Let me start by saying the food was good. The experience, however, was not so great. First off, the table where they were cutting the meat was filthy. It looked as if they hadnt cleaned the cutting table in months... truly was a turn off. And as they scrape meat off the dirty table and slide it onto a plate or sandwich, it was not appealing at all. They need to just scrub down that whole front area. While we were paying, I heard one of the workers that was cutting meat drop a knife. I also watched that person walk with the knife into the back just out of everyones view that was standing in line, making it look as if he was getting a new knife. However, I could see him as we had just paid and I turned back around to watch, and he didnt switch the knife... he simply walked back to the cutting section and started cutting again with what was already a nasty knife. So, we went to sit down. The first table we sat at was disgustingly sticky, including the bench. We moved and sat another table and same thing... a little less sticky but still very sticky, where I couldnt put elbows on the table without sticking to the table (I know, where are my manners). To make the visit even more unpleasant, I went to get some butter for the bread, which they store next to the soda fountain in a condiment section. The whole corner was disgusting! flies were everywhere (which I know is probably tough to deal with in TX, so I would give them a pass on the flies) and there were droplets of food and drink everywhere. The drink station was a mess, the condiment station was a mess, and dont get me started on how dirty everything looked around the ice cream and the bread pudding area! What really irked me most was the price. I am OK paying more money for exceptionally good food, as I love Ricks, Bobs, III Forks, etc. however my son and I got two sliced beef sandwiches and 2 drinks, and the price was just over $30! I thought for sure they added it wrong, and even asked, and they said that is the correct amount. Although the sandwich was good, which is why I gave it a 2 star, after seeing how filthy everything was, and I mean FILTHY, I was frankly almost afraid to even eat the sandwich! They need to either clean that place up, or drop their prices in half before I would consider going back... and even if they dropped their prices in half, I would still be concerned about food poisoning. Needless to say, not a great experience.

The food is so good that it doesnt matter that its always crowded and that I stood in line over 30 minutes waiting to have my turn to order. That was inside. The drive thru is quite long too! Ive always ordered from the drive thru but one of my sons bought me dinner and we went inside. Expect your clothes and hair to smell like smoked food. Yet still I give it five stars The meat is very tender and tasty. The BBQ sauce is great. There sandwiches are large and the rolls are good I got the baked potatoes with beef shredded brisket on it and it was so gigantic that I made two rather large meals of it. There are people around to help but you order and get a tray and serve and seat yourself. Theres a bar for salad, sides and dessert. The desserts included when you dine in. Theres peach cobbler, banana pudding and ice cream. When you go through the drive thru you have to pay for the dessert and its a small serving. I thinks its a special feature that they offer it to those choosing to dine in. Especially since its a long wait standing to have your turn. I know the food network ranked this place one of the best in the country.

After standing in line almost an hour we placed our order. My disabled daughter and I took our drinks and sat at a table. My husband was at the register to pay. I realized I needed to help him carry the food. When I turned around with my food my daughter was standing there crying. She said they had told her to get up and go stand in line. I went to our table and another family was there, they pointed out the worker who had made my daughter leave. When I asked where we were supposed to sit she shrugged and walked back to the kitchen. I followed and spoke to the guy at the register who replied its our policy, no holding tables. I said but we had our food, your worker threw away our drinks. He said again thats our policy. We are standing there holding all our food, my daughter is crying, there is no other place to sit and no one will help us. My husband asked for to go boxes and we left. No apology (and no drinks). Let me make clear again we were not holding a table, we had our food and were bringing it to the table. My daughter tried to explain this, but the Hutchins employee told her to get up and go stand in line.

I dined in with my community group last night and while i was in line i was literally watching the meat cutter wear one glove and touching the meat with both hands. It wasnt a big deal to me because since they were out of basically all meant besides brisket and i had catfish. Not 2 hours after i eat im headed home and become very ill VERY FAST. So ill in factvim just now able to get fluids down. I call the store to inform them of my experience and the fismrst manager i talk to just says "ok".. I call back after an hour or so to talk to the store manager and i get a man named "Darrell." i cant understand what hes telling me so i ask him to spell it and he becomes a huge smartass saying yay DING DING DING good job! That was irritaiting but when i told him the reason i was calling he told me that i basically didnt matter because noone else has called so it didnt matter and it was his lunch rush. I didnt want to do this because ive loved their food for years but the manager service is extremely poor and im betting theyre not to strict on employee cleanliness. My family will never eat there again and thats unfortunate.

On Friday 8/22/14, at 330pm, I tried to call in an order of catfish at Hutchin’s BBQ and Catfish. I was told they no longer take call-in orders on the weekend?????? It’s first come, first served he told me. I asked if that would require me to sit in the drive-thru for 10 minutes and he responded, YES! As ANYONE who has EVER used the drive-thru at Hutchin’s in McKinney, TX knows, that’s the approximate wait time no matter what you order. I’m not sure how Hutchin’s defines “The Weekend” but I never would have thought 3:30pm was part of the weekend. And what in the world does the weekend have to do with anything? If I call in an order 2 minutes before someone pulls up to the speaker to order their food, I WAS FIRST!!!! If it requires me to pre pay, I have no problem with that, I understand some folks may not come pick up a called-in order. Don’t worry Hutchin’s, I will never be the reason you run out of food, I can find somewhere else in McKinney to purchase my catfish. They take call in orders and even deliver, and it’s cheaper, too!!!!!
