I wish i could rate this rat hole a "0". The only things that were pleasant was the quick seating and the iced tea. My wife and I decided to have dinner at this place because of the reviews on here and the claim on the billboard of being the best home cooking in Dallas. I ordered the chicken fried steak with fries and a salad. My wife ordered the liver and onions with white rice and onion rings. Knowing that the onion rings would have an upcharge, that was what she wanted. She also ordered a cappuccino. She asked about her coffee 3 times when our waitress finally came around. We watched 3 tables of people come in after us and be served before us. Her coffee came.....after she got her meal. Now, were set. Time to eat. As she was eating her tough liver, she started chocking on it. She attempted to wash it down but that made things worse. She ended up getting sick at the table, but she did her best to not upset the other diners. Before we left, we brought it to our waitresss attention. She offered to make her another one. We are traveling and do not have a refrigerator or microwave. So, we declined. She then told us that she would fix it on our ticket. When I went to pay, my total was $27.76. I asked why and was told "I took off the liver, what more can i do?". I asked what the charge was for and she said " I charged you for your meal, her coffee and the sides for her meal.". Now, correct me on this, but arent the sides considered part of the meal? Why should I have been for those? So, I asked to speak to the manager. Well, guess who that was. Thats right, my waitress. Long story short, every employee there needs to take courses on customer service. This was our first visit there and rest assured our last. I know we are just one set of customers, but with service like this, it wont take long before we arent alone. CONSIDER SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!!!

This hole-in-a-wall joint is a staple Dallas diner that serves hearty, delicious home-cooked meals with a side of Texas hospitality... and has done so for over 60 years! Their busiest times are lunch hours during the week and breakfast/brunch hours on the weekends, but don’t let that fact keeps you from checking out the place. Having been around this long, this place knows a thing or two about running a well-oiled diner. You can expect fast, no-nonsense yet warm and attentive service from the wait staff here. The menu offers a wide variety of options – from Classic American burgers and sandwiches to Southern Cooking favorites, like Chicken & Dumplings, Chicken Fried Steak, Meatloaf and more. They have a good selection of Dinner Salads as well, with a little bit of Seafood and Tex-Mex offerings thrown in the mix. But for me personally, the real deal is on the Breakfast menu. You simply can’t go wrong choosing any of the breakfast menu items – whether you crave a simple 2-egg breakfast or hungry for the Mexican Scrambler. And of course, breakfast is served all day long! Daily specials are available every day of the week and for the sweet ending, their house-made pies are worth going off the diet for. So, the next time you crave a warm, delicious home-cooked meal that’s reasonably priced, I recommend giving the Original Market Diner a little taste.

I have wanted to eat at the omd for years but never was in the right place at the right time. I had the chance sunday and it was less than average. My "famous" hamburger as the menu notes it was marginal, precooked disaster. The piece of cold unmelted cheese on top should have been the clue to send it back. My dinning companions chicken fried steak was a garden variety frozen cutlet dropped into the deep fryer. And get this, the stuff they called mac and cheese im not sure what it was. It was like mac coated in almost burned breead curmbs. I advise you to go to Oak Cliff and eat a real Diner meal at Normas. It is the only true diner experience in dallas with kick but "original"diner food. After growing up in oak cliff I just discovered Normas a couple of years ago and cant get enough. Sorry to say Original Market Diner is a huge farce.

The Original Market Diner is a fantastic way to start a lazy Saturday! The environment is great. Its... "classic" for sure, and could use some updating, but its age gives it some great personality! You know what else has personality? The waitress with the big hair. Not sure what her name is, but shes awesome! Also, they have a rotating pie rack... oh... the rotating pie rack. The omlettes are great, and the waffle was decent. They were a little undercooked for our taste, but its nothing too major. They made up for it with bottomless coffee and amazing service. The prices were on the higher-end of average, but still ok. I paid for it. Overall, this place is great. Good for brunch and breakfast, and some good conversation!

First time walking in, its cozy like a real diner! About 10ft ceiling, very classic feel and displays up front with pies and cakes of the day. We ordered the homestyle biscuits with gravy, the market omelet and the banana bread french toast. The biscuits were perfectly flaky and crunchy on top as well as soft on the inside, and the gravy was hot and delicious. The omelet was filled with delicious fresh veggies and came with a side of hash thats perfectly golden. The French toast stole the show, however. It was thick and well done, covered lightly in snowy sugar that started melting in with a side of butter. It honestly doesnt need a lick of syrup as its already so good. Definitely, definitely, definitely recommend!

Complete waste of money and time... first and last time. I went with the chicken fried steak meal, as this should be straight forward and was recommended by workers there. The breading slid of the entire steak like it was a bad sheet on a mattress with one cut. It was completely flavorless. Other than that the meal was seriously bland. After at most 1/4th through the meal, I asked if I could be reimbursed or receive another meal another time as my appetite had been ruined. The manager told the mexican waitress that I could have a slice of apple pie to make up for my $10 dollar-ish crap meal. Good luck dealing with these people unless youre a white collared man from a high rise in downtown.

It seems that there are a lot of changes going on at what used to the the Original Market Diner. Id say it cant be called that now. It doesnt look much like a diner now. It looks more like a cafe, what with the new entrance with the pretty cabinet. CABINET? What diner has a cabinet in it? The place is loosing its charm and 50s look. Its very sad to see one of best places in Dallas change into something else. I suppose the food will remain the same but they need to rename it because its no longer a diner. Just because it has a long bar and stools doesnt make it a diner. For a great 50s drive-in complete with carhops, try the Dairyette in Dallas. They make their own root beer in an oak keg.

This "diner" somehow manages to hit the sweet spot of being dated without feeling quaint. Just dated. I had the Monte Cristo (in name only) and the chips. Worst sandwich Ive ever had, and the chips were both bland and soggy. I may have just found the perfect storm of bad things to order, however, as both the people I dined with seemed to enjoy their meals. Service was prompt, but what can only be described as snotty. Waiter was visibly put out with having to correct mistakes he had made in the order. Also, it should never take more than five minutes to pay for a meal at a cashier. Would not recommend.
