A couple buddies and I decided to check this place out since weve heard so much about it and were all really into Vietnamese lately. For the most part, it was good. We all enjoyed what we had ordered but all agreed that we werent really anxious to hurry back. I tried the round eye and brisket Pho with the curry chicken Banh Mi. Overall, this place seems to be more trendy than delicious. However, the price cant be beat. There are much better options for Pho and Banh Mi throughout the valley, and for now Ill stick with my favorites. The parking and seating area awful tight, but folks are very willing to share a table with you and its casual and homey enough to make it kinda fun. There isnt a parking lot but plenty of options on State Street and a few spots down the alley to the South. The one complaint we all shared was that the entire restaurant had a funky foot odor and kinda smelled like a junior high locker room. Not very pleasant. It wasnt a fresh aroma either, like something they were preparing, but more like and old stale aroma thats in the woodwork, on the walls, wafting from the kitchen, who knows! In closing, if invited here by friends or coworkers, Id probably return, but wont personally be choosing or suggesting this place to others.

New to ban mi...not from area...not available Where we live. Had a pork sandwich from a competitor a year ago....I have been craving the delicious freshness I experienced....visiting salt lake again didnt have time to drive to west valley so we decided to try oh mai... Stopped at one location, went in I have a shellfish allergy...and no-one there could tell me if the chilli- lime fish vinigarette had shellfish..and since it was used on most of the sandwiches, it limited my options, so we left to try another shop further north. Got there to find the oh mai sign on the front, baby the old sign still on the side of the building. This location could suggest leaving the fish sauce off. So I tried the ribeye...my wife had the honey pork sandwich. She took one bite and almost vomited from the overpowering fishy taste(and she likes seafood)...I tried my sandwich it was dry, and not at all like the bahn mi I had been craving....the carrot and Daikon could hardly be found. I ate part of it, and we went around the corner and had an amazing Philly cheesesteak....I was never so disappointed.....Ill be driving to west valley next time Im in town....

In short, best bahn mi sandwich Ive had, unique pho, and a great environment. If Cafe Trangs is subway, Oh Mai is like Gandolfos or Jersey Mikes, in terms of quality and flavor. Everything is much fresher with better ingrediemts, especially the baguette. I will definitely be coming back for more. I had the shredded pork and also suggest the garlic rib-eye. Now for the pho, Ive had a whole lot of different phos across the valley. Oh Mais broth tasted completely different, as if they used a different kind of beef. It wasnt bad at all, in fact the noodle was cooked perfectly and I loved the brisket, but the broth is very unique. It was like having a different kind of soup. I still think the very best pho is at Gossip Tapioca, but that could just be my opinion. I loved the aesthetic of the interior and exterior, it was just very small. But, I think that added to the charm, it felt like you were being served food in somebodys home. Definitely loved it, I give maybe 4.2 out of 5 in overall experience.

Previous post edited! My first order of the Rainbow Salad and classic (#1) Bahn Mi was truly awesome. Hence the retaining four stars. Today, however, the bratty young woman talking to her friends on her cellphone at the register was rude and delivered terrible service. Really, she was a perfect example of a terrible employee. I ordered the Lemongrass Bahn Mi and it was extremely disappointing. Fail! What a waste of that awesome bread! Then, their pho?! Pro tip: dont ever order pho from a place that doesnt offer tripe or tendon. Not legit. I wont do that again. While their brisket was super fatty, they have a an over-seasoned and over-cooked broth. I would not recommend. Thank god for their excellent chili oil, if you make it super spicy, you will curb your disappointed here.

We absolutely love this place. BUT... We went there on Veterans Day. Some blond haired guy ran the cash register. Last service. We got there at 8:30pm and was told that they are out of a lot of stuff and that they definitely will be closing at 9pm. Oh, we could handle that. However while sitting down to eat we could hear him make his party plans for the night. He could bring his own rum to the party. We watched while he turned customers away. You could tell that he wanted to get out of there fast. The owner should really evaluate this employees work performance. Losing out on good business already standing In line. Just to be turned away. Like I said we absolutely love the food and restaurant. This guy does not do this place justice.

I have been to Oh Mai many times and have always loved their sandwiches. It is safe to rate the curry chicken sandwich a "10" and I had not been a curry fan until having this meal. But recently something has changed. My most recent visit proved to be a great disappointment, unfortunately. The baguette was dry and seemed bigger, which made the sandwich "all bread" and to make it worse, the ingredients seemed old. I will not turn my back on this place mainly because I have had so many positive experiences there, but I certainly hope this is not the beginning of something terrible. Have they hired a new, incompetent chef? I guess well see. Please go back to fresh ingredients and smaller portions.

LOVE Oh Mai. Ill reflect others statements when I say "oh Mai has the BEST banh mi sandwiches in Salt Lake." Ive had a lot of banh mi in the valley, and yes there are cheaper ones, but I cant help but feel like Oh Mai has the best sandwich for the buck. Always excellent. With admittedly more American taste buds (avoid the original sandwich, its a bit strong), I absolutely love their honey pork and recently their spicy beef short rib sandwiches. Their kimchi seemed a bit sweeter than Im used to, but still added a lot of flavor to the spicy beef. Couldnt recommend this place enough, but beware of the large weekday lunch crowds. Its a small shop and it gets a bit hectic at times.

Ordered the pho to go. My sister and I shared the portion and within 20 minutes of eating it, we were both keeled over the toilet throwing up. Definitely a case a food poison. Im not sure about the cleanliness of the kitchen. I brought the container back and told them I had been food poisoned, that they need to inspect their kitchen or some of their ingredients. A girl behind the counter snapped back at me telling me I was wrong. Getting angry at two girls you had just made violently ill is not cool. Stay far away from this place.

Definitely will eat here again. The place is adorable and quaint, and the banh mi sandwiches were delicious. The menu is very well priced, and the food was out to us in like 2 minutes. Lots of GOOD vegetarian and vegan options for my boyfriend, although there were no seafood options. That said, I was disappointed with the pho. Ive heard great things about it, and it may have been a bad batch. It wasnt gross, but all the ingredients definitely tasted old - like leftover pho that has been in my fridge overnight.
