My mother and I are huge fans of Mexican food and wanted to give a new restaurant a shot instead of our usual places. She found Azteca and wanted to give it a shot. One of the good things that I can say about it is that the atmosphere is fantastic and kind of reminds me of having lunch in Havana. The chips are what you would expect, and the Mexican-style coleslaw is satisfactory, but the salsa tasted like something that you would get out of a regular jar of Aldi-brand salsa. Once the waitress brought our drinks, I decided to order a chile relleno and a chicken enchilada. Instead, what I got was a plate that was 75% refried beans and Mexican rice, 25$ flour tortillas, COMPLETELY covered in cheese. I tend to be a healthy eater, so this was a letdown to begin with. Under normal circumstances there is pico de gallo, lettuce, perhaps some guacamole included in a Mexican style plate. I kid you not, the only thing that was not cheese-colored on my plate was a tablespoon of carrot-lettuce coleslaw that was put more as a garnish than anything. Upon attempting to taste the food, every bite was followed by wiping my mouth to get the cheese off of my face. The beans and rice were obviously generic and bought in bulk, and it seemed that the cheese was just your run-of-the-mill cheddar. After attempting to make the most of it, I only ate about half of my portion. I wanted to see what the chicken tasted like, without all of the cheese and tortilla. I had low expectations, and once I tried the chicken my expectations were fulfilled. Literally the taste reminded me of something that would be included in a chef boyardee can. If you are looking for a good Mexican restaurant, obviously these people either have a completely different taste than I do, or they went to a completely different restaurant. I would under no circumstances recommend this establishment to ANYONE. Especially anyone who tried to eat in a healthy manner.

Came this evening with my family for dinner (8 of us). They werent extremely "busy" but they had customers for sure. We were seated promptly and friendly by the hostess. We were provided menus and they left. They soon came back and took all the menus away prior to everyone ordering nor did they say anything. So we informed the waitress that we had yet to order and she said they needed them because they were short and had to provide other customers with them. Ooookkkkkk. We ordered. Took about 20 minutes which isnt bad. We had to remind for refills and missing tortillas BTW. As we are eating and the adults conversing the waitress takes the kids plates that were halfway eaten. Once we realize it, we tell the waitress we intended to take the leftovers home since their plates were merely nibbled on. She apologizes and the manager soon comes over. He asks us what the problem is and we inform him of what the circumstances. He tells us "its your responsibility to take care of your kids " EXCUSE ME?!? We quickly tell him, that yes but if an adult is conversing and the waitress sees this she should confirm PRIOR to removing any plates. He responds with "what do you want". To begin with we werent rude or yelling at the waitress nor to the manager but he has he worst attitude. The food was subpar at that. Waitress was sweet minus the reminders and the mix up. Manager was far from what a manager should be. We wont be back nor do I recommend any one else to go.

the Azteca near North Lake mall (same owner, i talked to her) is better imo. better parking, better servers, better layout. one thing all have in common, dirty restrooms that look like a drunk person caulked everything! as a former restaurant mgr, i judge a restaurant by the restrooms. if they dont keep that area clean which almost everyone sees, then how to they keep the back of the house clean where no one sees it?... how is the food? i never order off the menu so i dont know. i always, always get tacos carnitas (if i am saying correctly)... its 4 shredded pork tacos w/corn tortillas, cilantro, onions and mexican cheese with a small bowl of mexican whole beans (delicious) and a grilled green onion that is yummy. it is VERY satisfying meal and it goes down better with a grande negra modelo on draft. ive ordered that meal dozens of times. no cheese, no sour cream, no nasty mexican rice and no re-fried beans. because of that meal alone is the ONLY REASON i eat at Azteca. so basically i put up w/a so-so run restaurants to get the mexican food i love..

THE most horrible dining experience. The worst customer service. First, my friends did not like their drinks and asked could they exchange it for something else. They asked the manager and she said no, you ordered it so you cant get a different drink without paying. Fine. They sucked it up. Then, the food came out horribly. My order was wrong. I ordered Nachos with beef and they brought it out with chicken. My friends quesadilla came out awfully. Manager came out after we complained of food and told my dining companions that her problem was that she talked too much! What? Then brought out the menu (which they had 2 different ones) and asked if we pointed to the picture for the order. Saying we need to call the owner, but come to find out the manager, Maria, is one of the co-owners. Her wait staff could teach her something about customer service. If I could give this a less than a 1 star, I would. NEVER AGAIN

Most of their dishes have a disgusting cheap "canned food" taste. The dip sauce tasted like it was made from a cheap Italian pasta sauce available in supermarkets. Even Taco Bell may do better for probably 1/8th the price. The margaritas taste like tequila mixed with low-grade lemonade. The Aztec emperors (paintings on the walls) must be rolling in their graves. As someone from Texas and having lived in Mexico for 2 years, I must say "What an insult to Mexico!". Very bad even by Tex-Mex standards. Save your wallets and more importantly your guts and head elsewhere. However, the tableside "made fresh" guacamole is great, and the pico de gallo not bad. The waitresses and musicians are nice and fun.

To start off with the chips and salsa...as most mexican restaurants do...they provide good chips with that dual salsa stuff. The red tomato sauce and then vegitables that you can mix in to make it tolerable. Not my kind of salsa. The cheese dip was pretty amazing though. The beers were avg price but none on draft :( The margarita was great but pricy compared to what im used to. Food prices were average/high, flavor was on point, and portions were more than generous, left me and my wife saing "ugh.." Overall, the food was good, the atmosphere was good, but the salsa brings it down to a B for me. But then again, i like the standard mexican restaurant salsa.

Love this restaurant, staff is great but its attached to a run down Days Inn hotel. Not enough parking either. Overflow is around back in Days Inn parking lot. Its a little snug and crowded in certain areas of dining room. The bar booths are very large, and they recently redid parts of the bar and seating. There is outdoor seating area also. There is music playing but can be loud at times. The enchiladas are wonderful. Food and meat taste fresh. Plates are large but they do not carry ginger ale so no Crown/Ginger for this girl..boo.
