So far, probably one of the better Chinese restaurants in the Richmond area. Sad that we have so few good ones to choose from. Went for the first time after wife recommended the place. Eggplant with spicy garlic sauce was excellent even though I dont generally eat eggplant. Shrimp with Pepper and Garlic was good as well. Lo Mein, another dish I dont generally order, was one of the best Ive had. Pan fried dumpling was also great with a very thin skin made crisp. But I would not order Grandmothers sweet and sour pork again. The sauce was way over powering so thats all you can taste. Looking forward to my next visit to try some other dishes. Update Dec/2015: After number of visits, I am forced to drop my review of Peter Changs after tonights dinner. Something is going on in the kitchen and not for the better. The place has gotten popular and was hopping but it certainly wasnt for the food. It really is too bad since we really lack some good Chinese restaurants in the Richmond area. Basically, all their "spicy" dishes seem to be swimming in the same oil and chili sauce. They all pretty much taste the same from chicken to duck, pork, and shrimp. We had to send the duck hotpot back because it too had the same chili overdose and was too oily with no real flavor. On the positive side, I always found the service to be great with friendly servers. I plan to go back again and really hope they get their act together.

I was given the recommendation from someone at work, and so at the first opportunity to try it this weekend, well, why not? As soon as I walk inside, I ran into a family friend and her cute little family. She, too, recommended this place both by her presence and verbally. So at this point, Ive heard the word "authentic" 5-6 times. This place has something for everyone in terms of authenticity. There were the somewhat rude waitresses (typical of "real" Asian restaurants), and then there were the nice waiters (like at PF Changs, where Caucasians love to eat "real" Chinese food). Booth seating was kind of cheap, as the backrest served as a platform for tennis; every movement of your back and the people on the side side caused the board to move. It was even to the point that there was a little bit of an exchange between my brother and the lady on the other side. (You better watch your back, Woman. Youre out numbered here...) That leads me to my next observation, there were people of all walks here; the PF Chang Lovers, and straight-up-outta-China Chinese people here. So yeah, the place is authentic. As for the food... Ill put it like this: I dont think Ive ever tasted anything quite like it. It was spicy and oily, which is apparently, typical of this regions food. And it was damn good.

We have been in Richmond area for last 6 years and have pretty much experienced most of the restaurants. I remember first time we visited PC. Food was really good. The good taste brought us here second time, some time early this year. It was weekend and the restaurant was packed. I thought that they really know food business. But to my surprise, food tasted horrible. Their fried rice was lumped rice with a dash of soya sauce. Hunan chicken was taste less. This came as a complete surprise, given that our first experience was great. Still I gave them benefit of doubt thinking that it was weekend and they were busy. And we decided yesterday to give it one more try. But Alas! it was same displeasure at best. Food is tasteless, recipes are abused, and PC-goers leave in absolute disgust. I am not sure but I guess their master cook has left and they are lost. Avoid this place at all cost. Servers are pleasant, though.

This place is definitely legit. The food is excellent and quite authentic, as my father who spent ~5 years in China was able to verify. The highlights for me were the pork belly starter and my entree, the Golden Mountain Chicken. It is quite literally a mountain of delicious fried chicken strips covered in a savory sauce, not the overly sweet stuff you tend to find everywhere else. Im not a huge fan of really spicy Chinese food so this dish was right up my alley. The pork fried rice we ordered was good, although pretty much in line with other regular Chinese joints. My brother got a smoked duck he really enjoyed. The service here was friendly and attentive, and we didnt have to wait long for our food either. Really a quality establishment here overall. We got here around 5:30 on a Friday and were seated immediately but after 6 or 6:30 it had filled up and there was a bit of wait.

When you first arrive, the first thing you notice is the smell of heaven in the air, which immediately put a smile on my face. I anticipated a great meal as I walked in the door. Promptly greeted, I asked for a booth and was seated to my liking. My waitress was very knowledgeable of the menu, noting the subtle flavor intricacies of every dish that I inquired about. I started with the wonton soup, which was extremely flavorful and did not come with stale fried noodles (a big no-no for me!). My entree was the pork with spicy garlic sauce, a spot on recommendation by my knowledgeable waitress. The vegetables were crispy, the pork was moist and tender. The spiciness and sweetness prove to be perfect dance partners for this lunchtime meal. This is real Chinese food! Makes me wonder what Ive been eating till I came here. Gluten free and vegetarian options are available.

The food here is amazing! The scallion bubble pancakes, dry fried eggplant, and bamboo fish are my favorite. If you like spicy food, you will enjoy Peter Changs. It definitely deserves its reputation as a great Chinese restaurant, but I think there are a couple of things to remember if youve never been here before : 1. This is a HIGH-END Chinese restaurant, and the prices and business reflect that. There may also be a wait (to be seated and to get served, and for food) because of that, especially during peak dinner times, so be warned if you think you can just zip in and out. 2. This is a neo-Chinese-Asian-fusion restaurant. As someone who is Chinese and cooks Chinese, I came looking for a "home-cooked" authentic feel, which Peter Changs is NOT. It has a lot of different styles combined, so keep that in mind if you are from a Chinese background.

Food: I guess I had never had Chinese food with real flavor before eating here. Who knew there was more in the arsenal than just salt! So. Many. Peppers. Omg. The Duck Bowl was fantastic and such a huge portion! You have to get the dry fried eggplant though. It will leave your mouth burning but in a good way! Atmosphere: Nothing special here at all. Lighting too bright in our booth, felt like i was being interrogated. You wont care though. The food more than makes up for it. If you are taking a date here shell be more impressed that you know where the best places in town are than that its not a fancy atmosphere with candles and white table cloth. Or youre dating the wrong person and need to tell them it isnt working out because they have terrible taste in restaurants. Lives up to the hype! Go! Now! Dont wait any longer! GOO!
