Im going to be honest.. I rarely leave reviews for restaurants, positive or negative, and thats a shame and something I need to work on, so, this is a warranted starting point. During a recent conference in Downtown Columbia I took the family to this restaurant around noon on a Saturday. I really should have walked back out after going in but, as they say, dont judge a book. Really, Ive been into cleaner gas station restrooms. No, thats not an embellishment but is quite literal. Ceiling tiles looked to fall down at a moments notice, clothing was sticking to the seats and getting caught in the torn benches, there was an odd carnival type of smell in the air, and the place appeared to have been last cleaned in 1976. Speaking of restrooms. I really dont have the words adequate enough to describe their condition. I actually challenged my boys to visit the room to make a light hearted game of it. The toilet was flushable if you pushed inward on the handle, quite forcibly. Although, it really didnt matter as most people didnt know it could be done and therefore left their beans and rice on display for all. Im estimating a number of users prior but, I didnt stand around to linger. The food... I had read the other reviews and thought that perhaps this was going to be one of those "close your eyes and pretend you are in a five star restaurant" type of deals. Sigh.. I wish I would have taken a picture. I have no doubt the burritos came from a frozen plastic wrapped container meant for microwaving and the beans from a can. The taco was decent but by this point, I was mentally done. The one thing this place had going for it was our server. He was very polite and did a good job. If you read this sir, run to better employment, you would do well elsewhere. I really dont like leaving poor reviews as this but cant have another poor sap, as myself, dragging his children and wife in there only to have his wife look at him with disdain and children laughing it up. ;) PS - the chips and salsa were good, however, my 9 year old believes the water tasted funny.. :)

DO NOT COME HERE. It is awful. I worked in the service industry for 8 years and I have never felt more disrespected and hated. I was trying to do is place a to go order and the lady looked at me like I needed to hurry up because I was taking too long for her. She then added two tacos that were six dollars when I order the tacos that were two dollars so she added them and I didnt realize until she printed out the ticket and handed it to me so I tried to tell her no thats not what I wanted and she looked at me like I was stupid. she then just walked away because I guess I was taking too long and she had better things to do so that a man walked up and was asking me what I wanted to order I thought that he was trying to help me since she clearly couldnt he then proceeded to tell me when she walks back up that oh youve already ordered and I said I know but its not what I wanted I dont want to be charge $20 for two tacos so he said hes already in the kitchen making them. And took my debit card pretty much a right out of my hand and swiped it it was the worst experience Ive ever had in a restaurant in my whole entire life like I said I worked in the service industry for eight years I know how to be respectful. this was just the most ridiculous thing Ive ever come in contact with I will be trying to go to corporate to complain to get those employees fired because they clearly dont Care about their job. Will never eat at a moderate ever again and will tell all of my friends the same

Very lousy dining experience. Chips were hard and on the stale side. The salsa was one dimensional and far from fresh. Never have I know a Mexican restaurant to skip out on silantro in their salsa. My Food was brought out by someone who was not my sever but came quickly to the table and looked good ,but to my surpise turned out to be the worst dish I had ever ordered. My quesadilla verde was made with chicken that came from a can. The rice had no taste at all and the refried beans tasted only of salt. Neither my server nor anyone else ever visited again after taking my order to ask how my meal was or to see if I needed anything, but my sever and another repeatedly checked on the adjacent table which was seated about twenty minutes after myself. I hate to say it but I wouldnt recommend this place to anyone nor do I have any interest in going back. I see a struggling restaurant that cuts corners to try to cut costs, and an apathetic staff that has apparently already given up on the place.

Lets just say, I wont be going back here. 2 of my co-workers and I ordered lunch to go over the phone. We asked to place 3 (separate) orders. We each ordered something different. When I arrived and asked to pay for the orders separately, the cashier seemed frustrated that I would ask such a thing. Then he printed out three receipts, that were unreadable. (The cash register needed new ink.) When I asked which receipt was for which order, he couldnt tell me. Finally, when I got back to work with the food, there was no way of telling which order was which. All three orders were so covered with refried beans and cheese, they all looked the same. To be honest, whatever I ate was not bad, but the service has resulted in me leaving this review. Im sure that if you eat-in, you should have a better meal than I did. Good luck!

Experienced either racism or at the very least age discrimination yesterday in this restaurant and will NEVER go back. I wish there was a zero star on here. The guy at the check register purposely checked out two Hispanic young women although a white older gentleman was first and then I was next in line. We both tried to tell the guy and he ignored it - he wouldnt even look at us even though we were 2 feet away. The two Hispanic women laughed about it. All I can say is that Karma will return.

To start with, my waitress argued with me over substituting my enchilada "flavors" and told me I couldnt. She charged for things we asked for but never got. Then giggled when I corrected her for the over charging. Im usually a generous tipper but she got nothing today. I will never be back over here and i wont recommend either. Monterreys used to be my favorite. Not anymore. Very displeased!

Horrible service. Horrible food. Friend got food poisoning, coworker told me his waiter was "ready to fight him" for a misunderstanding, another friend found raw chicken in her food, prices are on the higher side. The list goes on. Go to the la festa down the road unless you want to be sick or want a fight with a side of watery salsa.

SHRIMP QUESADILLAS.... need I say more?? Theyre always cooked perfectly and everything on the menu is delicious. The people who work here are really nice and funny. What more could you ask for in a Mexican restaurant? Well they food comes out rapidly too... so I think that covers all aspects.
