The Perfect Storm of Terrible Food, Service, and Decor. A friend of mine who lives in Westlake Hills recommended we go to this place last week. In short, the food is absolutely terrible and here is why. PROS -I thought it was the only Chinese restaurant in the area (Update: until I discovered "Chinatown" restaurant less than a few blocks down beecaves! Food at Chinatown is actually my favorite Chinese restaurant in Austin) CONS -The interior is rundown and the place has a strange smell (that put my party off of their food) -The staff are rude, unfriendly, and inattentive -Everything comes with "brown sauce" and so different dishes blend into one another and taste too similar -The fried items taste really dry as they are over cooked -The rice was soggy (cant even get rice right??) Once I told my friend about how terrible I thought this place was, he agreed that he only liked it because he thought it was convenient. I would definitely not go back and would not be surprised if their food is unsanitary. If the dining room is anything to go by, I wouldnt be surprised if this is reflective of how they handle their food.

Yes, I am giving them a 5 star because I ordered the Chicken and Fish with vegetables at lunchtime and it was "the best ever"!! Seriously! Lots of chicken and shrimp! "Fresh, big pieces of shrimp too! The sauce was not over whelming or too much garlic. I may have visited at a good time, who knows. Last time we went here I loved it also! We have been trying Chinese restaurants, or similar types around Austin and I am always leery about ordering shrimp because its fishy tasting. Chicken is always chewy, rubbery. At Lotus Hunan the Fish and shrimp were so fresh tasting! It should NOT taste fishy, and THAT is why people hate fish. While eating I told my husband, "I have to tell them how much I loved my lunch! I highly recommend it. Pricing is reasonable, good amount of food! (I finished mine which is unusual. I take it home! Was full all day!)

This was a great local spot with awesome food. However, over the last year the locals having been complaining with the restaurants inability to serve lunch one minute past 259pm. You would think if you had been coming to the restaurant for almost five years that they would go the extra mile for a regular. However I am starting to realize that this place runs its business closest to the dollar I hope the quality of the food is not next! Lets get real here this restaurant is setup strictly for its lunch special. I would never take a date here for dinner the carpet has never been cleaned, the booths have holes, ceiling tiles have water stains, the wood chairs are black with dirt and the decor is dated. I will take my business to 1st Wok which is a few miles down the street with awesome food!

Not sure why my experience is so different than many reviewers, but Ugh! My first visit at lunch today; ordered garlic beef with fried rice, hot & sour soup and an eggroll. The eggroll was the only edible portion of the meal. The soup was bland; it appeared to be a multi-purpose soup - add wontons for wonton soup, add egg for eggdrop soup - you get the picture. The garlic beef was so salty I could not eat more than a few bites. The fried rice appeared to be plain brown rice; I asked the server to be sure, and she reassured me it was indeed fried rice. I was career military, so I can eat just about anything (cast iron stomach) - except this stuff! You would be better served taking your lunch money and going ANYWHERE else but here.

Ive lived in San Francisco, L.A., San Diego and China and have eaten at hundreds of Chinese restaurants. Lotus Hunan is the real deal -- only place in Austin Ive found that rivals Californias near-China quality. Egg rolls and pot stickers are must-do appetizers. Sesame and Kung Pao Chicken are excellent. Hot and Sour soup is very authentic. Kids like the blander chicken fried rice and sweet and sour chicken. We live in Lakeway and drive there at least twice a month. Lori, Cindy, Tony and Ray are so hospitable. The do delivery, but alas, not into Lakeway. Its also a big place so you can generally get seated immediately. Tell them Greg and Pam sent you.

By far the best Chinese restaurant in Austin and a must go for anyone in town! I have been going here for 15 years and cannot recommend it enough. The Sesame Shrimp is outstanding and easily one of my all-time favorite dishes from any restaurant. The Vo family that owns and runs the restaurant are also some of the nicest people you will ever meet, and provide top-notch service. They are also great at getting your food to you quickly even if it is crowded, so dont hesitate to come even if youre in a bit of a time crunch.

Lotus Hunan is pretty much the definition of a classic Chinese restaurant. If youre in the mood for a lunch menu with fried rice or "traditional" dishes like Kung Pao Chicken, Mongolian Beef or Vegetable Lo Mein, this is your place. I came here for lunch during work and was seated promptly, the waitress was excellent and the food arrived quickly. Even though Id never been to Lotus Hunan before, everything immediately feels familiar for someone whos had a Chinese take-out restaurant.

Such an amazing place to eat. I have been coming here for years and order the same dish every time the beef delight, no mushrooms, no snow peas, Chinese cabbage, extra water chestnuts = amazingness. Plus the staff is super friendly and managed by a great group of brothers I believe. There are very few non chain restaurants like this in town that have a very low turn over in staff actually I have never seen a new staff which is what makes it so consistent!

If you want traditional Chinese food done the right way, Lotus Hunan is the place to go in Austin. The staff are friendly and efficient, the environment is comfortable but suitable for business meetings or more formal lunches, and Ive always been more than satisfied with the food. In particular the lunch menu is an amazing value, with egg rolls, wontons, and choice of soups, plus portions still more than large enough to satisfy. I love this place!

I havent tried this place BECAUSE... on their website it says $15 minimum order and $3 for delivery...ok fine. I call up to order and the guy says :$20 minimum order and $4 delivery fee... NO THANKS... So basically: YOU DONT WANT TO DELIVER (message being sent to your potential customer). I just moved to the area and would have had $30 worth of food delivered 2-3 times a month for the year....but now not so much.

If you love a great hole in the wall with great food, you have to try Lotus Hunan. The food is delicious, with good cuts of meat, tasty sauces, and a nice variety on the menu. The service is also really wonderful - its family owned and run (by the Vos), and they make you feel like family. My favorite restaurant!

The waitstaff was so sassy! I liked it. Your typical chinese lunch special fare. I had the Buddha delight and asked for it spicey - it was perfectly fine. The sauce they serve with the egg rolls was pretty great, however. Good price if youre wanting a good Chinese-American lunch but nothing crazy special.
