Good: the restaurant was spacious and clean. The dirty queso was good. They have multiple tvs to watch sports game. Seemed like a good environment to bring family/groups. They have Modelo and Tecate. Not so good/bad: customer service is lacking. The female server took our appetizer order and then didnt come back to take our entree orders until after a food runner already brought our app and we ate it all. I ordered a Patron pomegranate margarita and what i got was rail and was watered down. My boyfriend ordered a Long Island and his drink was watered down too and tasted like it only had a splash tequila. So for our next round we ordered beers. I was not brought the beer that i ordered but i still drank it because i havent found many places that sell Modelo so i didnt say anything especially since i was more anxious about getting our tacos. We ordered the pulled pork, chicken pesto, peruvian shrimp, and fish tacos.... the only tacos that we liked was the fish taco. We werent impressed by any of the other tacos because they were either dry/lacked seasoning or cold. We didnt even bother ordering dessert. In the end i ended up wrapping up my tacos with only one bite in each of them and we went to another establishment to eat and drink for the rest of the night. I would suggest going to an authentic family owned Mexican restaurant if you want real Tex-Mex food, which we did the next day.

My fiancee and I enjoyed a casual dinner on their outdoor patio last night. We loved everything. Dont be intimidated by the upscale looking exterior... the prices are inexpensive. I love the fact that you order everything a la carte so you can get a great variety of exactly what you want and nothing you dont want. I view this as the future of dining. Gone are the days of massive portions with lackluster sides and high prices. You can have as much or as little as you want here, spend as little or as much as you want. We split guac and chips and each of us got two tacos with a different filling (brisket ( out of this world), tilapia (hit the spot), shrimp (sweet and tasty). Not to mention they have about 9 other varieties of tacos we are dying to go back and try in addition to enchiladas, quesadillas, salads and sides (we are going back soon for the jalapeno coleslaw). Their margaritas looked amazing and again you can customize them by choosing from a handful of different tequilas at different price points. Go with a bunch of friends, you wont be disappointed.

Worst Bang for the Buck? I went to Cantina 76 for the first time and it was absolutely terrible. After looking at the Free Times "Best of Columbia" and seeing that it was listed as runner up for Best Bang for the Buck, I decided to give it a try. However, when I saw the menu, I was surprised to see that the food was not cheap at all- one dinky little soft taco was $2.99. An enchilada that was barely bigger was $3.79. Not to mention that the chips and salsa were also $3.49, and all I got was a miniature, barely even full 4 oz. cup of salsa. I ordered a Ground Beef Enchilada with red sauce, and it was not delicious. The sauce tasted like cheap barbecue. Also, I ordered a side of mexican rice for $1.99, and I got another 4 oz cup, this time with dry, tasteless rice and what looked to be freezer veggies. The restaurant and staff were nice, if a little slow, but the food and value was not to par. I would not recommend this place to anyone; it is surely a disappointment.

Looks can be deceiving as I imagined Cantina to be a slightly more upscale place than it turned out to be---but thats not bad. The food was average. I think that San Jose is still better if looking for Americanized Mexican.; however, the service was below average. The server forgot my beer, my enchilada was "burned" by the head chef so that the second one came out after my three other friends were finished eating and the cheese was not even melted inside (I did have a taco to get by in the meantime). Then, it took a very long time to get our checks. The server was very friendly though and did comp my enchilada which was the right thing to do. All in all, I may give it a second chance but not running to...but see for yourself !

Nice clean restaurant, great atmosphere and good service. The food is great and reasonable priced. You order unique tacos, enchiladas, quesadillas, etc a la carde. You can get the tortilla flour or corn are a hard shell. Very unique flavors, great for adventurous eaters. The hamburger meat was a little too sweet for me, I wasnt impressed with it, but every thing else was great. Chips were delicious, they gave us a to go bag of chips and they were amazing the next day! The queso and gaucomole was great. My husband had the enchiladas and wasnt impressed with the sweet tasting hamburger and the very thin tortillas he got, but he loved the queso they were smothered in. Good food for a date night or a group of friends!

The specialty tacos are bursting with unique flavor, and are very well-priced. (Lunch special: 2 gourmet tacos & a side for $7. Perfectly priced and sized for a lunch that wont make you sleepy at your desk.) If you go (and I think you should!), remember this: If you cannot see the fireplace hearth from your seat, then youre sitting pretty much inside the kitchen, and will have your meal ruined by clattering dishes and the chitter-chatter of the employees. And youll be seated (basically) at the bathroom doors. Oh, and if you show up at the moment they open the doors for lunch, expect to get scowled at by the waitresses for being "too early". Other than that, I really enjoyed this place!

I would not say Cantina 76 is Mexican food nor would I call it Tex Mex but nonetheless the peruvian shrimp tacos were pretty good, the other items we ordered were just average in taste and appearance. The items we ordered: chips n salsa Peruvian shrimp taco bbq brisket taco beef enchilada No standard free chips n salsa while waiting for your order to arrive, you can purchase the items, which we ended up doing. The beef enchilada we ended up sharing and both found it to be ok the same can be said for the bbq brisket taco.. The dining area is rather large and we opted to sit beside the fireplace on the chilly day we visited. Its clean and the staff were all pleasant.

The place obviously caters to liberal college students with its big-screen televisions blasting MSNBC cable propaganda. That said, the food was good but the service was ho-hum. Obviously the young woman had interest somewhere else and made the moves but lacked any personality. Also, the deal on house wine was not available on Cabernet (I found out from the bill, not from the mind-somewhere-else waitress) and the glass was lite-sized. Instead of the $5, take the Margareta special. The parking was terrible. Folks in the neighborhood could make a nice income charging $5 to park on their lawn. Count me in.

When I moved to Columbia I was thrilled to find a Mexican restaurant that serves something other than the usual greasy slop, and their half price happy hour margaritas are delicious! But twice when I have been with coworkers we order margaritas, the first two are perfect, and after that its all sour mix. When I mentioned it to the waitress she tried to tell us that they were all premixed the same, as if after two small margaritas we are so wasted we cant taste the difference! Im not sure what their motive is, but its a very poor business practice! And rude!
