We will NOT be buying our wedding cake from Piece of Cake Bakery. I was pretty appalled by their customer service. We arrived 15 minutes early for our 5pm consultation and tasting. A young woman behind the counter greeted us and politely informed us that the owner was in the back with another couple. She offered us to begin sampling or to have a drink of coffee or tea, to which we declined, wanting to wait for the consultation. We were happy to wait, given our early arrival. However, we wound up waiting 45 minutes, thats 30 minutes after our scheduled appointment time. At one point, about 25 minutes after our scheduled appointment, the young woman who greeted us pointed us out to the owner. She, and another employee made a big show about how they "didnt notice" us. They then asked us at least 3 separate times if we wanted coffee or tea, and seemed somewhat offended that we politely declined. The owner then told the second employee to get us set up tasting while she continued to work with the other couple. So, we stood up and walked into what is apparently their tasting room, but was a messy room with antique (i.e. falling apart) tables covered in deteriorating holiday decorations. The second employee followed us into the "tasting room" and then turned towards two women who were seated and already eating. She quickly realized they were not us, though we were standing right next to her. While we stood there, she asked us what cakes we would like to try. We informed her "everything without nuts or coconut," as I have allergies to these. She then asked another time "are you sure you dont want tea or coffee?" When we declined, she turned to walk away. I stopped her, and asked if we should sit at the large table covered with tool and art supplies, or at the dilapidated couch and broken apart coffee table. She implied we could sit "wherever." So, we sat at the couch, and waited another 5-10 minutes, listening to the owner continue to work with the other couple and making no acknowledgement for our presence. The second employee returned with a plate of cakes, and begins to announce what they are, pointing first to an almond cake with apparently no memory of my allergy. My fiance and I then eat our cakes in silence with no one to describe their services, prices, or how to arrange for pick up and drop off. We actually finished the entire plate of cakes before the owner finished up with the other couple. She then let us know she would be with us in a moment, and went to tend to other business before sitting down at a table with us. She wrote our information down on a white piece of paper with a sharpie. I showed her a picture of what I wanted (a cake that looks like a tree), and she got excited and went to get her own phone to show me pictures of something similar. She then showed me a picture of a yellow frosting cake with a cat on it. I tried to be polite, but I guess my flummoxed expression was fairly obvious, because she got rather offended and insisted she was just trying to show me a picture of how they can do cupcake tiers (though the picture was a sheet cake surrounded by cupcakes not on tiers). After talking about prices and how to cut costs, she was about to excuse us, and seemed bothered by me stating we had more flavors we would like to try. Then it took her another 5-10 minutes to gather the flavors I had requested. She brought them to us, and left us alone while we ate. When she returned she arrogantly announced "I knew youd love them!" and then gave us one word answers when we asked if we could replace a chocolate filling with peanut butter on one of the cake. When we were all said and done, she pretty much rushed us out the door. The cakes were edible. Nothing too special, but definitely not worth all the fuss. Well be going somewhere else.

We went to Piece of Cake in Sellwood I guess this is what we got: Chocolate Raspberry Buttercream Ganache Layers of chocolate cake filled with raspberry, iced in buttercream & topped with dripping ganache. We gave the bakery a C- It was very cute inside, you can see the whole kitchen, but the only things that had labels were the cupcakes. So we had to ask about each cake... which was difficult because the woman there had an accent and talked SUPER soft. I literally leaned into her and had her repeat herself, even with no accent I would have had to have her repeat herself. She gave us a menu but there are no pictures... so it was very hard to decide, and they kept the cut cakes out of sight, so you couldnt even get an idea from looking at them. It kind of killed the experience. She also didnt ask if we were eating there or taking it, she just put it in a to-go box... so we brought it back and ate it. We didnt even see what it looked like til we got back! We both agreed if we saw the cakes inside neither one of us would have decided to get it, a very unexciting looking cake. The cake itself got a C It was ok tasting but super boring. The raspberry flavor was too faint. So I dont know that we will go back again just because the way its set up was too difficult to be visually stimulated. (Which is how I pick what I want!) This was very disappointing cause I always pass this place and was very excited to finally try it... WOMP WOMP...

I am the employee of Piece of Cake Bakery who is responsible for the bakery not being open Saturday morning. No excuse can be made... it was an unintentional mistake and I feel horribly about it. The Piece of Cake team tried our best to remedy the situation, which was a real mess. No one felt worse though than my boss, the owner, Marilyn. She was so upset that we had upset our customers days, party plans, and celebrations, and was willing to do anything to remedy the situation. This was the top priority, to try to reach each customer and do our best to make repairs. We LOVE our customers! We delivered cakes, gave away cake, and reimbursements. The most amazing part of the day were receiving the understanding support of customers who had to come back twice to get their cakes and were truly concerned of our well-being as they know that the bakery is consistantly open often beyond our listed hours. We sell slices at midnight after the register has been closed for an hour if we see someone peeking through the door. I know that this applogy does not change your daughters birthday, Jeremy, and I cant applogize enough. We are in the business of making peoples days better and I totally screwed up yesterday. Please consider that my mistake does not represent the values or history of Piece of Cake and if possibly you decide to come back in the future we will continually try to regain your confidence. Sincerely, Lauren Saturday decorator

How can a bakery claim to serve VEGAN items when they are NOT VEGAN AT ALL?!?! My wife and I ordered a vegan cake (so we thought!) and when my wife asked how this cake, filling and icing were vegan, the very unknowledgeable baker said..." Im not sure"- then she proceeded to ask the other baker" girl, who was extremely rude btw! and she responded "I dont know!" My wife then asked what type of sugar they use in their vegan cakes and one girl held up a bag of granulated sugar. NOT VEGAN!! next was the clincher of this bakery misrepresenting themselves as a bakery that serves vegan baked goods... the filling that they use in their "vegan" cakes has a list a mile long of NON VEGAN ingredients! My wife read this list while the girl was holding this big plastic container of animal filled ingredients! #gross #wrong #deceitful!!! The girl called her boss/owner and my wife talked to her and asked her why they are using animal ingredients in a so called vegan cakes? The owner, frustratingly replied: just order a cake without filling or icing! REALLY?! Caio! A Piece Of Cake! Needless to say, we will never waste our precious time or money on people who run a business based on lies and deceit! People who eat vegan for many reasons, and who are willing to shop local. We are true Portlanders, and we are always happy to shop local!!
