I had previously frequented Legume for their Date Night special that they host once/month (typically the first Wednesday). This used to be a reasonable deal, with an appetizer + entree + dessert + one beer or wine - for two - for just $50. Not only was it a great value, but there were many great options to choose from (3-4 appetizer choices, 3-4 entree choices, 3-4 dessert choices, 10+ beer/wine choices). More recently, the last Date Night I attended (6/1/16), I was disgruntled to find that patrons were now offered only 2 choices for appetizer, 2 choices for entree, 2 choices for dessert. Indeed, my date and I were able to order by saying "Well take one of everything". Not only were there fewer choices, but they were much, much different from the food were used to receiving at Legume. For instance, one entree turned out to be an embarrassingly tasteless rendition of chicken cacciatore, reminiscent of something out of a Betty Crocker box. Compounding the aforementioned issues, you no longer receive a glass of beer/wine with the Date Night special -- instead, you are now given 1-2 beer choices to choose from, at just $1 off of their normal price. That takes the cost from $50 up to $60+ if all you get is a single drink, each. A minor issue in light of the above, but we also ordered an additional appetizer from the main menu, expecting that we would be undersatiated. We asked if it could be brought out with our other appetizers, which we were assured was no problem. They never did arrive as such, in spite of the fact that we were one of maybe 3-4 tables left in the restaurant. When our entrees finally came, we had to ask about the appetizers whereabouts. We were assured it would be up in just a couple minutes, and our appetizer finally did arrive just moments before our desserts. I really wanted to like Legume, and they were starting to win me over for a little while, but with these recent changes to the Date Night specials and poor quality service at times, I cannot possibly justify spending $60+ to bring my significant other here. Simply put, there are much better places to spend your $60 if youre looking for a date night with some drinks. Shame...

I recently returned to Legume for the first time since around 2007, when I ate at the old location in Regent Square. The new space is much larger, and the restaurant has a significantly more upscale ambiance from what I remember. There is also now an attached bar area (called Butterjoint) which offers beers, wines and cocktails with your dinner. I believe the old place in Regent Square was BYOB, so that was a pleasant surprise. The wait staff were very friendly from the outset, and we promptly were served water and offered drinks. We ordered appetizers and entrees, and received fresh baguette that was still warm to eat while we waited. Someone was always by to refill our waters, and we were offered a refill on bread several times. We both had the gazpacho for a starter, which was delicious and served with a dollop of ricotta cheese in the center, and came with a toasted crostini. My entree was a chicken breast, which was wonderful and very juicy, which was served with crispy polenta, kale and beans. My wife had a crispy polenta entree that was served with greens and vegetables over it. I tried hers and it was delicious as well. Parking across the street was only $2 with valet service in the Sterling Plaza Garage. All in all, it was an excellent experience and we would love to return again sometime soon.

My hangar steak was absolutely phenomenal at Legume, while my boyfriends ravioli left a lot to be desired. Beet greens didnt mesh well at all with the dish, and the heavy full-fat ricotta made the dish overwhelming. The sauce was nonexistant. The price was also ridiculous for the ravioli - $21, while $25 for steak. The dishes seem hit or miss. The service is bizarre; seemingly 5 waiters for 12 tables, always hitting elbows. Its not like its a seven course meal; at most people were getting two courses. Our waiter awkwardly wiped our table off (a wonderful thing at Mallorca, but so awkward here) and then asked if we wanted dessert. Why not ask for dessert first, otherwise were just watching you wipe our table for the next person! Theres no separate vestibule/entrance, so the wind blowing in was a touch uncomfortable, and the outside temp was 70. Ill never go here in the fall or winter unless they change the design. Overall, Ill go back again - just not very soon - if only for the steak, and possibly the vegetarian tasting menu.

Great place! All of the vegetables were amazing, even the chickpea stew, which had enough spices and greens to be delicious, and the borscht and steak tartare were even better (the kitchen had run out but was able to make us a half-portion). That brings me to the service, which was excellent. Our server was incredibly fun and helpful with my food allergies, and an expert on the food. The wine list had a lot of great options, and the cocktail bar next door is a great place to hang out before or after dinner! My only quibble would be with the dessert--the pavlova was overbaked and far too sugary, making it very dry. Overall though, a great experience; well definitely return the next time were in Pittsburgh!

This place is slickly decorated and the menu looks great, but these items are massively overpriced for what they are. The duck was nothing special and tiny on the smallest wisp of a bed of grains. My daughter got the lamb and was exhausted by the time she finished attempting to extricate the small amount of meat hidden between the huge fat layer and the bone. For all of you who will think I just dont know "sophisticated" food, I can tell you we resided in France for 5 years where I learned how these dishes would have been executed in a fashion consistent with their price. Desserts were great, but by this point in the meal, I already had a bitter taste in my mouth.

Really appreciate all the effort they put into sourcing their food. It has made for memorable meals for my girlfriend and I every time we have been there. All dishes we have had here have been very well prepared from start to finish which is no small feat. And the staff really was very good at answering questions we had about where the food we were eating was coming from. Have yet to go to the new location and will surely miss the BYO wine policy at the previous spot but the expertise they demonstrated to us during our previous visits warrants another trip by us soon.

Although I found the food to be just...good. My then girlfriend however seemed to inhale it. The service and decor were above exceptional. I had asked them for several request in order to make my date really special and they went out of their way to help. Turned out to be a majestic evening for me -_^ . The food may have been a tad overpriced IMO, but for the service I am quite glad I selected this restaurant. Under the conditions I had to repeat the day through some time paradox, I would select the same restaurant for my date.
