I loved this place when it was at the old location. This one however, leaves a lot to be desired for. I went with my family at 11:30 (30 minutes after they opened) and we got in line to wait. After waiting an hour in line we finally got to the door only for the line to be wrapped around the inside of the building. We noticed an Express line for 5 lbs or more purchases and figured we could easily all share 5 lbs so we got out of line and went to the express line. Most of my family was in town from Lubbock and had never been there so they had to look at the menu for a bit to decide. The guy at the register was EXTREMELY rude. We were just looking at the menu and he was freaking out about how long we were taking when there was no one else in the express line! After 5 minutes he said aggressively "I dont have time to take your 15 minute order", huffed, and walked away. A 5 lb order averages $100...is that not worth 5 minutes of deciding? Say something like...I dunno..."Hey guys, do you mind if I take someone from the main line while you guys decide?" not "I dont have time for you" He pulled someone from the other line and then proceeded to ignore them tell my grandmother when she asked a question "Look lady, I need you to commit to an order...I dont have time to explain things to you" enraging me into saying "Really? Sounds like you dont even want our order" and beginning an argument...We were only looking at the freakin menu! No need to be rude, maybe...I dunno...have a paper menu to hand out? Come on bud...learn how to treat customers. I couldnt handle this guys rude behavior any more so I walked off and let the family order. As I was walking off I noticed a lady struggling at the door with the door stop. I went to help but could not figure out the stopper. I walked to one of the bar tenders and kindly requested help since the line was going out the door and around the building still and surely he knew how it worked. He all but shouted that he "did not have time to focus on her, let her figure it out" and walked off. I understand stress - but these people clearly do not care for their customers. Also - When we finally got the food it was NOWHERE near the quality of the old location. Very disappointed in this visit to a place I used to love and frequent

The one star is for what it used to be. When they were at the Farmers Market. Before Diners, Drive Ins, And Dives found them. Heck, it was even still great BBQ 6 months after the taping because it didnt air right away. First came the line snaking around the perimeter of shed 2. So that even if you got there before the brisket sold out, by the time the 50 people in front of you went through you were lucky to get a piece of fried chicken. I did not come to homelessville downtown for chicken. Next, it was the service. That can be a bit expected because of the hundreds of people they were serving now, but a smile or look of acknowledgement to someone who has been there since the beginning was too much to ask. Forget about coming out to talk to the diners eating your food as was customary. Then they moved to Deep Ellum and gave the reigns over to cooks who know didley about laying the perfect amount of smoke on the que and what we end up with is something reminiscent of the smell of cheap dog food.. Or those begging strips my Dalmatian is so fond of. Finally the quality of the meat began to suffer. What I ended up with was overly fatty brisket on one end or tough as shoe leather on the opposite end. No pork flavor on the ribs. The silver skin they forgot to peel was stuck in my teeth. Beef ribs full of gristle and fat. Fried chicken that taste like they need to change the fry oil. But it was the brisket that was the biggest disappointment. Brisket I used to wake up early Saturday morning for, drive down town and spend over $100 on several pounds of it.. this GRAY piece of meat that Ive been chewing on fir 8 solid minutes, that Im now spitting out is NOT that brisket. Ill pass. There are far better places serving Que in this town. This is not representative of good Texas barbecue anymore. Its really a shame, because they had a great product but sold out for the hype. They wont last.

This place was pretty good. I dont think it was super rave like Ive been hearing about, however, it wasnt anywhere near awful--and Ive had tons of barbecue! First off, the location SUCKS. You have to pay for parking and the machine eats your money (dont use cash!) Secondly, make sure you get there when they open so you can get a spot. There are signs on the tables that say something along the lines of, "Dont take a table unless you have a receipt." If you get there late you kind of have to stand there awkwardly and watch like a hawk for people to get up, so its just best to get there early! Now on to the food: I decided to come here for my birthday in November because of all the good reviews, and I believe Pecan Lodge was on the Food Network--I could be wrong but Im pretty sure they were. That warrants a trip! The plates were twenty dollars apiece, I think--it wasnt cheap! I got the pork ribs, hot sausage link, okra (my favorite!), and mac and cheese. The meats were excellent. I really liked the sauce, although I didnt think it needed it, which is surprising for me because I think barbecue without sauce is just bleh! So kudos to them for making it moist and not dry without the sauce! The sausage link was very spicy, but I liked it like that! The mac and cheese was bland and TOO cheesy, if there is such a thing; I didnt like it. The okra was too salty, but I ate it anyway, because I LOVE okra! (In case you havent figured that out already). No one really cares about the sides at a barbecue joint, though, its all about the meats and how long they slow cooked for, how fast they sell out, if theres smoke coming out of the chimney, blah, blah, blah...this is Texas. Theres barbecue joints all over! To conclude: Would I go back? I think I would, but only for special occasions, a once a year type thing. I wouldnt eat there everyday!

We have been loyal customers of Pecan Lodge for a number of years. Their food is decent (but a little pricey). The service is somewhat slow (generally) as you have to stand in a line (and it’s usually a long line) to order food. However, it’s still a good place for barbeque if you are in the area. I received a recorded phone call message around 9/14/15, inviting me to attend an event featuring Governor Greg Abbott. We obtained two tickets via the internet and read all of the information around the event. We found no requirement that attendees purchase food (we would have had no issue with purchasing food); however, the event was to begin at 1:45 pm, which seemed a bit late for lunch (and a lot early for dinner). The event organizers greeted us and suggested that we find a seat. After a couple of minutes a Pecan Lodge employee came to the table and inquired if we had ordered our food. We told her that we had not (there was a very long line to order food). Before either of us could tell her that we were planning to wait a few minutes and order drinks/desert, she told us that we either had to get in the food line, or that the event was standing room only (and for those who have not been to Pecan Lodge, there is very little “standing room” inside the restaurant). I told her that we did have a third choice and that was to leave, which we did. Sorry, Pecan Lodge, your food is not that great. We had been loyal customers for some number of years, but after this experience, I doubt that we will go back again. If Pecan Lodge did not want to host the Governor of Texas, they should have simply declined when asked to do so. I realize that you have to make a living from sales of your food, but to treat an event attendee the way that we were treated is inexcusable.
