Normally, I really love this place. My girlfriend and I would go there anytime we had the money or were able. It was a great place to go if you had killing for an enchilada. I say normally though, because a recent event ruined the whole experience for me. Sadly to say. We went in on a particularly empty day, and by that I basically mean that we were the only ones there. Seated was fine, the waiter started out fine aside the fact of him running around on his cell phone a lot. We got our waters and both decided to get chimichangas. Mine was soft taco style and hers hard and we both wanted beef instead of chicken. Clearly, he either wasnt listening, because while both of us got it soft taco style [which wasnt that big of a deal] they also came back as chicken. My girlfriend is pretty soft spoken in public and didnt seem to mind it. I, however, have no taste for chicken. knowing this, when the waiter asked if all was ok, I quickly informed that it was supposed to be beef. At which he just stood their for a while before going, "no, you told me chicken." Im sorry. Im normally the type that if a small order mix up happens, I take it, but this was a whole meal on which I wouldnt have been able to eat. So, I said once again that I was supposed to have beef, we both where. To which again, he awkwardly stared for a bit before finally taking the plate and leaving. He returned, with the right food, and set it down. I said thank you and sorry for the trouble just because things like that make me nervous, but he didnt seem to want to hear it. Sliding it to me and rushing away like I was some sort of issue. Aside that, he would go off on his phone some more and barely came around. The whole ordeal was stressing and I wasnt even able to finish my food. I just wanted to go home by that point. I used to love this place, it was usually nice and most of the waiters really put an effort out. This might have been a bad case of just one ill worker... but I cant see myself going back anymore.

My entire family and I have been eating at El Charros for the last 2-3 years regularly. I have been to most all of the other mexican restaurants in Fredericksburg and have found that nothing compares to El Charros service or quality. We can always expect to have an amazing meal for half the price of anywhere else around here. A few months back the smaller El Charros near 4 mile fork closed down. During this time El Charros off of Southpoint was employing a few of their employees. I took some coworkers out to lunch around this same time and it was the only bad experience I have ever had in my 2 and a half years or so of eating there. This is the only reason I can think of for the other reviewer having had a bad experience. I waited about a month to go back to El Charros and when I finally did it was better than ever. In fact, I told our regular waiter about the bad experience and he gave everyone at my table 1/2 off coupons and was extremely apologetic. The service and food never ceases to amaze me. Id never go anywhere else! Five stars all the way!

It took an inordinately long time to be seated. Then it took a while to get drinks. When those came, my husbands ice tea was watered down tasting, as though theyd left ice sitting to melt in the batch. He had to switch that out for a Coke. I ordered Carne Asada, my husband a burrito and taco combination platter. I asked for cilantro and sour cream to accompany my meal. This didnt arrive and I then asked for it again. It took about 10 minutes to get my sour cream cilantro, when that did come, there was a hair in the cilantro. It then took another five minutes or so to get that replaced. My husband was also never delivered a refill for his Coke. Within 20 minutes of leaving the restaurant, I became ill and had to find a bathroom. This was the worst Mexican food that Ive eat outside of a street vendor in Tijuana. Combined with terrible service, I strongly suggest that anyone hungry in that area continue down the road to Cracker Barrel or else go to Pizza Uno across the street.

Ive taken my family to El Charro consistently for many years. The food is well-seasoned but not overbearing. Their ground beef filling is the tasitest Ive ever had. The seasoning is light and tasty, and blends really well with the moist, grease-free beef. The red sauce has a wonderful consistency and tomato flavor. Portions are quite ample and yet the prices are excellent. Service is very efficient all the way through. You are seated quickly, wonderful chips with salsa and a white sauce arrive almost immediately, orders are filled fast and the food arrives hot, and even paying your bill goes quickly. Even so, the efficiency does not feel rushed or frazzled, and the staff is warm and friendly, with many having been there a long time. My family always feels so welcome when we walk in the door to enjoy the best mexican "comfort food" around.

I think they have the best mexican food in the area hands down.I dont understand the complaints from others saying its bad, the only complaint I have is the waiters are not friendly, also they dont like providing you with enough salsa with the big basket of chips, you will have to constantly have to ask for more salsa, it is very good salsa but its not gold. Then the checkout process is another issue i have because they have to recheck your bill like they have no confidence in the first person who did it or maybe they think you changed your bill somehow to give yourself a discount, oddest thing I have seen in a restaurant.I wont be coming back anytime soon.

I read the Best Avoided review and was pretty shocked. I have been eating at El Charro for over 5 years now. It is literally the best in town (though Pancho Villa is also a good option). I am guessing that person just had an off night. The service there is usually timely (unless they happened to be understaffed on a busy night) and the food is usually excellent. Its definitely a great place to eat.

I have been going to El Charros ever since they opened up years ago and they are probably the most authentic Hispanic restaurant in the Spotsylvania area. On top of this, they are the most affordable restaurant that I have ever eaten at. Just went on a date the other night and for both of us to eat it was under $35.00 and the portions were bigger than we could eat.

I have been going here for years and moved away, but we were passing by on the way back from vacation and decided to stop by. The food is delicious and whatever sauce they serve with the chips is amazing! Theyve never updated the place since Ive been going, but service was great and food was exactly how I remembered it. Easy to get to with a ton of parking!

The best Mexican food in the Fredericksburg area. Ive been there many times since I discovered the place last fall. My wife and step daughter also love the food there. The staff has been very good. The food is excellent and I will continue to go back.
