I have been to Full Kee a few times for dim sum and been pleased enough. I got take out from there one time and the food was not good-it was typical soggy, greasy, chinese food at nearly double the price of a take-out place. A friend and I went there last night (because Mekong was closed) and had a pretty bad experience. The waitress was friendly enough at first but once our dishes came no one came to check and see how we were doing, two different guys came and filled our water glasses after sitting with empty glasses for a while and we finally had to stop our original waitress to get our check after waiting. When we went to pay, no one asked us how our meal was or if everything was ok. If they had asked us, we would have told them no. I ordered the chicken and scallops with mixed vegetables which ran 13.95 and a small order of the wonton soup. The soup was decent, lacked some flavor, but overall not bad. It was nothing impressive and I have had better wonton soup from a take out place. The chicken and scallop dish took a while to come out and when it did it was covered in a thick, gooey brown sauce probably laden with cornstarch. There were very few scallops in the dish but the real problem was the salt. The dish was too salty to eat. I went through about 4 glasses of water and nearly half of my rice to eat a quarter of my dish. I finally gave up and figured I would take it home and try to do something to make it better-like wash off the salt! (It didnt work and I ended up throwing it in the trash.) My friend got the deep-fried mixed seafood dish with shrimp, scallops and squid. The batter was heavy but decent, but his dish was incredibly salty as well. You could see the salt on the batter and it was nearly inedible. This dish was 15.95 and was just fried seafood, it came with no sauce or broth, which we both has assumed it would. I have had lots of chinese food and I have NEVER had anything this salty. Im not particularly salt sensitive either, I used to add salt to many foods, but this was just awful. The waitstaff was inattentive and the food was expensive and gross. I will not be back to Full Kee.

Maybe once upon a time this place was it... well.. it isnt anymore. True, in a desert of cuisine that Richmond tends to be, even dirty water is still water, but that doesnt excuse what we were served. But first... the good. The wait staff was great... the carts came around regularly, everyone was smiling, friendly, and helpful to a few newcomers that ventured in explaining what was in everything. Generally bland little wet sacks, the food lacked any kick or even in some instances any flavor at all, having I can only assume been steamed out of all semblance of what it could have been. I am giving the kitchen as much credit as I can and assuming that they werent just putting bland food out. In either case, the result is the same. The kitchen, however, does share blame in this mess. I unwrapped my steamed lotus leaf to reveal an undersized mass of wet sticky rice that, though should have contained pork and a nice mix of meats, actually contained 1 1/4" slice of hot dog (not sausage.... oscar meyer style hot dog) and 1 baby shrimp. Then came the bill... and even our hosts who frequented the resturant suffered sticker shock. They have decided to cash in on all the trendy west enders invading the ethnic resturants, and jacked up the prices of their plates. For a lunch for 4 people, our bill was over $70.00 Based on their numerous previous experiences, they were expecting about $20 less. I was impressed with the cleanliness of the resturant until my son had to go to the bathroom... luckily it was at the end of the meal. I mentioned it to the staff on the way out, so I can only hope that they paid attention. Look... this is Richmond... we dont have a huge ethnic center full of great resturants... but this was bad even under those circumstances.

We went there on July 3rd for dinner at around 7:45pm. We Ordered 4 dishes: beef brisket and tender on rice, minced beef on rice, assorted meat and seafood casserole, and salt and pepper fried smelts. The 1st dish had the least amount of brisket/tender Ive ever received when ordering the same dish in any Chinese restaurant, which labeled as $9.95. Same thing happened to the minced beef. Other than multiple pieces of tofu and napa, We only saw 2 small pieces of shrimp, 2 small pieces of squid, a half piece of scallop, and a humongous piece of chicken that was bigger and thicker than a chicken tender in the casserole which labeled as $16.99. The taste and smell of casserole made us believe all the items in it are leftovers from at least days before. The fried smelt were extremely over-cooked to the extent that it had almost no fish left in it. This is by far the worst dining experience we ever had in a Chinese restaurant in my 46 years. The waitress could not understand even simple English words such as water and check nor Chinese words. Im not sure if it was a coincidence that after 1.5 hours of waiting, the food came out immediately after asking. I hate to even give it one star. I wish there were options for no stars or even less than none.

Good, authentic Chinese food...for Richmond. Im Asian and I think the food here is pretty authentic. Not up to scratch with Chinatown restaurants in the northeast (where Im from) but I give Full Kee lots of credit for trying to carry dishes that Chinese people actually eat. No other Chinese restaurant in Richmond does this. Sure, theyve got the Americanized stuff were familiar with (General Tso, Beef & Broccoli, Sweet & Sour meats, Sesame Chicken, eggrolls, etc.), but skip it -- seriously. Stick with the Chefs Specials, Hong Kong Style noodle dishes, roast duck/pork, fresh sauteed greens, or the "delicacies" mini-menu. The congee is good, too. On average, taste is pretty good, no complaints. I have not been to their weekend morning dim sum, but thats next on my list! Service is friendly enough, though not super attentive, but definitely not rude. Everyone was courteous and spoke English. They have run out of certain ingredients (e.g. duck, Chinese watercress), so thats a drawback and I hope it doesnt happen again. Ambience is basic, and the food is a little pricey. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place for good food and authentic Chinese dishes.

If you are looking for REAL Chinese food, this is the place, be it Dim Sum or some Beef Chow Fun, or just some Congee. For the best time come on a weekend from 11 AM to 2 PM and get fresh dim sum off the carts they push around. But on be ready for a little wait, everyone in town comes out for the dim sum goodness. Full Kee is not the place if you want people waiting to cater to your ever wish, or to sit in some place that looks like modern art. When the place is slammed, such as on weekends and they are rolling out the dim sum carts the wait staff have little time which any sane person understands. But, why are you out in a restaurant, you are there for the food, and Full Kee is the place. Anyone who says the place is scary much live in a gated community.
