Tonight my wife and I went on an expedition in to possibly the deepest and most unexpectedly ridiculous levels of customer service hell weve ever experienced. We ordered our food for delivery, and innocently assumed that our lives would continue down the peaceful, pastoral path that we had imagined for the evening. After about an hour of playing Fallout 3 (see previous sentence,) my wife asked where our food was. I thought that was a fair question, since they said it would take about 35 minutes to deliver. I called to ask about it, and was told that it was on the way, and was thanked for my patience. About twenty minutes later, the food had still not arrived. So, being the vigilant citizen that I am, I decided to wait at my glass front door. This proved to be somewhat beneficial, because I was able to see the delivery driver pull onto my street, pause in front of my house, and then go into reverse - at which point he drove directly into my mailbox. The meeting of car and mailbox was completely unprovoked, and this kind of aggression just will not stand, man. So...an hour and change after ordering, I now have cold food and a smashed mailbox. My wife called to ask for a refund (which I think was, uh, I dont know, pretty fair?) She was told that we should have expected a wait, since we were ordering on a holiday. When she asked what holiday it was, she was told Saturday. Let me pause to wish everyone a Happy Saturday. May all your Saturday wishes come true. The rest of the conversation was kind of a blur. We were told that they could bring more food since this order was cold. Given the way the first order went, and the fact that my wife is eight months pregnant, the idea that the next order might not arrive until 10:30 at night was not going to fly. Long story short (well, not really,) we were finally told that we would get a refund, but only after Wifey was told that theyve never had a customer like her before. Uh...a customer who likes hot food in a timely manner, and without a broken mailbox? So yeah. That was our experience. I think next time well order pizza.

This restaurant is one of the most authentic Chinese cuisines in the area. The service is great. They remember you by your address or phone number and often already know what you will order. Weve been eating here for 4 years and have not gone anywhere else since! the Gen Tsos is super! Love the fried rice (no onions) which is no problem! My children LOVE the battered sweet n sour chx. ! Recently moved out of the area and are VERY sad to leave our favorite place to eat!!

There are few delivery options in this area besides pizza. We usually order from here 2x a month and order one of the family platters. It is a lot of food for a good price, so we are able to have leftovers. I am originally from New York, and have experienced really crappy and really good chinese food. This would be in my top 3. I am impressed with the business Cathay Gourmet does and their prices and will continue to order from them as long as I am in Richmond.

I was really shocked people were so harsh because this is the best Chinese food in the forest hill area! It is really fresh and since they do not use MSG, my husband can eat it.Yes, the building looks a little run down, but dont let that deter you. We have never had a bad dish!

Fresh and tasty food, cordial service, and great prices! Cathay is always busy cranking out the carry-out orders. We are always pleased when we order from here. Love that they will cook to order in water not oil and that they use no MSG.

Really good food and reasonably priced. Dont let the outside trick you. It looks a little rough outside, but is really good. They seem to do a strong takeout and delivery business, but we ate there. Will go back.

HORRIBLE!!! Could deal with almost anything but rude, unprofessional service when the food is only okay to begin with? Not so much. I wont make the mistake of returning.
