I had heard good things about this bakery and had wanted to order a gluten free cake for a surprise party for my wife. It was a disappointing experience. I first went to their website to look at what they had to offer. The website did not have a menu so I called and asked if they could email me one. The person I talked to said that they didnt do that and that there was a menu on the website. I went back to the website but still couldnt find one. They were closed by this point so I had to wait until the next day to call back. I called and the person I spoke to said that the could email me a menu. She emailed me the menu at 10:17am and when I called back and Noon to place the order, she said that they had stopped all orders for the day I needed the cake. I asked her if she could accommodate one more cake and she indicated that her employees wouldnt be able to go home if they had one more order for a special birthday. This is so unfortunate to not accommodate a potential customer and its rather shocking considering its Portland.

Great variety here, of breads, baked sweets and savory meal options. Service was less than okay, we had a cashier who was doing her first day working the weekend brunch. She didnt seem to know what was for sale and admitted it. Awkward. A couple who ordered toasted bagels with lox waited 45 minutes for their food to be delivered and their order was wrong. (I was done eating when they got their food.) Cakes were moist and delicious. The doughnut is baked only, not fried and therefore not a true donut in my opinion. It crumbled like sand and was very dry. The daily special was mushroom gravy smothered biscuits. Biscuits were good. Gravy had a metallic taste to me. If I go again, Id only get cake and try a bread. Im celiac so Id return. Overall though, quite disappointing in taste. Very cute shop.

Delicious pastries and breakfast foods. Their coffee is good and the staff are very friendly and helpful if you cant decide which foods to try on your visit. There is limited seating inside however there is a pretty large table right in the middle of the dining room in case you have a larger group and it is available. Parking isnt a problem as the location is far enough away from the inner SE food and entertainment zone. Ive worked here with my laptop, the WiFi speed is sufficient and I had no problem connecting to my remote desktop via VPN. Another nice option is the day-old offerings that they have for sale, you can get great deals on their yummy food if you dont care about it being same-day fresh.

Wow, what a super bakery! Im not gluten-free for the fad of it, but have had a serious intolerance for about nine years. I can remember when the first gluten-free breads hit the grocery shelves. Cardboard was tastier. The offerings have been much improved in recent years, but New Cascadia is right off the charts. Ive had several loaves of their bread in different styles/flavors, with Challa being my favorite. No wait, maybe its the baguette. Or was it the Raisin-Cinnamon? I guess you cant go wrong, which is why New Cascadia is simply wonderful for Portland!

My boyfriend and I tracked this place down last Saturday. We live in Vancouver so it was quite an adventure. There was a line but it moved fast. It was great being in a place where I didnt have to be careful what I was ordering! The brownies are to die for as are the carrot cake cupcakes. I didnt much care for the bread, I am so used to what I ate before. But I do plan to try the other sandwich bread they offer just to see. There were three people behind the counter and they were all quite friendly. Will be back!

Oh my goodness gracious!!! This place is The Bees Knees!!! As a recent-ish addition to the Gluten-free community, I have to admit that I miss the taste of gluten-full breads and treats more than anything on the planet!! At New Cascadia, I cannot tell the difference, and I feel like a real person again. It is SO hard to go anywhere with such an allergy/sensitivity, so I am especially grateful to this place for making my world whole from time to time. Thank you, New Cascadia! I love you to death!!!

I LOVE their chocolate chip cookies. They are super delicious, rich, and addictive. Perfect on a cold day with a friend and some coffee. I regularly buy their bread (although I think its a little too thick for sandwiches, so I cut it thin and freeze it that way). I also tried a cupcake, which I believe was vanilla/plain, and it was AWFUL. The frosting tasted like lard. So be careful BUT I will be going back to try other cupcakes. I believe in this place and they deserve some love and feedback!!

Totally gluten free. Coffee is great. Tea, too. Love having lunch here, 11 am to 4 pm. Pizza, sandwiches, salads and soup. Buy bread here, sandwich rolls and biscuits. Did I say cupcakes? Yum. Cookies, too. Love all the people. Impossible to say enough good. Its wonderful that the owners chose Portland to settle and make a great bakery service gluten free. One owner is celiac so its imperative for him. Our gain. I found them in 2008. Happy ever since. Thanks for starting your great business!

I was staying in Ladds Addition in Portland and found this place with an online search for gluten free. OH MY!! A bakery that is 100% gluten free?? It blew my mind. The first day there me and my fiancee had bagels, cookies, and brownies! The next morning we went back for more and bought a loaf of bread to take with us on the next leg of our camping excursion. I cant say enough about the staff, food, and options at this place. If youre gluten free and in or near Portland LOOK IT UP!!

Ambrosial om nom noms for the GF crowd Youll forget you are GF for at least a meal. Fluffy, flaky pastries, soft bouncy bread, actually bagels not some round GF bread puck, I heard they have doughnuts on Sundays. The lunch menu is varied for the vegan and omnivore alike. This feels like blasphemy but I have to say this place has replaced the Sweet Pea in my heart. Hopefully Im not struck down by a bolt of lightning after writing this review.

Not only does everything taste amazing (bread, rolls, bagels, sweet treats, espresso drinks), but the people behind the counter are some of the most genuine and nicest people Ive encountered. I used to only be able to get their goodies from New Seasons, but now I drive right by the shop on my way to work. Hands down the only upside to driving downtown every day.
