I eat a lot of mexican food in orange county (and mexico) and am rarely disappointed. Jalapenos was one of those times however. The first thing I noticed was how expensive everything was; $2.60 for one tiny POTATO taco. Something like that is usually under $1.50. But despite that, I thought ok, maybe this is some gourmet specialty place like Taco Mesa. Nope. The menu is actually quite limited (the menu online is NOTHING like the actual menu they offer.) Everything I ordered was literally the cheapest most basic version of mexican-ish elements. Stale, super thick tortilla chips, iceberg lettuce, grocery store (melted then congealed) shredded cheese, guacamole that seemed to have no seasoning, and some similarly disappointing refried beans. The asada was OK, but my goodness does it pale in comparison to any other asada, even in Tustin. Jalapenos may have all the main ingredients for mexican dishes, but they are all certainly low quality, and it is glaringly obvious that no work, creativity, or even seasonings go into the food. I really must believe that the positive reviews here are people who either have not had proper mexican food, or just prefer americanized, bland, faux mexican. Do yourself a favor and drive 4 minutes away and go to Hole Mole or Tacos El Carbon.

If you are in a hurry, skip it if there is a line. I waited for over thirty minutes for a pound of carnitas. Three people ahead of me waiting for orders. The rest had ordered over the phone. Guy taking orders was on the phone taking an order instead of checking out the two people in front of me. Understaffed, they should have one person doing phone orders, one person helping counter customers. I nearly missed my bus because it took eight minutes to even placement order. Thirty minutes to put already cooked meat in a to go box was too long. I finally had to ask if they were making it. Then the staff was rude, "hurry, hurry, its an EMERGENCY!" They said to each other. Salsa cups hold 1/8 cup each. Too small for marinated carrots. Carnitas were cooked great but not worth the wait. Food tastes good, typical of Americanized Mexican food. Good but not overly spiced. Carne Asada is usually slightly dried out. Still good though. They use a the Five Stars app which is a great perk.

Have you ever been to Jalapenos? I have. Probably about 100 times and I hope to go at least 100 more times. Its my go to mexican joint and i always get 3 al pastor crispy tacos. i dont know what they do here, but I have tried al pastor at dozens of other joints and this place rules the roost. The homemade chips are also killer even though they cost $.50 per bag (boo! they used to be free!). Everything else is really good (long live tortas!) and this place is always busy with locals and popular for families after baseball games. Some may say it is a little pricey but I would counter saying that the quality merits the price. It can get a little slow but thats not the kitchen, its the long line of customers slowing it down! Arriba!

I ordered a burrito, it had everything you would expect to find in a burrito...except guacamole... which supprised me because a huge bowl of guacamole stood in the kitchen. I also ordered some nachos which were chips, cheese, beans, dry chicken, a blob of sour cream, and guacamole. Yes this is what you would expect to find on nachos but the cheese was cold and caked together, and everything else looked as if it was thrown on there. Now Im not picky person when it comes to presentation but this was not good.

La comida muy rica. Pero hoy tuve la mala experiencia de hablar por teléfono para hacer un pedido y me pusieron en espera lo cual no tengo ningun problema con eso. Nunca volvio a contestar y cuando llegue estaba entretenida con el celular.

The guy who was bringing the food to the tables was also cleaning the tables and throwing away the trash. While waiting in line to order, we watched him stick his hands in the trash can then grabbed the next plate to be delivered to a table. Not only did he not wash his hands before grabbing the plate, he then placed his hand on top of the customers burrito and served it to the customer. We left without ordering and will NOT return!

I went to try out the food in jalapenos and I love mexican food but after I ordered one torta asada, one asada borrito, and a small drink for almost 19.00.i was expecting something good but when the food showed up it look like small taco size boritto and the torta was small also with no side . It was the worse place ever , also food was really bad next time im going to go to albertos , they know what real food is

Best Mexican food restaurant by far in southern California. When you grow up eating authentic Mexican food made by your grandma..its hard to compete. Jalapenos comes through. Ive eaten at their Tustin store for years but now at their Orange store in old town Orange. Excellent service.delicious food. Worth paying extra. Anyone who gives this place a poor review doesnt know Mexican food.

This place is perfect to get if you want to order from a delivery service. I ordered Jalapeños from DoorDash and it was great. The food is good but not too pricey to where you feel bad for getting it delivered. My girlfriend loved the chicken tacos and I was thoroughly satisfied with my steak burrito. I am sure we will order it again the next time we Netflix and chill.

Good food but poor customer service. I called ahead to order to go and they put me on hold. After 9 minutes of driving I arrived, found the restaurant not busy at all and me still on hold, and the girl and other workers chatting right there. So disappointed by this restaurant yet their food is always so good.

Nothing terribly special about this place. The shrimp burrito was a little dry, and really needed addition of guacamole and sour cream (to be fair, I asked for it without tomato, onion, or beans). The chicken quesadilla was too greasy. The salsa was not at all tasty.

I have good memories here of eating for brunch with my person before going to work. It has always felt like home to me. I will have their huevos rancheros everyday. Their portion is also really decent. We sometimes share just one plate and still get full.

A lot of people absolutely love this place and yet I have always found the food to be lacking a bit in flavor. Other than that I love it here. But I never particularly crave eating here due to the lack of flavor.

Reliably delicious Mexican food at reasonable prices for the quality. Ive eaten here hundreds of times over 20 years. Try the crisp chicken tacos, Jalepeno Tostada, or burrito with your favorite meat.

Decent food, just dont go during peak hours (no parking) or within an hour of closing (they will mess up your order because they start closing early).
