I like the premise of the restaurant. But the small portions (especially rib tips) and basic BBQ sauce flavors werent impressive. Menu: Not enough items. I understand though that they just opened. I felt meal options were missing. A "Build your own" would be great. Maybe a brisket, pulled pork and chicken sandwich on buttered Texas toast with a side of slaw and fries or corn. The key item missing was the hot link. In all of the Q restaurants Ive patronized, this is the first without the iconic hotlink. (Also missing the mustard Q to go with it.) Sauce: Great sauce. Hard to get right but not there yet. The brown sugar/molasses was too prominent. Not enough spice. Atmosphere: The iPad or whatever playing music was a good touch. Again. I understand just opening. Other than that it was great. Waitress: Great experience. The most important aspect of a good Waitress is their attention to the cup. My cup never went empty. Regardless of what Im drinking, I often find that Im left without at most establishments. Not the case here. Location: Decent location on the golf course. Interested in the winter view. May be difficult to find if you arent a local. Overall I would recommend. As this establishment is new to the area (from what Ive heard). Theyll only get better with time. If I remember correctly, they have alcohol now as well. Not that its important. Nevertheless, promising local business. Excited that travel to a BBQ restaurant is so short now. Would go again. But cant seem to get home before they close. :-)

I have been a fan ever since I saw them on Chicagos Best TV in 2014 and went to the original 3 table storefront at the other end of the block, with owner Porkchop doing all the smoking on the original "Betty" out back and owner Katie handling the customers. Today I visited the soft opening of their 3rd location in downtown Sandwich. I also frequent the Montgomery location at the Grays Mill. They have a great crew at every location. This location is always a favorite, being the original concept of what Porkchop invisioned. Fast casual with a huge craft beer menu, delicious sides and the finest smoked meats you can find in Chicagoland. The owners and staff make your visit memorable and be sure to take a stroll through and gaze at all of Porkchops eclectic treasures. An arcade and pool tables are connected to the restaurant too. I recommend a Redneck Reuben with smoked mac n cheese. You must bring a friend and request a sampler platter. It contains all the meats, a half slab of ribs and 4 sides. The corned beef burnt ends make a great starter. The pulled pork is what put them on the map, so get some pilled on an order of nachos or a top a BBQ sundae. If you like it hot... ask for some Nitro sauce! Honestly the meats stand on its own, which many consider the true definition of real bbq.

I had been hearing stories about the new BBQ place in Hinckley from my fellow Windy City Soaring Glider Pilots at Hinckley Airfield. So, I stopped in on my way home one Saturday with a friend who had joined me for a glider flight. WOW! That Harlan (he says to call him Pork Chop) sure can cook some mean BBQ. I ate one of the tastiest pulled pork sandwiches of my life and my friend had an equally excellent brisket sandwich. Dont miss the burnt ends (if they have any left - they run out every day). The price was more than a bargain, the quantity of food is outstanding, and Pork Chop and his whole family are eager to serve as well as chat it up about BBQ and or anything else. I was so impressed, I brought home a slab of the ribs for dinner to share the experience with my wife. Friendly People & Top Notch BBQ - What more could anyone want? TIP : If you want ribs or burnt ends for dinner or even late lunch, call in early and reserve them or get there early to pick them up. Pork Chop told me he cooks all night long but can only make so much food on the smoker. Great meat like his takes time to cook - so... When its gone, it is gone! Dont miss this spot. It Rocks!

Please read! I went to starved rock and this was a little out of my way home so i wanted to try. The place is awesome cooler then portillos perfect for any action figure, lunchbox, movie artifact, and old school arcade games. The food now is the most important the food i for the brisket and fries they were hot but not piping hot. I put the sweat heat on my sandwich and it was the best BBQ sauce i ever tried. Wanted to try the burnt tips but it became very busy so i didnt want to wait in line again and i wanted to buy a jar of BBQ. As i walk out around the building there is a carry out door to pick up food at i learned my lesson just ask. Will go back for sure and prepared to bring home seconds and groceries.

I went here for my birthday and I guess its safe to say I had a sample of almost every meat they serve there. It was very delicious, the meat was cooked wonderfully and the sauces were pretty amazing themselves. The staff are very friendly and even offered free desert which I didnt even know about. Amazing place, amazing people, and amazing food. I will surely go back even though it is a slight bit of a drive out of town from me.

The food here was well worth the 120 mile round trip. I got the ribs and the brisket sandwich. The ribs were flavorful AND meaty. Most BBQ joints dont have meaty ribs but South Moon does. The brisket sandwich was nice and moist and delicious. If you like a smidge of kick to your food go with the Sweet Heat. You can put that sauce on a sweat sock and it would taste good. OMGWTFBBQ! Winner!!!

BBQ is authentic! Never dry, always moist and flavorful! We have the Burnt Ends, brisket, pulled pork, slab of ribs, beans, kick your mother in the mouth potato salad, fries, and pork chop. We love all the sandwiches with their combination of meats. There is one sandwich that has it all on it. It is huge but delicious! Big enough to share for sure! You have to give this place a try.

South Moon, its owners-Katie & Harlan-and its staff were AWESOME! Our church, English Congregational UCC, had their fund raiser at the restaurant this year and we didnt do too badly. The food was EXCELLENT, as always and their choices of craft beers is OUTSTANDING! We hope to do this again next year, thank you SOUTH MOON!!!

South Moon has amazing food, Ive been eating their BBQ for a long time, and their catering is awesome - Ive used them at two parties and they are accommodating and everyone raves about the food. Try the burnt ends and buffalo bones, but you cant go wrong with anything they make. Worth the trip to Hinckley!

Stopped today on my way through town. I got the Chuck Norris to try everything. Most disappointed in the Sausage and Chicken. Sausage skin was very tough to chew through and Chicken was dry and mealy. Brisket and Pulled Pork were pretty good along with the choice of bread. Sauce flavors were good.
