TL;DR - New location, terrible service (they did try to remedy, not good enough), good food, expensive I went to lunch at Miyakos new location on Washington Ave on December 21. I hope the quality of the service was due to their being a new location, and that it will improve quickly. When they opened at 11:30, we were the first and only table in there. A couple of people in my group ordered iced tea to drink and when the server came back with the other drinks he said that they were brewing it, but that it would be out shortly (they ended up waiting almost 30 minutes and had to remind the server about the tea). At first they were attentive, but by 11:45 there were about 8 other tables seated. I only ever saw two servers, one manager, one sushi chef, and one restaurant attendant, and it was immediately obvious that two servers were not enough. After finally getting our servers attention again around 12:00, we ordered. About 15-20 minutes later all the food came out, except for mine. I was expecting that mine would be out in just a minute, so I waited. 10 minutes had gone by when we were able to get the managers attention and inquired about my dish. The order has been lost in the shuffle. The order was placed again, and at about 12:40 (more than 1 hour after getting there), my food arrived at the table. The order was incorrect, but I wasnt going to wait any longer, so I ate it. The food was good. Other than a few items on the menu, it was over-priced. They comped my chicken rice bowl, so they did try to rectify the situation, but it just wasnt enough. Nice staff, good food, but I will not be returning due to the service, especially considering the prices you pay to receive that type of service.

I went Miyako on a Washington Avenue on a Friday evening with my girlfriend. They have a private parking garage out back with free parking which is a huge plus for this area of Houston. The restaurant looks pretty new and has a nice atmosphere. Their lobby is extra special because they have a live turtle pond! We ordered two Miso Soups ($2.50 each) and the Spicy Chipotle Edamame ($5.50) to start. The soup was good, but the edamame was honestly pretty terrible. The spicy chipotle sauce was awful; they should change this sauce immediately. We looked over their main menu with the sushi rolls, but they forgot to give us a nigiri sushi menu. I asked for it, but our waitress didnt give us one. We still ordered two pieces of Unagi nigiri ($2.65 each) anyway. They have an mindblasting number of sushi rolls on their menu... its overwhelming. We ordered two; the Mango Go Maki for $10 and the Spicy Tuna on Crispy Rice for $11. These were both meh. I wouldnt recommend either of them. They have other items on their menu like udon noodles. I want to try more from them. Overall, I like the atmosphere of this place; its good for a date night. I like the fact they have a private parking garage. I LOVE that they have a turtle pond in the front! The food items I tried were okay, and I feel like I need to try more from their menu to give an overall review. Its just a typical sushi place, but I gave them bonus stars for the atmosphere, parking situation, and the TURTLES only.

Stopped in for lunch, and to get out if the rain. Was craving sushi and nothing close to me was open... or that I liked. Didnt realize there was a Miyako here on Washington, decided to give it a try. I prefer non-chain places, but limited to where I was (heavy rain out) and what was open. I ordered house salad w/ miso dressing, a piece of King Salmon (on the specials board), beef sashimi, the ocean roll sans jalapeño, and a glass of chardonnay. Salad was huge, with cherry tomatoes, which is a nice change if pace. Was typical, but tasty. Salmon melted like butta! The beef sashimi came with a spicy-ish (white girl spicy) citrus vinaigrette that rocked!! It was thicker chunks of ribeye and was very tasty! Definitely will get again. The ocean roll was awesome, too. And the Yoku (sp?? Dont have menu anymore) had a nice twang to it. I will order again as well. I came in a little after 2, and was told (at the end if my meal lol) that 2 pm is the only hour not on happy hour. They do a reverse hh at 9 as well. Ill be back to give that a try.

Wow....I love nigiri -- Its my favourite sushi, my favourite food in the world-- but my first experience with Miyako will be my last. I ordered takeout, a combination nigiri and maki sushi assortment. It looked great -- but smelled fishy -- not good. And at first bite, I could tell why. Dry, stale fish. Its like they just shovelled todays lunch leftovers into a takeout container. I love sushi so much, Im probably more forgiving than most. But this. This was just terrible. Express Roll on Memorial is far better, and it is prepackaged, although they bring in fresh fish twice a day, I understand. Whatever the case -- their sushi tastes fresh, moist, and flavourful. Miyakos was dry, stale, fishy-smelling, and almost twice the price. Im so disappointed. I dont often write reviews, but this...This was just beyond bad.

Horrible take out experience. First they overcharged us for the food and said the prices online were for dine in only. I didnt ask any questions but asked her to remove one item because I didnt want to pay $40 for 3 sushi rolls. She ran my card then walked away. Since Im in the service industry I tipped 20% even though it was only takeout. I never saw her again. I saw the sushi chef preparing something for about 7 minutes then walked away. I assumed he went to the back to finish it. I waited patiently for an additional 10 minutes before a server came up to me to ask my name. I told him and he said my order would be out shortly. It wasnt. In total I waited nearly 40 minutes for my order and I was so frustrated I just left. Im never going there again.

Very small dining spaces, and your table will be right on top of your neighbor. Id hate to write a review about a specific member of the wait staff, however, we were rushed through dinner and the waiter actually told us he had a big table coming and how we needed "to put our orders in right away" and me and my SO really just wanted a little time to digest our food between courses. He brought us the check without even asking us if we were finished. I will never be back because its too cramped, and because of the waitstaff. The food is good here, but the menu is very much like a big cartoon with lots of colors and pictures. Not a good impression for a date.

The atmosphere is good, little noisy though. The food is excellent, especially their after 9pm happy hour. When they say 9pm they mean it, you can not order anything off the happy hour menu until 9:01pm! Saki bombs are a complete bomb! Apparently they no longer serve beer in bottles.....only on draft, which makes saki bombs not only messy, but the beer gets flat a lot quicker! The service is mediocre at best. Definitely love the food! And reverse happy hour though!
