As with all reviews you are taking a snapshot in time of a restaurant that is always changing; almost like art. In fact it is art and more so when it comes to sushi. If you had a completely miserable experience, you will have a bad review; however, when it comes to certain restaurants (i.e sushi) you need to remain open minded of the entire experience. The same goes for art. Sushi=art and not all types of art are for everyone. Now to the gritty: service was allstar; thanks Jennifer. Calamari needs to defrost fully before frying; I had a few pieces that were chewy. Spider roll was off and had mixed heat and cool throughout; however, even though the Susan roll had just a tad too much batter before frying, it was still excellent. All sauces were spot on, including the wasabi. In summary a great downtown sushi spot with an open atmosphere, and as with all sushi, you need to find which ones are for your pallette as each restaurant does things just a little different. Solid 4 stars!

Definitely one of, if not the best sushi restaurant in Columbia! The service is top notch, the music that is played compliments the atmosphere and is typically excellent music you have not heard before. The bartenders are some of the best, friendly and always willing to go out of their way for you. Now the most important part, the food. The sushi roll choices are fantastic with hidden gems. Some rolls you have heard of, and others are new to the eyes. My favorite is the Crazy Susan, Unforgettable and Cucumber Salad Roll. For a starter I have to recommend the Tempura Asparagus (absolutely fantastic). If you dont desire Sushi, try the Fish Tacos (get crispy shell with the Pan-seared Tilapia). Last but not least, the happy hour specials are quite a deal so make sure you give this place a try, I am certain you will love it!

Takosushi is by far one of my favorite restaurants in Downtown Columbia. It is a modern fusion of Mexican and Asian cuisine. Therefore, you can get a sushi roll and a burrito in one sitting! My favorite is the Firecracker Shrimp (served with white rice and an Asian salad), but I also love the Crazy Susan Roll! The only downside to Takosushi is narrowing down what to order - there are so many delicious dishes to choose from. All of the appetizers are incredible too - especially the pot stickers and tempura asparagus! However, this is another one of those restaurants that you need to arrive early if visiting during lunch M-F. Anytime after 11:45, there will be a wait for your table and food.

Great combo of Mexican and Japanese. Our server was on point with service. Margot was her name I think...but she is the epitome of first class service. We had drink refills right as the glasses were empty and we didnt have dirty plates on our table for more than 2 seconds. Very observant and made sure I was well taken care of. The sushi is good. Its similar to other sushi but has a few twists and restaurant specialties. I recommend it for sure. I didnt have anything else other than a top shelf margarita (which was awesome and not watered down). Its a very hip spot as I notice I increased the average age of the customers in there by about four years. Will visit again

very average sushi, zero difference from what you can get at the grocery store. my plate came without wasabi or ginger, they were out of several beers on the menu, "the saki machine" was broken, whatever that means and the saki tasted like soap, the place is loud AF, the server was nice and cute, but never asked i wanted another beer, or if i wanted water, the prices for all this are too high. BUT young people want a hip-looking place, and thats what this is. ive eaten at this place many times over the years, and it keeps getting worse. last night was my last visit. oh, and the menus look cool and design-ey but its difficult to navigate. sayonara and adios takosushi!

Ive been to Tako Sushi two times at the time of my writing this review, and both the times the food was excellent. Great taste, hot when it hits the table, and very well presented. However, on both occasions the service was somewhat lacking. Slow on refills, didnt really check up on as at all (one the second time there we actually wanted to order more food but didnt see the server again until he brought the check) and the food was a little late. Overall I would recommend coming and eating here, but be mindful of some of the servers.

When the office lunch crew cannot decide on a place to grab lunch I suggest Takosushi for the eclectic menu options. A little mexican. A little sushi. Be sure to look over the menu online before heading over. My typical order: bean & queso dip with chips and a bento box for lunch. Weird combination, but it works. The food is good and is prepared quickly. Service is typically really good. The lunch crowd does not overcrowd the restaurant, but the dinner/happy hour crowds take over. Not the cheapest place to grab lunch.

This was quite an experience. It was pretty confusing at first: Should we order an entree like a traditional restaurant, or share a lot of small plates? Luckily, we had some guidance from our companions who were sophisticated in the ways of Takosushi. It was an adventure, almost too much to handle. If youre looking for a laid back safe traditional experience, go elsewhere. Ordering requires focus and decisions. The food was delicious and exciting, and the service was exceptional.

Been there twice. Last time I got the green chili shrimp tako. The menu indicates the dish comes with ranch style beans and spicy slaw. The beans were really bland. And there was no slaw on my plate - spicy or otherwise. Instead, there was some lettuce and a few pieces of tomatoes. However, the shrimp was well cooked and tasty, the only thing on my plate that tasted decent. I have not tasted the "sushi" part of the menu but the mexican part is pretty bland and very good.

I really like this place. When Im in town, I visit this place. Ive been coming here since 2010. I think the food is good and the people are professional and friendly. I mean, no youre not in Japan near the ocean or in Mexico where the cooking pours out their soul, but for where this place is located, the food is fresh and delicious. But dont just take my word for it! Check it out and decide for yourself. ...oh and yes it can be a bit pricey. But it feels fair to me.

Love this place. Stand alone restaurant with decent amount of free parking around back. Some street parking as well right in front. Great happy-hour specials, so if you are there before 630pm be sure to ask about those. Their tempura asparagus appetizer is fantastic, a must have. Great cocktails and drinks. Sushi always fresh and delicious. Tacos also superb. When you cant decide between sushi and Mexican cuisine - this is the place. Have some of both!

I actually love this place but today Im upset. I walked in a little before 930pm and I was ready to eat the server said they were already closed. They have no operation hours in the door and come to find out they were not closed. I Google the time and went back inside a different server said they were closing early because it was slow .. FYI you dont turn customers away during business hours... Poor customer service
