My time with the Union Grill starts with me walking in of course and ordering my food. My first impression is the waitress, who was awfully sarcastic and rude. After ordering my meal I was told that my meal would take 20 minutes max, after waiting for 40 minutes I finally got my meal. I ordered the Chicken Tenders and French Fries with honey mustard dipping sauce. First let me say that on their menu they had both waffle fries and regular French fries listed. Me and my entire family ordered French fries and were all greeted with waffle fries, which by the way were awful. The fry outside was dry in your hand but when you put it in your mouth it stuck to your teeth like glue, as well as it just being an awfully cold fry. The chicken tenders were okay at best, they were the most tasteless tenders Ive ever had, and I truly feel bad for anyone trying to eat those without some kind of dipping sauce. Eating those tenders was like eating mushy cardboard surrounded by crums. Overall my experience with this place was awful, avoid it at all costs.

98% awesome. A cozy little bar and grill that caters more to college faculty than it does to college students. Though a younger crowd is part of the mix, this is not a "party bar". It can be crowded with moderate waits for dinner on weekend nights, but the list moves pretty well. The food is generally of very good quality and portions are large. Their $10 bottle of wine menu cannot be beat for value. Theres nothing kid unfriendly about this place, and I wouldnt hesitate to bring young ones along for a family dinner. This has been a go to spot for casual date nights and family dinners for at least ten years.

We are Union Grill regulars because it is convenient, presents you with equivalent value for money, has a 10$ wine bottle list, and offers The best Burger I had Ever (although I suggest you starve yourself for a few hours if youre hoping to finish your sandwich and fries). Also try their fresh bay salmon. The smores kit is fun especially after a couple glasses of wine, and you can always go to the frozen yoghurt place across the street afterwards if youre in bed of dessert. Decor is Pittsburgh-style heartwarming, weve always received friendly and helpful staff assistance.

My experience at the union grill was awesome. Our waiter was so sarcastic and she even forgot about our table several times! Part way through our dining experience our waiter thought it was too loud inside and closed the glass wall leaving us all alone on the street! This is a one of a kind dining experience that everyone has to experience at least once. We even had fire at our table. So if youre into that kind of thing and spending 2 and a half hours at a restaurant... this is the place for you!!

WOW! Not sure why ppl would talk this place down. We were so impressed with the place that we went back the next day and took another family that we had just met with us. The food was great and service was average. You ppl need to remember where this place is located. It is smack dab in the middle of a College town and borders two universities. Im sure we will return and enjoy the chicken wings and steak subs.

Im not sure who posted about horrible service and rude staff, but they couldnt be farther from the mark. Ive been getting lunches here for YEARS and have NEVER had a bad experience, as a matter of fact, I give their service top marks for friendlikess and efficiency. seriously, its a miracle that a place can be CONSISTENTLY THIS GOOD.

Consistently excellent food in a cozy environment. There is no dedicated parking on S. Craig St., but there is a lot of on-street parking, and the Carnegie Museum garage is across the street. It can get quite busy for the lunch and dinner rushes, especially when the weather is nice and the big windows are open to the sidewalk.

I like the atmosphere, the food is great, prices arent bad, but the last couple times Ive been their the wait staff has been PRETENTIOUS. Dont give me attitude, give me a refill! We could hear another table voice their discontent with the last same waitress as well. It reflects in your tip, please be courteous to the patrons!

If theres a better place around Pittsburgh to unwind with a few friends and a few beers, I havent found it yet. I love the ambiance, which somehow manages to make a small and always very packed dining area feel like home. Very good food served in huge portions at moderate price, with a solid and reasonably priced wine list.

Generally a great place to dine out. Would recommend the Union Fish, an entrée featuring their fried bread cod along with fries (you can change the side if you prefer, depending on the time of day). Good American food overall. Can be a bit loud since a decent number of people know about this place. Good for groups as well

Biggest hamburgers I have ever seen. They used to have delicious crab chowder, but I havent seen it on the specials in a long time. This is a great place for really BIG American/Pittsburghese food. Nice selection of drinks, as well. I wouldnt bother with the vegetable side(s) - they are almost always depressingly greasy.

I like the food there, and some of the deals are good, like the $10 bottle of wine and the smores for four. But their prices are pretty high and its weird to me to have to pay extra for toppings on a burger. Also waffle fries are not my favorite. There are plenty of other places on or near Craig Id go to before this one.

Union Grill is easily one of the best choices for a casual meal. The burgers are especially amazing, as are the fries that are included. The atmosphere is great and the waiters are friendly. On top of all that, for the quality and type of food the menu is relatively cheap. I highly recommend this to anybody in the area.

Fun place to get dinner near Carnegie Mellon. They have lots of great Pittsburgh specialties including the "Turkey Devonshire" An open faced turkey sandwich covered in mac and cheese sauce topped with what else? bacon! Delicious burgers and other entrees. A great 10 dollar wine list also!

Busy Little Place Serves Up Big Food Our lunch here was just excellent. Big flavor, big portions at reasonable prices. We arrived for a late lunch and the place hummed with activity at 3/4 full. A college student hangout, and now I know why. The Fish Taco is a wonder for favor and size.

Great place! Not really a college bar, or at least more filled by college faculties than student. Yummy salads, so glad that I tried all of them! Californian salad is absolutely the best, but the Pittsburgh one is also very tasty. Pretty decent beers selection as well

Its tight in there so it doesnt get a star for elbow room but if you want a great salad this is the place. The waffles fries that come on top are amazing. I got the Pittsburgh salad with grilled chicken. My friend got hers with steak. There wasnt a lot of talking.

Didnt expect it to be so good. Delicious crab, shrimp and salmon cake sandwich with their waffle fries (yum). Also took home a Greek Salad with a wonderful piece of salmon (they even took the skin off underneath-appreciate that). Great service, nice atmosphere
