Harrison Street Coffee Shop is my absolute favorite place to eat in Richmond. The menu is unpretentious but offers a ton of flavor and freshness to vegetarian and vegan diners. The atmosphere is very casual and cozy. I like to sit upstairs and people-watch, chatting with my husband or with a friend, staying for as long as we like. The people who work here are incredibly friendly and always turn out consistent food, coffee, and desserts. And oh, the sandwiches! Such sandwiches! My favorite is the 420 Club Sub (vegan, please!), which is a toasted sub roll loaded up with strips of tempeh (local, I think) marinated and baked in a delicious smoky, sticky, not-too-sweet sauce, fresh avocado, tomato, sprouts, spring mix, and the most delicious vegan chipotle-lime mayonnaise. If the side of the day is vegan potato salad or vegan mac and cheese, I am in heaven. Other favorites are the TLT (tempeh, lettuce, and tomato), the tempeh reuben (toasty, gooey, complex-tasting!), and the barbeque tofu (perfect texture, amazing, slightly spicy sauce). Breakfast is also great. My favorite is the vegan French toast. Thick, hot slices of sweet, crispy-on-the-outside, soft-on-the-inside, cinnamon-dusted toast with homemade veggie sausage and maple syrup. OMG, yes. The vegan breakfast burritos are also excellent, and you have the option to choose your own burrito ingredients, if you wish. The coffee is spectacular. Its fair-trade, locally-roasted black gold. The baristas make excellent espresso drinks as well, and are able to do so quickly and efficiently. I cant seem to resist Harrison Streets vegan peanut butter cups. I usually wind up buying one every time I come in. The prices are very reasonable for the amount and the quality of the food served. I am perfectly happy paying $8.00 for a lunch here, because I know everything will be fresh, flavorful, and delicious, and I will leave happy. If I had one complaint, it would be that during certain times of the year, their hours are a little erratic. I love them so much, I wish they were open all the time!

I had the falafel burger and some fruit, my husband had the super falafel sub and the vegan french toast. The food was very good and flavorful. I wasnt happy that I asked what type of fruit came in the fruit salad and when asked for no oranges she said there was no way to separate it out but once you receive the fruit salad it is pretty obvious that they cut the fruit individually to place it in the bowl and removing one item should not have been a problem. But otherwise the service was good. The atmosphere is young and trendy which makes sense since it is in a college district. Be advised there is not a true waiter/waitress service here, you clean your own table and order at the front like at a take out spot. I would have given it 5 stars but I cant stand a restaurant that doesnt have a changing station in the restroom or good options for parking. But overall it was a good experience.

My friend recommended we come here after she had been here once before. We were in town for a concert and decided to come up early, from Hampton, to grab brunch here. We ordered the vegan french toast and vegan popeye burrito. Both were INCREDIBLY delicious! The french toast was by far my favorite french toast Ive ever had, not just vegan kind. It was just the perfect size thickness, spongy and not too sweet. The burrito was also really tasty. The "sausage" was seasoned perfect and it had a nice hot sauce in it. I added some extra hot sauce cause I like mine a little more spicy. I am definitely coming back ... in fact we tried to come back after the show and they were closing early for a special event they were hosting :-/ The price is great, the food is better. Definitely recommend coming here when youre in Richmond! Even if youre not vegan.

I visited yesterday for the first time. The service was pretty good. I did feel though at times it was kind of like, "Figure it out for yourself" as far as wondering where things were in the cafe. We ordered vegan cookies, the vegan french toast, home fries, and fruit. The food came out in about 10 minutes. The fries are really good, though the helping is pretty small (beause theyre so good). The french toast is fried. I find it odd and I could really taste the oil more than I could taste anything. I didnt taste any spices, so I was disappointed. I may return and order something else. My boyfriend enjoyed his entire meal. I have a pretty sensitive pallet and I also dont like fried French toast.

So fantastic! Stopped here on our way home from the Womens March in DC. The place is small and kitchy but very clean. Didnt visit the upstairs, but it looks cozy. Black Sabbath on the sound system, at a nice, low, comfy volume. (Never thought Id be describing War Pigs as "comfy"...) Coffee is delicious. If they have the Thai soba noodle side on special, order two because you will want a bucket full. Their breakfast burritos with soysage and vegan cheese are magical, and the regular cheese Zeppelin is a delight. Go. Eat. Be happy.

It has an old school feel and tons of vegetarian & vegan options. It almost feels a little like a small library inside. Upstairs & downstairs seating with 2 small tables outside. The service was fantastic. There are lots of veggie options; they serve breakfast; have coffee options; baked goods & cookies for dessert. Their vegan bacon is delicious. Just FYI, they do not have any real meat.

Im a caveman omnivore, for sure, but find this place a nice escape from mainstream living. The service is fast, but depending on the front person you can get cool guyed. The foods a little pricey but good. Great coffee, though, and the free literature makes it a perfect spot to kill time. If youre a carnivore turn around. Artsy fartsy, scene kid, nerds are most welcome here.

I was a veghead years ago so decided to go there for lunch this week. Most of the reviewers said try the beer battered tofu steak sandwich, I agree. It was incredible!!! I was never a fan of tofu b/c it always taste like soggy bread when I cooked it, but this was great and had lots of flavor.

Vegan or not I highly recommend this place! I eat here every time I come to Richmond. I wish there were more restaurants around like Harrison Street. Going here for breakfast in about 30 minutes, vegan biscuits and gravy is soooo goood :)))

This is one of my very favorite brunch/lunch locations in the world, ever. These guys are absolute tofu artists. They can turn soybeans into anything, I swear. The bbq tofu sandwich and the red lentil burgers are to die for.

Fantastic vegan and vegetarian food. Im an omnivore and this is my go-to lunch spot on campus. Food is so delicious and their daily specials are super good as well. Great staff and great spot to hang out and get coffee too.

I used to love this place in college! They had good coffee and great veggie options. Since then, the service has gone downhill and so has the food. There are much better vegetarian options and coffee houses in Richmond.

Great food, amazing healthy food! The desserts are great too. They make their food from scratch (except the bagels) service is great, coffee is good. Just a nice clean place overall

Love their coffee and vegan fare. Price is a bit high, but the food is consistently awesome and the coffee is better than Starbucks, although I do prefer Alchemy and Lamplighter.
