More like 2 and a half stars. My party were celebrating a graduation. We decided to go to Benihana in downtown thinking it would be perfect. At 8:30 PM we called to make a reservation and decided to walk since we were down the street. I was told the table would be ready when we got there, no problem. We took our time walking giving them enough time to set for us. About 8:45 PM our party arrives and we were told the table is getting clean. Five minutes later the host told us to wait 5 more minutes as we wait for a chef. So, okay theyre trying. 10 minutes past by and i went towards to host stand and no one was there. I was standing there for another 5 minutes thinking where is everyone? I glanced over and there were two perfect empty tables. I sat at the bar thinking maybe I would get better service but I was ignored just as much there. Finally, around 9:05 PM we found what I guess was the manager still didnt ask if we needed help just wondered where the host was. Finally saw the host and asked if we can sit at the table at least and order drinks. He said, "Well, you have to wait for the chef. Unless you want to be just sitting there." Mean while our party are already cranky,hungry, and tired of waiting. We got our table finally... The waiter seemed nice but she was every where. They brought our waters maybe a minute after we sat down which was great. 5 minutes looking into the menu she came around asking if we were ready and she was starting with me. I asked a question on the menu. She pointed something out and literally walked away in the middle of my order rushing to another table I guess. About 15 minutes later she came around. Finally took everyones order. Someone asked for a napkin twice from her and she just put it on my plate without looking and ran away again. I would say it was not that busy, maybe not even under staff, Im not sure. But we didnt feel important. The cook was great as usual, funny, and food was great. Though I think he messed up by not separating the chicken rice with shrimp rice. So the people who wanted shrimp had chicken too! About 11 PM we left. Over all, the service needs to be better. It is such a great location and Ive been to many locations. This one was the worst one sad to say. It could be a bad day and I understand people want to go home. But if you act like you dont like your job then quit. Always give 100% regardless of the situation.

I had high expectations going into my evening, as everybody tells me how amazing Benihana was. We went there without reservation, and were greeted by a very rude hostess. We were told there was an hour wait, the hostess rolling her eyes at us. Fine, we sat by the bar to wait for our turn and grabbed a drink. Eventually we were seated at an overcrowded table. The waitress did not come with our drinks until 10 minutes later, and there was no hibachi chef. We had planned 2 hours for our dinner, yet had to walk out before ordering our food because no way we would have made it to our show later that night, since we hadnt even started ordering food 75 minutes in. All the while, we were sweating our b***s Off, it was hotter inside the restaurant than outside, on a JULY evening! The entire place appears poorly managed, unorganized, and cutting corners everywhere. The vibe at this place was very chaotic and off-putting. I expect more from a restaurant within this price range and reputation, especially in a downtown location. Needless to say, we will not return. Some places do not deserve a second chance, and there are tons of better, nicer, and more reasonably priced dining options in downtown Houston.

I was really looking forward to eating at Benihana this evening but was completely disappointed. We arrived on time for our reservation and we were not seated till 30 min later. We waited another 30 min for them to fill up our table. We then proceeded to wait even longer for our chef. After a conversation with the owner we learned they got a lot of walk ins and were backed up due to a convention next door. What I am livid about is why they would allow walk ins to affect the quality of service they gave to those of us who had reservations? To top it all off, when the chef finally arrived and began cooking she overcooked all of the food! The scallops, shrimp even our filet mignon! When we spoke to the manager he told us it didnt sound like we would like the food if the chef cooked it for us again so we should just leave! Needless to say we were dissatisfied and will not be returning.

Yeah I had huge expectations from what my other friends told me but when I went here on a date one time this place was not what I expected it to be first we came in and we wanted to sit at a table with 8 people that we did not know okay second we order the food and the chef prepared it in front of us now okay we ordered the shrimp not just to shrimp but the high and shrimp if I forgot what the name was but the thing is is that its expensive $24 and this is what they did they give me the smallest portion of shrimp and my date I even smaller portion of shrimp and they gave everybody else a huge portion of shrimp and that right there just made me mad why would I paid $24 for shrimp when basically I cannot even get most of the shrimp so yeah this place gets a little grade I had my hopes up Benihana maybe next time

Quite unpleasant and beyond unacceptable. Definitely did not perform up to its name. I was told the wait would be an hour, yet watched 2 groups go before me and was told I could sit in the lounging area if I, "didnt want to wait". Once I sat in the waiting area, they took my drinks and then the manager came to us, and said that there was a table ready. I was content however as soon as I sat down, 3 waiters took our drink order, our chef took another hour to BEGIN to take our dinner order and if it couldnt get any worse, we were accidentally charged for the table a cross us even though they werent even done eating. The food was pretty good, however the service and experience is not worth the price tag. Do not recommend this specific location.

The establishment was not orderly. I expected more froma downtown Houston location no food well after an hr and then they served 2 tables to the left us then skipped our table as the third and went straight to the 4th table. No compensation but allowed me to use my birthday coupon. I still spent almost 100$. I have been to other locations in other major cities. All I can say is Benihana you are slipping because we were in the establishment for 2hrs plus on A Monday. Yes I still tipped but was not really feeling it. The drink I ordered they charges me twice even my little ones wondered when our chef was coming. Flat out unacceptable for Benihana. Now am 1 hr into the basketball game and have nit caught a glimpse yet its NBA finals!!
