Its a nice looking place. A bit cramped though. But from the looks of it, seems it can fit quite a lot of ppl. The interior is quite nice and theres some private areas for families or small groups. A bar is centered in the back with lots of lucky Asian decor. I went around 12 and it wasnt busy. Now, Im very picky about my Japanese food. I grew up in Yokosuka and Okinawa (11 years) so I have a very good idea of how the food should be. The menu does have some non-Japanese food as its a fusion restaurant. So expect some items to not be Japanese. I ordered the boa boa (the white steamed bun with pork belly) I believe it is Chinese. Not the best Ive had but it tasted almost exactly like BACON and anything that tastes like bacon is great in my book. The best is from jinya. But if your nervous about trying this particular item and want it to tast like something familiar this one is your best bet For my main entree I ordered my favorite Japanese dish ever which is katsudon! The presentation was quite nice! Arrived piping hot and quite a big portion too! But there wasnt enough broth! It had enough to pour over the top but not enough to even color the rice. It felt quite dry. The taste was good but I can actually make it better... I also had a couple appetizers which are not pictured but they were delicious!!!! Order this Tuna tartar and add a bit of soy sauce and its perfect! Highly recommend that!!!! In all its a nice place with good food. Its pretty slow around lunch time and I can in there a lil after 12. The staff was pretty nice and the atmosphere was quite. If I order the katsudon again Ill have to see if they can add extra broth! I feel its a safe choice kind of place. I do want to give it a 4 star but Im more of a 3.5. Ill edit my review after I try it again

Absolutely positively the WORST place Ive been to down here. I brought my husband and son today and initially was imposed by the decor but it all went down hill from there. My husband and I ordered beer which was warm after 10 minutes of waiting. The steam dumplings came out literally a minute after ordering them so they were cold and nowhere near steamed. We told the waitress...she took them away and brought them back another minute later after apparently dropping them in hour water....but still not steamed. My husband was turned off, stopped eating and canceled the rest of his meal. My son ate the dumplings and threw up 10 minutes later. My simple California and Philadelphia rolls came out warm not cold as anticipated. My husband took our son to clean up and meanwhile the manager took his precious time coming over to address the issues. Adding insult to injury, he asked if I wanted to box the sushi my son vomited in.....AND left the cup full of soda and vomit on the table while waiting to pay for the warm beers....which took 15 minutes. Over an hour and $15 out my day and Im still effing hungry....save your money and eat elsewhere...

Total disappointment. I had been thinking about going here ( again) for some weeks. I finally decided to go. I ordered the Salmon Hibachi and my guest chose the Bento ( spelling) box. Lets say it took them about 15 minutes to take an order on a Tuesday night ( definitely no crowd). When the food came out, it was warm (exaggeration) as if I drove it home ( I live about 10 minutes down the street). To put the icing on the cake, there was a string of hair in my food which I had to pull out from under my veggies. Totally disgusted. Of course they took it back and I asked to remove it from my check. Do you think I got anything from the piss poor service. Ummmm nope, the manager did not apologize or anything. The waiter did however it was not his fault, he didnt cook it. Im sure he was maintaining report for tip. Anyhow, that was the last time, I will go back there. Only thing good was my mojito. I should have requested a full refund due to the food being garbage. Never again.

went there today, had the tuna tartare from the appetizer menu, which was honestly the best in the course. it came with chips which was frehsly made and there were plenty. later ordered the skydiver roll (soft shell crab, avocado, onion & cucumber & fresh water eel) which taste wise was decent, but as mentioned by the reviewer before me started falling apart when I tried to pick them up. the proportion of fish was way too much compared to the other fillers (which should be good right?) but it is not how good sushi should be. ended with the mango sorbette, which was pretty good. the service was 5 star & reminded me of upscale restaurants in the $$$$ range. the chef needs training in rolling the sushi .... I would go there again though. there are a few other good ones nearby which I also frequent.

Over all ok place tries really hard to be hip, they play early 90s music and have ladies nights but over all not impressed. Our 1st trip was ok but after that this place bottomed out after repeated trips I found the food to be lacking. Its very american sized sushi which falls apart when you try and eat it. Its to large so be eaten u have to cut it up. Then to top it off the other rolls Ive ordered have been lacking in the fish area but lots of filler. After all this I would recommend avoiding this place, and try for one of the multiple other options in the area. If this place got a new sushi chef id think about it or bring back the old one but whomever is currently rolling needs to work on construction, size to mouth ratio, and presentation.

Our experience at Masa was totally unacceptable: we ordered a Carltonwoods roll that came out completely burnt on top. I mean completely black!! (unbelievable that they had the nerve to serve in the beginning). we asked for a new one. and then this time the toppings came out completely raw. They did not make us a new one but scrapped just the top off, even worse this time with un-cooked toppings. We returned it again, and heard shouting and cursing from the kitchen. The Japanese cook was swearing in Japanese (I can understand Japanese) and made us feel really uncomfortable. After that we just came out after paying without the caltonwoods roll. We are done with this restaurant. We are never going back to this one.

I go to Masa multiple times a month and this is the best place in Clear Lake without a doubt as I think its now surpassed TB as the best sushi place in Clear Lake. I usually get their Sushi & Sashimi combo and its very reasonably priced and always excellent. I ve never been disappointed and been going for several years now. If you like the real deal which of course means we are talking salmon & tuna sashimi I highly recommend Masa. I usually get take out, put it in the fridge for a few hours and then have it later in the evening with a fav IPA. But I have also dined their and their service is very good.
