I was introduced to this place by Scotty G because this was his go to when he used to live nearby, but we have since made 3 1hr round trips from the Eastside when we get cravings. The orange peel chicken, General Tso chicken (both w/fried rice), potstickers, and cheese rangoons are where its at here and I cannot attest to anything else on the menu because that is literally our order EVERY SINGLE TIME. I have always been baffled that I have not been able to find a decent go to take-out chinese place in ATX, but this place is always consistently good and they give you enough of a generous portion size that you can make two meals out of each chicken dish! The usual MO is to call in our order enroute and it is ready and waiting piping hot when we get there, so it is always a quick in and out. When placing food orders, the staff is always quick, courteous, and our order is always correct. Now if I can just convince them to open a location closer to the Eastside or Arboretum area so our visits arent so tri-monthly!

I only ordered from here once and I may do it again since the food was delicious and this area is in dire need of good chinese food. I ordered the Beef Bulgogi because of everyones recommendation here on Yelp. Aside from that, I ordered a Basil Shrimp and an order of potstickers. I was very content with the food, the portions are generous that two people could eat and still have leftovers for the next day. The Beef Bulgogi is sweet, which is a little different than that I am used to. The shrimp was large and plentiful in the order. Potstickers are average. I wouldnt call their food here authentic, but its delicious and when Im craving Asian food and dont want to drive far, I definitely will order from here. Ill try a few other things and come back to update this review. One of the things I really want to try is Shrimp and Eggplant :)

I have ordered from Hunan many times and I love their food but lately I have been receiving poor service. My boyfriend ordered lunch today about an hour before my lunch break. When I got home, the food still hadnt arrived. He called and they said they had the wrong address. My boyfriend had updated them with the address when he called in the order but they must not have updated it in their system. The they said it was being packaged up but by that time, it had been almost 2 hours since the order and I had to head back to work. The driver called from 620 because he didnt know where he was going and when the food arrived, the edamame was already cold and my order was incorrect. I love their food so I am now eating it for dinner but I hope the service improves and I can rely on them to deliver in a decent amount of time again.

This is my favorite Chinese place in Austin. Fried rice is awesome. The sauces are super flavorful. I also love that I always get high quality meat. So many places you order seasame chicken or something like that and in half the pieces you cant find the chicken or its fatty scraps. I get the orange chicken and its always chunks of good white meat. Its mostly a take out place, but the food is better than any high end sit down Chinese place in town. Oh, and as different as this may seem, the Buffalo wigs are ridiculous!! I know, its a Chinese food place. But let me tell you if you like Pluckers go here and get what is called their OMG wings. The sauce is kind of like a sesame chicken sauce (but no seasames). Love this place !!!!!

Im no Chinese food expert, but Ive been here twice in the last two weeks and loved it both times. I went at noon for lunch and there was a line but it moved quickly. You just order your food at the register and sit down and they bring it out to you. Not a huge place but people eat and go, so you can usually get a seat, outside if nothing else. Service was pretty quick, and the employees were friendly and remembered me the next time I went. For $6-7 you can get the lunch combo which is a great deal IMO. Fast & cheap, great for a quick lunch break. I also got takeout for dinner one night and the guy was very nice and packaged things with extra cardboard and such to prevent liquids from tipping over and spilling. Will keep going back!

I eat here ALOT. The food is always fresh and hot. Delivery is always on time or faster. The employees are all pretty friendly for the most part (one guy always sounds like the saddest man on earth, he needs a hug I think). My only complaint would be that their food is always different. Ive tried 5 of the entrees, most of which a couple times. The first time I ordered it would be really good, then the second time it would just taste kind of different. So thats kind of frustrating when you find something you like, since it will basically never taste that way again. But, its always close and still good. If youre looking for recommendations, I personally like the Beijing beef. Also the General Taos is pretty good.

While the food here has been decent, the service (especially with delivery) is very unreliable. If I were to base this review on food alone, I would give it three to three and a half stars. On service, I would go less than one. Generally, we are diners that order our food in. On multiple occasions Hunan River Place has had errors, and until tonight, were willing to correct them. Tonight they completely omitted one entree from our order, and refused to send it back out without charging me again. The manager was polite, yet obstinate in his refusal to make right a situation that one of his staff perpetrated. I will no longer be indulging in this establishments services.

We were impressed with the food the first few times we ordered from this place. But of late the quality seems to have gone down a lot. Weve received General Tsos chicken where the sauce was clear and tasted of nothing, dishes that looked like a soup because the sauce was thin and excessive, etc. The last time we ordered for dinner, I spend the following morning (from about 2AM on) in the bathroom. Never again. Also, Google requires that I choose some rating for "Decor" even though weve only ever had delivery. Please disregard that value.

Ive been to Hunan River place a couple of times and have always been satisfied with how much portion you get for the price (especially the lunch menu). Its a small place but even after I order and sit down I still am checked on every once in a while, which surprises me for a place that looks like they have more take out orders than anything else. I usually get the sesame chicken and potstickers. Great portions, I always leave full, with left overs, and satisfied. :) Its also clean and has friendly staff!

Went here for lunch, it can get crowded. There is a good parking lot so that makes the lunch crowd a little easier to navigate. The food is okay, I got the Double Pan Fried Noodles and some eggrolls. The eggrolls are more veggie no meat even if it is a pork eggroll. The fried rice was okay as well. The food is a little pricey unless you stick to the Lunch Menu. Nothing stands out here.
