Where do I start with this restaurant? When our party walked in there was NOBODY in this ballroom, maybe 2 tables had people sitting at them. Right there that was a bad sign, no line out the door, then this place cant be good. We had called earlier to switch our reservation from 5:00 to 5:30, I can just see the person on the other side saying "thats no problem" as he looks out at a completely empty restaurant. Now to the meal. There were fruit flies all over the place, flying in drinks and just bothering the whole dining experience. The menu was small, so I ordered something that I frequently get everytime I dine out, Calamari. When it came out it looked like it had been frozen for months and served with Prego pasta sauce which I guess was their best shot at Marinara. NO flavor whats so ever! Dont these people know that when you fry something if you put salt on it immediately after it comes out, that it enhances the flavor??? Oh well, I didnt want to judge on just this one dish so I patiently awaited my Ribeye. Before it came out, the lights dimmed in the restaurant, that was another bad sign. They didnt want us to see how terrible the food looked. My steak arrived and it was placed on a small plate with mashed potatoes and a veggie medley, which were the only sides that were offered. No space, everything cramed on this tiny plate. The steak was as average as a steak can be, Not worth the $25 it cost, I couldve spend an extra $10 and gotten a perfectly cooked filet at Ruth Chris. Over-priced for under achieving food. Another person in our party ordered fried shrimp, which he said tasted "weird". How do you screw up fried shrimp??? The consensus of the group was that the food was not good at all. Now to top it off, during our "dining" experience, there was a wedding going on outside that was going to have their reception inside the same ballroom as the rest of the public diners. Either way, as a public diner, that would have been weird and if I were in the wedding party I would not want to have my reception with a bunch of strangers sitting and eating in the same room. Then I realized what this food reminded me of, below average wedding reception food. Not good, save your $

Let me start by saying I have lived here all my life on Shore Drive. When My Family comes from out of town 3-4 times a year this is where they stay.. Wow. What has happened to the hotel, the rooms & the Tradewinds that used to be known for such great food. There was barely a sole in the hotel, so they could have done a lot better by my Family with the room.. We were a party of 7 (One a toddler & one a baby, well behaved), at the Tradewinds last night. There was one other man in the restaurant besides us. We got there at 5:30 & never got out till close to 8:30. Service very slow. we came when it was light out & left in the dark. SLOW service. Not good with babies.. The food for All 7 services was absolutely horrible. Every one.. Something wrong with everyone. 4 were credited off the bill as it was obvious to everyone it was very bad..& manager gave us Brunch tickets. None of which helps when you just came from a 6 hour drive.. & my other Family locals as well came straight from their jobs.. THIS IS THE TRADEWINDS we are talking about for Heavens sake! So disappointed & embarrassed for my company. The only other man in there sent his food back as well. Under "owner responses", please dont pacify me like all the others who have written a review. Dont waste your time. You ALL obviously see these errors.. Now what you should do is stop pacifying people & get the place back to where it was.. This should never happen there.

Man, oh man, the Tradewinds restaurant! Just mentioning it my taste buds go all crazy. I dont know the chefs name but he must be a magician in the kitchen. I dinned every night during my 4 night stay at Virginia Beach Resort recently, and it was not even a weekend when youd think theyll go all out on having the best service. It was a feast on my plate every night. Well worth the time, money and all that view- MAGNIFICENT. My hostess, the restaurant manager that stopped to ask how we were doing, my servers excellent tableside manners and that unparallelled view of the sunset over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge- OMG. If youre ever down in Virginia Beach, DO make the effort and go do Tradewinds- you wont regret it. Their best kept secret is that every Wednesday night they have their own version of Yo Yo Ma, going by the name of Lewis McGehee, that makes your bones melt along with your taste buds. Im far from a romantic but give me a she-crab soup + a great sunset+ wonderful music and it cant ever spell anything better than Tradewinds restaurant at the Virginia Beach Resort Hotel and Conference Center. If youve never been there youve never seen Virginia Beach at its best.

My husband and I ate here Friday evening, Jan. 23. We were anxious to try this casual elegance restaurant. Our waiter was not impressive, he seemed like he rather be somewhere else. Our dinner was fine, but when I requested Parmesan cheese for my dinner, I received a little paper cup with about 1 teaspoon....I asked again and then received another little paper cup with barely more. There was some sort of sales presentation going on in the corner, as well as 4-5 kids that were running around the tables, screeching. Absolutely no supervision or interaction from a manager to try to keep them under control. We requested a table by the windows, but a child kept running the length of the windows during dinner. We expected better service, as well as an atmosphere to enjoy our casual elegance dinner. Also, some bread at the table would be nice. We were not impressed and do not plan on returning.

First time was a charm but this time was not so good. The first two rooms that we were given absolutely were below our expectations . there was food crumbs in the bed ,hair on the pillow, the pullout sofa bed cushions were very dirty and stained the other rooms were just as bad with no working house phones and no flat screen TV. Room service was at its worst coffee was lukewarm and we order hot chocolate and were chocolate milk instead. I ordered a medium rare steak and eggs breakfast and my steak was rare. Thanks to Mario at the front desk for making things right and saving our vacation stay and Im giving him 5 stars . Thank you Mario.

My daughter and I enjoyed a delicious dinner with you on Friday night and had a great table right near the window. It was nice to watch the sunset and have a beautiful view of the water while we ate. I normally dont take pictures of my food, but my plate presentation looked as good as it tasted. (Ill post a pic on your page) My daughter has already asked me to have dinner at Tradewinds again, so Im sure well see you soon.

They advertise early bird specials and on the bottom it reads served with Salad/Soup and fresh baked rolls! When we went there we were told by the Waiter that is not so. Also the Manager came to our Table and said that needs to be removed from the website! The food it ok, everything is served with Mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables! Management there is really bad, no one knows what is going on!!!
