Along Kirkman Rd in the Universal Studios area, tucked in the back of a shopping plaza is Kim Wu. It is more visible from Kirkman Rd. than the plaza itself. Make no mistake, this is not your regular “Chinese take out joint”. The interior is a step up from the corner Chinese restaurant. There are ample seating with an assortment of traditional Chinese decorations. This restaurant add little touches that takes it over the top. With your take out order there are two little goody bags. There is a bag of fried wonton strips and ‘duck’ sauce. The other bag has soy sauce, 2 tea bags, and fortune cookies. I don’t recall these items being given at any Chinese take out restaurant that I’ve gone to. Do you? General Tsao Chicken – Some restaurants make this dish with bell peppers, others don’t. I gave up trying to figure out if there is a standard recipe. This particular preparation lacked the long chili peppers that adds a distinctive flavor. The chicken was crisp and fried well. The sauce was more acidic than sweet and spicy. Rice was well cooked, but lacked any distinctive flavors. Moo Goo Gai Pan – Tender slivers of chicken sautéed with assorted vegetables in clear sauce. Well cooked with a nice balance of acidity and sweetness. Egg Drop Soup – Thick and flavorful. Chicken Wings – Crisp, lightly seasoned, not too salty. Sometimes it is worth to try and find a place that is not so obvious. This restaurant is one of those places. One may assume that being tucked away will decrease activity. But this place was doing brisk take out and dine in business on my visit. No wonder they have been there this long. I have to try other items. Enjoy!

Fabulous atmosphere, well decorated, clean, peaceful and downright lovely. Love that they had Chinese music playing unlike so many that play Western music. The food was good. Im not picky with Chinese food. As long as it tastes good, Im happy. I had the beef in garlic sauce. The beef was very tender and tasty. It wasnt as spicy as I like it but it was still very good. The white sauce on my husbands dish was excellent. Dessert of a plate of sliced fruit was complimentary. At the end of our meal our waitress brought us scented steamed cloths. The whole meal was great. For me, atmosphere is very important and this place has it in spades! (see: 4 pics posted) Addressing what another wrote about small portions. It makes me think that the reviewer might have been confused as to which restaurant they went to. One dish wouldve been more than plenty for me AND my husband. If youre used to sharing, the portions are perfect. We frequently share the entre so we have room for appetizers. For us, thats fun and more romantic. If youre looking for a great date place or a place to take friends from out of town that has great atmosphere, good food that wont break the bank, and will feel special, go here! Important note: When you first walk in, you go PAST the front entry area into the lovey restaurant area beyond (see the pics: In one pic it looks like a normal small Asian restaurant entry (the kind that does take-out only) which I took as we were walking out. The others are: 2 of the lovely restaurant section beyond and 1 of the front of the building. Youll see what I mean.)

I had very bad experiences in having dinner in this restaurant last night. When I and my teenage daughter arrived at this restaurant, the waitress gave us a single page menu with Chinese characters. I was not sure why she did that. Was it based on I have a Chinese face? I was regarded it as nice fullness anyway. But the later on story is not that nice. We have been waiting for around 40 minutes when we got out appetizer, a Chinese style soup. At that time, there were only 3 other tables. The customers (European face) after us got their food and were treated like "god". That is ok. Later on when I asked "can I got one more rice bowl?" I received a yell kind comment "can you just wait for couple minutes?" The fact is that I never got that bowl. Maybe I should speak Chinese for being understood, I thought. This was proved being a very bad idea. I unluckily received another yell "I do not understand Chinese". Oh my god, as far as now, I am thinking why I was given the Chinese menu. I am very sorry for my daughter had a very unhappy dinner. She came to Orlando with my to participate this years Taekwondo tournament and she has competitions today. The question I have in my mind is that why this restaurant treats their same kind race so bad?

In Orlando on vacation with my family and I passed other places to pick up from here based on the reviews. I was glad I did. Food was incredible especially the curry chicken. I told my daughter that even the rice was good. She did not understand how "rice" could be different until she tried it. The shrimp lo mein had lots of shrimp and flavor. The sesame chicken seemed bland until I realized the sauce had settled to the bottom of the container on the way back to the hotel. Once we stirred it, wow. They even give you a little personal packet with each entree with sauces, fortune cookie, and a tea bag, which was a nice touch. One word of caution. If you are picking up, bring a passenger to jump out while you circle. The parking lot is extremely packed. (We ate at the Mexican restaurant in the center the night before and looked for ten minutes before finding a spot.)

Worst Chinese Ive ever had. Looks like a high end restaurant on the outside but the takeout was extremely salty. At first I thought it was just the egg drop soup, so we stopped eating it. But the rest of the "Happiness" combo was atrocious. The pork fried rice: rice was pretty ok until you bit into smelly pork. Both our entrees were also extremely salty. The egg rolls were hard and I suspect they were the same ones the takeout customer before us had just returned. We were extremely sad to have to throw away $25 worth of food but we just couldnt eat more than a few bites without gagging. The worst part is waiting almost half an hour for the food to be prepared and seeing a happy couple walk out after dining in which makes me suspect theyve either gotten used to crappy Chinese or maybe the restaurant staff just dont care about the quality of the takeout.

After reading all the great reviews, I was pretty excited to go to Kim Wu during our trip to Orlando. The service was good, but the food was well below my expectation not to mention that my husband got allergic reaction to the MSG in their food. As a Chinese born Chinese and came from New York, my expectation might be too high? I ordered fried rice for my 4-year-old son. They brought me fried rice using the yellow rice, which Ive never seen in any Chinese restaurant Ive ever been. My son refused to eat it so they exchanged for white rice fried rice, and didnt charge us for extra, which I apprecited. We also ordered fried squid and sauteed fish. Both didnt taste that great. We left with at least half plates full and didnt even bother to take it with us. They might have great value and good staff, but without great food, I wont go there again.
