Foods sells corn-free powdered sugar). So no cake for Maia. Okay, no problem. Bummer, but not enough to rage about. Next though, has put me off from ever attempting to go back. I went out to dinner with my friend (aforementioned regular at B2E), and we planned on dessert and getting some take-home treats from the bakery. It got late, so we scrapped the dessert plans and she just needed to run in and get weekly treats for her elderly, diabetic, and dairy-allergic mother. Her mom happens to have a form of dementia that makes communication difficult. So she went down to the bakery with her mom, and we followed from the restaurant, figuring if we made it in time, we could get dessert for the kids to go. It was close to closing but not quite, maybe 3 or 4 minutes before 9PM. I know, I know, I was going to be that guy, but my kids were really good at the restaurant and I was looking forward to something sweet for them (and me, too!). Anyhow, my friend forgot her purse at the restaurant and I guess asked the staff to keep an eye on her mom while she went up the street (a few blocks) to grab her purse. When we pulled up, there were two women leaving behind my friends mother. Why was she on the street alone? Concerned, I called to her to go back inside the bakery. She didnt really listen, so I got the kids quickly out of the car and tried to shepherd them all into the bakery to wait for my friend. The two women leaving barred the door and said: "Theyre closed, you need to leave." I expressed my frustration and alarm at the staff (calling into the restaurant as these women were barring the door so we werent allowed to enter) that my friends mother was WANDERING IN THE STREET ALONE after apparently being kicked out of the closed bakery. The staff ignored me at first while cleaning out the case, and then one of the girls working said. "Were closed. Im sorry, but that isnt my problem." Wow. I know it isnt her job to watch my friends mom, but she(my friend) is a regular, and spends quite a bit of money there every week. And I gathered from my friend she ahd made arrangements that she could leave her mom there while grabbing her purse (which was subsequently stolen). Since we werent allowed to enter B2E, we went next door to Townshends Tea, where we were warmly received and made to feel totally welcome, although we were clearly not their typical clientele. They even listened while I poured out my stressful story to them. Kudos to Townshends! But Back to Eden will definitely get none of my dough!

We were at the food cart pod over at the corner of SE 28th Place and Division street - having Thai food and micro-brew - when someone from this new food cart owned by Back to Eden Bakery began handing out free cupcakes to anyone who was interested, in order to drum up some business. First of all, he stated that all their cupcakes were both vegan and gluten-free, which is a big plus in my book. But when he pointed out which ones were also soy free, he really had me. My girl friend had a german chocolate cupcake, and mine was a pistachio cupcake with rosewater frosting. It was definitely the most amazing cupcake Ive ever experienced. They went down really nice with kolsch-cider and Cherry Kush ale. If that wasnt enough, before we left he returned to offer us free savory cupcakes for breakfast. I took a garlic herb cupcake, and she took a chocolate root beer one. We both decided we have to give them our business. With the kind of creativity that goes into their wares, they deserve to be wildly successful.

My wife and I (from the mid-valley) visited on 2/13/16, our first visit. When we arrived, the line was nearly out the door! The staff was very friendly and doing all they could to help everyone. Though busy, they took the time to make suggestions and didnt make us feel rushed. We had lunch sharing the 3-bean chili and a tart. I thought both were excellent as did my wife. I wish I could remember with what they topped the chili, but it really made it. We decided to take home a couple of sweets, choosing an amaranth bar (never made it even as far as Woodburn (I almost turned around remembering there was one left in the display case)), a cinnamon roll (made it home but not until morning), and a small (two person) chocolate cake which we managed to save until after dinner the next evening (Valentines Day). I dont think we could be anymore satisfied than we are. We dont make it to Portland often, but when we do you can bet well find our way Back to Eden. Cheers!

What used to be a cute simple place to enjoy coffee and treats with a wonderful staff , has simply turned the other way. I have came here every month , sometimes up to once a week for over 2 years. The old staff is great and so is the current staff. However since expanding , the new staff is not great in a customer service environment. Also, some of our favorite foods are gone. The new food is good, Im just so didsapointed that back to Eden has lost the old charm it had. It no longer feels the same, and also the pricing has soared. I could over look all of it, its just the new staff dont have the same charm like they used to. I miss all the old people over the years. The new expansion ruined what back to Eden used to be. Also, the staff are extreme left wing ANTIFA Nut jobs !

I really love this place. Its one of my Alberta staples. Its a combination of the ambiance of chill hippie friendliness and the willingness to make sure that you get whatever it is youre craving. And there are a lot of surprises to be had here. They have foods, soups, ice cream, baked goods and a entire list of goodies that seem to be ever changing and evolving. In the summer theres a lovely back seating area and in the winter they have a friendly relationship with Townshend Tea (one of my all time favs) next door for both bathroom use as well as table space. The quiche is one of my favorites and pretty much any sweet treat. Take the time to come here more than once, try to hit the off rush hour since its a tiny place with no room for a line but well worth the energy.

Good food, horrible customer service/ manager. I waited over half an hour for smoothies so the manager could train while it was busy. I watched my order get put aside time after time...I would have walked away but I had already paid over $80 for everything... and this was after going into both stores because the old store pretended to not be able to make smoothies, cute. I dont think Ill be going back after this experience. This is just bad customer service. Dont throw away the extra smoothie after making me wait over 30 minutes, or at least throw in a free cupcake. Terrible, terrible customer service, a manager should know better. An apology for the inconvenience is fine if it is 5 minutes late or a small order... this was rude and disrespectful.
