I am not an aficionado on indian food by any stretch of the imagination as I tend to steer clear based on the spicy factor (much as I do with Thai food). I have loved it when I have had it, but a lot of times my tummy does not agree, so other than naan, chicken korma, and chai, I havent expanded much of my indian cuisine palate. Thank goodness my date, who is Indian, took me here! I am honestly not sure of all that we had, but I can tell you for being a strictly-vegetarian based menu, I left full and satisfied (I am not vegetarian, but am not opposed to eating vege at all). We started with the samosas, which were so good! The tamarind sauce was exceptional! It also came with another sauce, but that was too spicy for me (I have a literal zero spice tolerance, so dont base anything I say as "spicy" as such for a regular person). We then had what I can only describe as a veggie frittata and it was delicious! I hate that I cant remember what it was called because I would order it again! It came with 3 sauces and I had two of them as the green sauce was, again, too spicy for my tastes. We also had this amazing rice dish where the cardamom flavor was deliciously prevalent and it came with this yogurts sauce that was unbelievably good! All in all a great meal! The staff was so nice and accommodating and our food came out fast and fresh. I will definitely be back when I am craving something healthy and vegetarian with flavor and this time I am writing down the names of everything for future reference!

My husband and I are very strict vegetarians originally from India and our best friends are a Jewish couple who are very strict about keeping Kosher. Where do we go when we all want to have a nice lunch or dinner together? We go to Madras Pavillion. It is so nice of Madas Pavillion to have gone through a lot of extra effort to become certified Kosher by several credible associations, and so wonderful to be culturally inclusive of more people this way. They cook with ghee as is the tradition for a lot of Indian foods but there actually are a good number of vegan selections, simply ask what is vegan, I would think one could eat here as a vegan and simply order the vegan options and be quite happy because all of the food is delicious and very authentic. More South than North which is actually quite nice because most Indian restaurants in town are Northern style even when they advertise that they have South. So so good and for all of you who are not vegetarian (restaurant 100% vegetarian!) or dont keep Kosher... I am quite sure you will like it too, it is really fantastic! A little bit expensive but only a little bit and for the quality and everybody being happy it is worth it.

I am giving 1 start as I can not go for any lesser. I have been to this place earlier and that time server asked me if I want to order from menu or Take dosa party special(two dosa of any kind and buffet). As Madras pavilion being south indian veg. place I choose the dosa party special, they took too long to get the dosa we ordered then the food in buffet was way below my expectation. only food i liked there was rasam. but apart from that I thought this as a waste of money and will not visit again..... So day before yesterday I was in area and hungry so I though of giving another try. This time my wife ordered "Assorted Hor Doeuvers" which was total fail out of all only medu wada was good and she knows south indian food as she is from south. I ordered a north indian thali that was biggest fail I felt like why the hell you guys even call this a north indian thali? all curries in ther were south indian they even had toran in there. out of 7-8 curries only palak paneer and veg korma looks like north indian. on top of that taste was not that good. I also ordered a naan it was so full of oil as if it was not baked and fried.

As always, we drove off on a typical "date Friday" without any idea as to where to go. We decided to skip Selma and have dinner instead and Im so glad we did because this is by far THE best Indian food Ive ever had. At first we were a bit concerned since we were the only ones in the restaurant but opted to give it a shot. Paging through the menu we didnt know what to order and finally agreed on the 5 Course Dinner for Two which includes: mulligatawny soup, vegetable cutlets, masala dosai with sambar and chutney crepe, sag paneer curry, vegeetable curry of the day, tadaka dal curry, specialty rice vegetable pulav, naan, and rasmalai for dessert. By the main (4th) course neither of us could finish chewing and we asked for a box (we ended up needing two!). We did accept the fifth course because of course theres always room for dessert. My only regret was not taking my camera phone with me to document every moment of this heavenly experience!

I am a fussy South Indian vegetarian and very few so-called Indian vegetarian restaurants impress me. I ate South Indian food in a number of states, and very few measure up to my personal standards. Madras Pavilion is one of those few. I get the food I like exactly as I like it, catering both to my tastes and my quirks. The service is commendable, and the staff go the extra mile to accommodate special requirements, always with a smile on their face. No complaints from them even when the customers are unreasonable. They love children and make sure the kids get what they want, including lollipops. My grandkids know where exactly the lollipops are kept and, as we enter the restaurant, they go straight for that jar from where we have to wrench them so they eat their food first. Suffice it to say that Madras Pavilion is the ONLY restaurant I go to in Austin among eateries of all stripes. I am completely won over. Kudos to Madras Pavilion.

Four of us got the dinner for 4, and what a feast it was. I eat a lot of food (like twice any normal man) and I was stuffed. The waiter was friendly. Theres lots of good food for vegans or vegetarians. It started with what I think were papadum with two sauces. Ive never had papadum like this. This had a delicate balance between very soft and very crispy. It sounds contradictory, but thats how it was. Then came three main courses: spinach paneer, eggplant paneer, and something with chickpeas and naan and rice. I told the waiter I was vegan (the rest of my party wasnt), and he got me some vegan substitutes for the paneer dishes, and roti for the bread. It was all very delicious. For dessert, I got some sort of sweet mango rice pudding with cardamon and the others got some kind of milk pudding. Quite a fine conclusion to the meal. Pretty inexpensive for what you get.

Simply Terrible! We went for dinner, and I went after almost 8 years and I should not have ventured into it. The place is such a mess and Gives Indians a bad name, Food should be a experience, the food - Dinner was just terrible, and not even reflect rich heritage and variety of Indian food South India has to offer. Dosas were cold, Idli was hard and smelling of Soda ( that leavens it), Kulfi and dessert was just worst --- I do not think an Indian Pet would eat it....... I am just disappointed, that the restaurant owners hire random people and do not invest into the business....neither the food/experience nor the ambiance... so it may server cheap food on lunch buffet--but certainly not reflective of Rich Indian Cuisine... and I will never ..never...never go there even if they offer me free meals.
